Void Cultivation

Chapter 73- Mystery (2)

After getting the records he needed, Grey promptly went to the Detective agency department and read it in his office. The records were sent directly to his jade slip so there was no need for him to carry bulky documents and files.

The information on the Devil was quite long and bulky, so Grey decided to start from the beginning.

The Devil race was once an uprising race that made it's appearance only a few years after God descended.

In terms of appearance, the Devil race looked very similar to humans. The only differences was the slightly dark skin and protruding horns on their foreheads, but other than that, they greatly resembled humans.

When they first made their appearance, the Devil race brought apprehension to the hearts of all inhuman races. After all, they had been traumatized by humans for centuries. If a new race similar to humans arose then what happened in the first and second continent would repeat itself. The nonhumans races began to think of how they would cope.

But surprisingly, the Devil race had a strange hatred for humans. Their hatred ran so deep that they would kill humans on sight. Humanity would obviously not take it lying low from an upcoming race, so war began between the two races.

The Devil race were no match initially for humans, but that was until they developed a certain cultivation method that made their cultivation soar instantly.

This new method involved butchering humans and using their bodies as a furnace while refining their souls. Most times their intestines would be cleared out to add certain herbs and pills.

If a Devil race cultivator cultivated with this fiendish method, their cultivation base would break through to the next level easily with only few pauses.

The Devil race later called this art, the Devil refinement art. In rage, the nine emperors of the human race launched an all out war on the Devil race. They even brought with them humanity's flag and the statue of the Human emperor.

Bringing with them fury and murderous intent, the Devil race were almost completely wiped out until they were hidden and saved by the nearby nonhuman races.

In anger, humanity began to quickly conquer more ground and expanded their growing empire. That era was called the Burning era, because countless races were wiped out in the process. Many races nearly went extinct under the nine emperor's tyrannical conquest.

This era lasted for five decades until the first appearance of the Divine bizarre existence that humanity struggled against and later lost to.

As Grey read, he grew more and more intrigued. This Devil race contained a lot about ancient history which he obviously didn't know about. But in anticipation, he continued reading.

After the fall of the Nine emperors, the nonhuman races suggested an alliance of all races. There, the Devil race made their appearance again under the Bull dragon race. Of course, humans would not agree to this but after going through a lot and all their emperor level forces either missing or dead, they had no other choice.

In secret, the Devil Race would still use that fiendish cultivation method on humans but when found out, many from the Devil race would die. So the alliance suggested that both races interacted less with the other and not even going to the others major cities. Grudgingly, both sides agreed and there was peace for the time being.

Many of Humanity's cities proclaimed a ban on the Devil race and the devil race did the same. This had been going on for quite some time and "secretly", some humans would die due to being used as furnaces for the Devil race's cruel cultivation art.

And the human race would also secretly retaliate and some cities belonging to the Devil race would seemingly "disappear" or be "wiped" off the face of the continent.

"It seems like the feud between Humans and the Devil's race was far deeper than I thought! It runs so deep that they placed bans over the other in each cities."

When Grey read he felt was enough, he closed his eyes to think. The information in the Jade slip was too much that he couldn't read it all in one day. The least he could do was skim through it and read some very important information. He could read the rest at a later time. But just reading a small portion was enough to give him a detailed brief of the Devil's race. Of course as he read deeper, he would learn more important information and their weaknesses. Like major cities that had been destroyed by humans or rituals and activities that the Devils race participated in. Information like this would be very helpful to his investigation.

"It is obvious that the murder cases is the work of a cultivator from the Devils race. But is there really a motive? If it's just homicide then I don't think there's any mysteries involved. At most, it's just a blood long hate for each other." Grey muttered.

"But I cannot rule out the fact that murder is murder! In the end it's still homicide, and as a law enforcer of Sky Mist city it is my duty to apprehend the criminal."

"If it really is a Devil race cultivator, then his level of cultivation must be low... The jade slip mentioned that regular Qi accumulation cultivators of the Devil's race needed normal humans or Qi accumulation humans to start cultivating. But if you entered the Foundation establishment realm, then you would have to use Foundation Establishment level cultivators instead."

The Devil race seem very cruel and wicked, but Grey had not read any substantial information about what humans did after that. The Jade slip only recorded there being a blood bath, or major cities suddenly disappearing.

From this observation, he learned that humans didn't make unnecessary noise. But they struck with even more deadly precision and lethality than the Devil race expected. Their decisiveness and outright cruel retaliation was enough to make the Devil race stop it's attack for a while, seemingly afraid of extinction.

'The human race really is amazing... If only the Human Emperor did not leave the second continent! If only the Nine Emperors did not die, then the entire human race would not have needed to flee and hide in the face of God.' Grey gave a low sigh. His gaze turned distant before determination suddenly showed forth.

"But in the end, it's all about strength! If the Human Emperor was strong enough, he would not have left. If the Nine subordinate Emperors were strong enough, they would not have died. If the Human race was strong enough, we would not have fled the first continent and by now the second continent would have been conquered. In the end, only strength matters!" After saying those words, Grey felt as if his view of this world had changed. He felt as if his eyes had suddenly been opened. His formerly distant expression turned cold and indifferent.

His body exuded a icy chill at that moment as the Sky Mist art circulated on it's own. A small white mist floated out of his mouth and hung in the air for a few seconds. That small white mist let out a simily cold chill that came out from Grey's body. The temperature dropped by a few degrees as well. A fire of desire could be seen burning in Grey's eyes at the moment. An intense desire to be strong.

Later that day, Grey walked into the main hall of the Detective agency and asked the fierce looking lady in charge of wanted mission distribution.

"Has there been any reports or sightings of a Devil race cultivator lately?" Grey asked the lady. Her former cold expression turned to one of bafflement and disbelief.

It was obvious she knew the long history between humans and the Devil's race. "Please wait just a moment!" She said and briskly went to the storage room.

When she came back, there was a file in her hand. Grey noticed that she was using files instead of checking the information on her Jade slip.

'This must be because they don't put all their trust in spirit technology, in the end it could still fail them! So keeping such records would be best.' Greg deduced inwardly. The fierce looking lady handed him the file after confirming it was the one he needed. Without a second thought or glance, she left Grey in the record room to read.

The single file recorded the sighting of a Devil's race member here in Sky Mist city by a cultivator from the fifth sequence. According to "him", he went out to buy pills when he saw someone who had slightly dark skin and two protrusions on the top of his head.

When the cultivator tried to find the so call Devil's race cultivator, he simply vanished. In the end, he made a conclusion that it wasn't the Devil's race cultivator that he had seen. After all, there were many races in the second Continent and many of them lived in Sky Mist city. He could have just seen someone who looked similar.

But Grey was not so sure, he checked the date and found that it dated two months back! The area where the Devil's race cultivator had been seen was a housing distruct.

In places like these, inns, casinos and other sorts could be found. These places were also known to be shady, with different races coming together for a gathering to obtain items that Sky Mist city would rather ban.

But because they were nonhuman races and the items were not too overly important, neither was the ban emplaced on them too strict, Sky Mist turned a blind eye.

'It seems like it has become a housing unit for nuisance instead!' Grey took note of the area and left soon after for an investigation.
