Over a dark sea, a giant turtle statue sped away from an island. It flew with its body upside down, and people were congregated on the center of its belly. Some were whimpering, others whispered soft words of reassurance, and many talked about how Liu Xing could reattach their limbs as soon as they were safe.
Liu Xing himself was busy tearing his ripped clothes to create makeshift bandages. He was currently tending to a girl named Ji Yunsu, the one who had told him the story of a greedy merchant in her hometown. She wore a yellow dress, the bottom half of which was now coated in her blood. Her face was pale, and large beads of sweat covered her forehead. As Liu Xing tied the makeshift bandage tightly around her right foot, she bit down on her own clothes, stifling a scream. When Liu Xing was done, he nodded. "My qi is still constricting your wounds, but this makeshift bandage will help."
"Thank you," she whispered between painful gasps.
Liu Xing moved quickly from person to person. He smiled and promised each one that this was merely temporary. He told them that when they arrived at a safe spot—ideally an uninhabited island—he would try to heal them and reattach their limbs. By this point, not only had his friends begun to believe his words, but he himself was also starting to believe them. After all, in this grim situation, he had actually found a clue on how to do it.
"Please rest," Liu Xing said to a woman named Bai Xinya.
She nodded at him and then closed her eyes. Her chest rose and fell harshly, tears forming at the corners of her eyes. She grimaced, as if experiencing unfathomable pain but still trying to hold her emotions in check.
Soon, he had finished bandaging all of his friends, with Qing Yuan as the sole exception.
Liu Xing jogged toward Qing Yuan while controlling his qi to gather all of his friends' severed limbs in a neat row. He currently has five Eyes of Lightning active. Three were circling his stone turtle, one was situated behind them, its point of view focused on the island they had left, monitoring the fight still raging there. The last one hovered above the group, monitoring the condition of his friends and enabling him to perform multiple tasks at once, such as sorting the bloody limbs using his qi. As he focused his eye on severed feet, he gritted his teeth and clenched his fists, but he took a deep breath and reined himself in.
Qing Yuan was lying quite far away from the main group. The wound in his stomach was severe, and even when Liu Xing pressed it with his qi, he could not stop the bleeding as effectively as he had with the others. When he arrived in front of Qing Yuan, he knelt and observed his condition. Qing Yuan was in a delirious state, drifting in and out of consciousness. His breathing was rough, and several times, blood pooled in his mouth, gurgling as he raised his hands to ask about his mother. Among all the wounded, his condition was the most critical, yet he also had the best chance to live. Ambient qi was swirling around him, creating an invisible tornado that poured into the wound in his stomach. Liu Xing could see the stab wound regenerating, though its speed was as slow as a crawling slug. The first time he saw this, he was surprised beyond belief, but then he remembered that Qing Yuan had been physically abused by his mother. It seemed this was not the first time the ambient qi had tried to heal him.
When Qing Yuan realized that Liu Xing was kneeling by his side, he said through half-lidded eyes, "Liu Xing, we need to go back. My mother… my mother is not here."
Liu Xing grimaced, ashamed that he had indeed left Qing Lian on the island. But they could not go back. Earlier, in an attempt to reassure his friend, he had said that as long as he was here, they were safe. He had boasted that even if there were a hundred demonic cultivators, he could defeat them all. This was only half the truth. While it was true that he could defeat them—as long as their realms were not too high and he successfully killed one with his gun—fighting while protecting everyone around him would be difficult. He would likely be surrounded, and a single lapse would mean the end. Distancing themselves from the demonic cultivators was the most logical thing to do, even if it meant leaving Qing Lian behind. The only solace he had was the fact that Tide Walker was also still on the island, and he hoped his shark could protect Qing Yuan's mother. However, he could not say something so logical to Qing Yuan right now. His condition was too pitiful. Instead, Liu Xing nodded. "Yes, we will go back and pick up your mother. Right now, you need to channel all your focus to the ambient qi and concentrate on healing yourself."
Qing Yuan smiled brightly. "Thank you," he said, as if he truly believed Liu Xing's words, which made Liu Xing feel like a scumbag. "I'll try, but this is the biggest wound I've ever had in my life. I… I don't know if I can survive."

"You will survive," Liu Xing said resolutely. "I'll make sure of it."
Qing Yuan closed his eyes, and in that instant, the qi around him began to swirl slightly faster. His wound closed at a slightly greater speed. Seeing this, Liu Xing pinched his chin, trying to discern what the ambient qi was doing, hoping to replicate the feat himself.
This was the only light in his current situation.
With his eyes wide open and his qi sense focused on the area around Qing Yuan's wound, he tried to decipher what the ambient qi was doing. He had no hope of replicating it with his own qi, since his already leaned toward lightning. However, he had potent qi, and he was sure it was special and perhaps also had healing properties. He just needed to understand what the ambient qi targeted, and what it nudged to heal Qing Yuan. But therein lies the problem. Even as Liu Xing looked straight at the wound and saw the flesh regenerating into raw, red tissue, he hadn't the slightest idea how the ambient qi did it. It was as if the qi was simply pouring itself into Qing Yuan's flesh, and then the flesh grew on its own. But there was no way in hell that was what was actually happening. Solely targeting the growth of flesh would only make it grow uncontrollably, like a tumor, so he was sure there was also an aspect of control about this whole process.
Control. That was the crux of it.
Each speck of ambient qi felt as if it had its own consciousness. It behaved as if it were alive, and each dot of qi must have been targeting a specific part with precise control. Perhaps some qi targeted only muscle, while others promoted the growth of veins, tissue between organs, the innards, the bone, and more. The more he looked and digested the process, the more Liu Xing realized he had no hope of replicating this feat. Attempting it would be akin to controlling millions of Eyes of Lightning at the same time.
Liu Xing bit his thumbnail. "There must be something I can do," he muttered.
Cultivators who focused on healing existed, so there had to be some trick to it. However, he had no knowledge of it, nor did he have time to learn by manually attempting to replicate what the ambient qi was doing.
As the flesh around Qing Yuan's stomach and his innards healed slowly, Liu Xing's mind raced to search for another idea.
"There must be a way to use this ambient qi," he muttered under his breath. "If I can't replicate it, then perhaps I need to focus on something else, like…" He blinked several times as an idea struck him. "Like helping the ambient qi heal Qing Yuan!"
His heart began to beat faster with a surge of excitement. It was a good idea. Since he could not replicate its feat, perhaps he could mix in his own potent qi and hasten the process. However, he soon realized this could only be applied to Qing Yuan. After all, the qi was only interested in helping him and no one else.
"But, can't Qing Yuan control the ambient qi?" he pinched his chin.
Qing Yuan was indeed capable of controlling it. It was the reason he could float and talk even when he was still in his baby form. So, in theory, if the ambient qi successfully healed Qing Yuan and he regained consciousness, he could heal other people and perhaps reattach their limbs, too. Then, as if that single idea had opened a floodgate, he had another, riskier one.
The Blood Pills, as well as his healing pills, could not be used to heal mortals. The simplified reason was that the energy within the pills was too violent to be digested by them. Cultivators combated this violent energy with their own qi, something mortals could not do. However, what if a mortal had qi inside their body to combat the violent energy? Wouldn't that mean they could consume cultivators' pills?
Liu Xing's heart began to beat with excitement, but he tried to rein in his emotions. While he was a cultivator, he was no doctor or healer. Perhaps there was something that prevented this obvious solution. Perhaps the idea of sending ambient qi into a mortal to combat the pill's energy was a dead end, but he wouldn't know if he didn't try. Then, as if his mind were in true overdrive, he had another realization. "I don't need to use ambient qi to do it," he muttered, pinching his chin. "I can send my potent qi directly into their bodies."
He had done this in the Twelve Sun Empire. When he was fighting Wei Yi, he had sent his potent qi into Yang Suyin, and he had been able to use it easily. This was because while people normally couldn't accept foreign qi into their bodies, his potent qi was special. Who knew? Perhaps it could be accepted by mortals, too. The healing pills he had gotten from Yang Suyin were enough for thirty people, and as far as he remembered, their function was to heal internal injuries. However, with his potent qi, perhaps—just perhaps—they could reattach severed limbs, too. After all, the cuts were still fresh.
"I need to try this," Liu Xing nodded. Better yet, he thought, perhaps he could combine three methods of using not only his potent qi and the pills, but also the ambient qi that surrounded Qing Yuan.
He looked at Qing Yuan and bit his lip. Then, in a soft voice, he said, "Qing Yuan, are you awake?"
Qing Yuan slowly opened his eyes. "Yes. What's the matter? Is it time to pick up my mother?"
"Just a little bit more," Liu Xing said, then continued, "Qing Yuan, I need to try something on you. If this succeeds, you'll heal faster. But it's also risky. Can I…" he inhaled deeply, "can I try it on you?"
