"Qing Yuan, I need to try something on you. If this succeeds, you'll heal faster. But it's also risky. Can I…" he inhaled deeply, "can I try it on you?"
Qing Yuan smiled at him. "Sure, I believe in you." He said it so lightly that Liu Xing felt like he was swindling a naive and innocent child.
Liu Xing clenched his jaw for a moment before he nodded and grabbed a single pill from his spatial bag and summoned his gun to his left hand. Holding the gun, feeling its weight, made Liu Xing feel calmer, as if it were an anchor that wouldn't let his heart be pushed away by the waves of uncertainty.
"I need you to cooperate with the qi around you," he said slowly to Qing Yuan. "I want it to use this to help you." He brought the pill toward Qing Yuan's mouth. It was the size of a marble, its color a muddy brown. However, within it contained healing properties that would surely help Qing Yuan heal faster.
The boy saw the pill and instantly opened his mouth. But Liu Xing's hand hovered there for a moment, his heart hesitating. What if it didn't work? What if instead of healing him, the pill made his body explode into a bloody pile? He knew the ambient qi wouldn't let something like that happen to Qing Yuan, but he also had to remember that Qing Yuan was no ordinary human either.
In the end, he pulled his hand back. He had been too hasty. He needed to start slowly. Instead of using the pill right away, he would experiment with his potent qi first.
"What happened?" Qing Yuan asked, his eyes unfocused and his voice slurring. The ambient qi must have been doing something strange to him. He looked drugged, but perhaps it was just the qi's way of numbing his pain.
"Ah, nothing. I forgot there's something I need to do first," he said, then sent some of his qi toward the gun. The gun converted it into bullets, and he pulled them back into his body, willing them to cycle along his qi paths like normal qi. Before jumping straight to the pill, he needed to test whether his potent qi could help the ambient qi close Qing Yuan's wound.
Pointing his index finger toward the boy's stomach, Liu Xing exhaled deeply as he projected his potent qi from his fingertip. He released it slowly, closing his eyes as he tried to control it and guiding it to mingle and spread within the ambient qi. At first, his qi and the ambient qi felt like two separate rivers moving parallel to each other, each with a different speed and flow. It was as if the two types of qi were unaware of each other and each doing its own thing. However, as he continued to sync his potent qi's movement with the ambient qi, he felt it begin to be pulled by the current. At first, it was merely a tug, but after a while, his qi was finally drawn into the river of ambient qi as it swirled around Qing Yuan.
Opening his eyes, he intended to focus on how this mixed qi would close the wound. Instead, he saw that all around him, the ambient qi was glittering with white and blue light, creating a small tornado made of twinkling stars. It was beautiful, and his hope suddenly shot through the roof. Something so beautiful and synchronized like this had to be special. With a heart full of excitement, he observed the boy's wound. Just then, the ambient qi mixed with his potent qi finally touched the injury. The flesh around Qing Yuan's wound began to grow faster. Before, it had moved as slowly and lazily as a slug; now, it was fast. A surge of happiness came to Liu Xing's heart. His little experiment had succeeded. With this, Qing Yuan would heal faster, and he hoped this process could be applied to heal and reattach limbs, too.
With bated breath, he waited for the process to be over. Since he had only sent a limited amount of potent qi, it was depleted quickly, and the twinkling faded within a minute. He let out another stream of potent qi, synced it with the ambient qi, and then watched as Qing Yuan's wound closed, the organs and intestines inside regenerating, veins connecting, and the skin growing fast. After two minutes, which felt like both a long and a short time, the stab wound on Qing Yuan's stomach finally closed. His stomach was now covered in raw, pink skin that would send a jolt of pain through Qing Yuan if Liu Xing touched it.
When he saw the closed wound, he felt such a strong sense of relief that he thought he might cry. Their situation had suddenly improved. The number of people in their group who were not wounded had just doubled. Before, he was the only one; now, there were two. He no longer had to worry that Qing Yuan would die from blood loss. Moreover, this boy was key to healing his other friends. Although the situation was still grim, it was as if a guiding light had appeared to lead them out of the darkness of despair.
Through one of his Eyes of Lightning, Liu Xing saw several people in a position to see him and Qing Yuan begin to smile. Their eyes twinkled as if their prayers were being answered. Soon, whispers began to spread, and Liu Xing clenched his fists in excitement, as if he were about to punch the air.

The qi surrounding Qing Yuan began to disperse, but he sensed its departure with contentment, as if a team of doctors had emerged from a triumphant, nearly impossible surgery. Some of the qi even caressed his cheek, its touch soft, conveying happiness, as if he had been acknowledged by the ambient qi itself.
Soon, Qing Yuan's eyelids began to flutter.. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his right hand, as if waking from a deep sleep. When Qing Yuan opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Liu Xing. After blinking several times, he looked down at his stomach, where a pink, almost circular patch of new skin covered the center.
"I… I'm alive," Qing Yuan stated simply, his eyes still focused on his stomach. "I'm alive," he muttered once again.
Liu Xing nodded. "Your wound is healed, thanks to the ambient qi that's always protecting you. Usually, I would let you rest more. While the wound is closed, I bet it's still raw and hurting. But I need you to help me heal the others," he said, looking over his shoulder and sweeping his eyes across the hopeful faces. "Will you help me, Qing Yuan?"
Qing Yuan looked at Liu Xing, then turned his head toward all the people with severed limbs. His eyes widened, and he closed them for a moment, as if trying to accept the reality that the nightmare on the beach—where he was stabbed and the others were maimed—had truly happened. Then, slowly, he looked toward the distant island where Water Tower City stood, where he had spent his whole life, and where his mother still was.
Liu Xing grimaced. Qing Yuan was in a normal state now, one where he could think and reason clearly. This meant he must have remembered what he had said in his delirious state, as well as Liu Xing's response—that he would eventually go back to save his mother. He must now know it was a lie. However, instead of lashing out, getting angry, or showing the slightest bit of emotion, Qing Yuan simply nodded. "I understand our situation." He scanned Fang Ruxue, Su Nian, Su Meilin, and the others, then looked at the neat row of severed limbs, and once again nodded. "I truly understand."
Liu Xing opened his mouth. "Qing Yuan, I—"
"No need to explain, Liu Xing. I understand." He smiled at him, a polite and warm smile that Liu Xing felt he didn't deserve to receive. "More importantly, you said you need my help, right? I assume it's to help you mend their wounds?"
Liu Xing opened his mouth again, wanting to explain his logic and the reason he had decided to leave the island. In the end, he chose to close it. This boy was smart. He truly understood the logic behind his actions and accepted it as the best thing to do. Still, even though the boy understood and accepted it, that didn't mean he was happy about it. Deep in his heart, Liu Xing knew that this boy truly wanted his mother to be safe. In the end, while he felt guilty, he just nodded and didn't address Qing Yuan's feelings. Instead, he focused on the question. "Yes, I need your help to mend their wounds and try to reattach their limbs."
"Then, let's start. What do I need to do?"
Liu Xing began to explain what had happened with the ambient qi, how he had mixed his potent qi with it, and also told him about his idea of using pills to accelerate the healing, though he admitted he still hadn't experimented with that part.
"I see, so it's like that." Qing Yuan pinched his chin as he floated in the air on a cushion of ambient qi. "In short, you want me to ask the ambient qi to help them, and then you will help the ambient qi?"
"That's basically it," he nodded. "Can you do it?"
"I can," he nodded. "In fact, I've actually done something like this in the past. Once, I found an injured bird with a broken bone in one of its wings. A cruel kid had thrown a stone at it. After I treated it, it could fly again. Another time, my mother—" He stopped himself, looked down to calm himself, and then looked up at Liu Xing again. "As I said, I've done it before, though not for injuries this huge. I've never reattached limbs."
Liu Xing ignored the fact that he tried not to mention his mother and focused on the later part. "Alright. Then let's do it."
They both moved toward the person nearest to them. Her name was Lin Zhuyu. Her hair was dark with a beautiful shade of green. When they reached her, she tried to push herself up, but Liu Xing reassured her and helped her lie down comfortably again. As far as he could remember, he had never spoken with her directly. However, he had noticed that Lin Zhuyu sometimes helped Fang Ruxue with her tasks, whether managing the camp or combing her hair. When people talked, she was usually in the back, listening, and would sometimes laugh quietly.
"Lin Zhuyu," Liu Xing began. At the same time, he looked toward the neat row of severed limbs, picked up her foot with his qi, and brought it to her side. "Right now, Qing Yuan and I are going to try to heal and reattach your limb. Is that okay? Are you willing?"
"Yes," she said resolutely.
Liu Xing looked at Qing Yuan. Qing Yuan looked back at him, and they both nodded. Qing Yuan began to gather ambient qi around her, while Liu Xing sent some of his own qi to his gun and then reabsorbed it into his body. "Alright, let's begin."
Far in the distance, the battle between the Nether Lotus Sect and the spirit beasts was beginning to end.
