Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons

Chapter 279: No Way

After Kane and his companions eliminated the two soldiers blocking their path, they quickly dashed outside.

Hoofbeats were close behind them, almost within arm's reach—if they didn't speed up, they'd lose their chance.

An arrow flying at lightning speed grazed Kane's fur, striking the ground ahead.

Kane, transforming back into his wolf form, had already exhausted his magic power.

This meant that in this battle, he had one more chance to change back into human form, but no more magic power to shift into the shape of a giant wolf.

Each transformation from human to wolf consumed magic power, whereas reverting from wolf back to human did not.

Dodging several arrows, the two rushed into the forest on the opposite side of the road.

The snowstorm was gradually ceasing; if they didn't shake off their pursuers before night ended, they truly wouldn't get away.

Or perhaps, eliminate them while night still cloaked the land.

After weaving with Kreya through the forest for a while, the hoofbeats continued to trail closely behind.

Running alongside, Kane furrowed his brow, his heart sinking; it seemed the possibility of shaking off this band of soldiers was minimal.

If there weren't any other factors, Kane wouldn't even believe a single toe.

"The squad behind us is unlikely to lose—they're relentless. Let's take a chance while the night still covers us," Kane spoke to Kreya as he ran.

"Haven't felt this way in a long time, haven't we?" Kreya's smile whispered faintly.

Hearing Kreya's words, Kane couldn't help but shake his head, bursting into laughter.

Yes, except for the initial experiences of life-and-death battles at the Crystal Arena.

It's been a long time since feeling such urgency.

They ran forward, intuitively splitting in different directions, left and right.

The four light cavalry chasing after them, their leader hesitated for a moment before splitting into two pairs, pursuing Kreya and Kane.

Kane, rushing toward another direction, heard the hoofbeats behind him noticeably lessen, a human-like smile emerging on the fierce wolf face.

Currently, Kane and Kreya intended to work together to eliminate these four trained, coordinated light cavalry and the soldiers hastily approaching from the rear—a very difficult task.

However, by separating the four light cavalry, each dealing with two, and slowing down the rear soldier reinforcements.

The chance for success increased considerably.

Thinking this, Kane pushed with all his might, accelerating to widen the gap with the cavalry.

The footprints on the snow showed Kane's path, leading the soldiers to the place he desired.

Kane, sprinting wildly, saw a pile of grass ahead and quickly transformed from a giant wolf into human form, rolling forward to halt his speed.

Behind him, two light cavalry tracking the footprints in the snow were urging their mounts faster, attempting to catch up to Kane.

"Whoosh!"

An arrow pierced the air.

Striking viciously into the horse's neck; many key areas were covered by a layer of basic leather armor.

Yet the neck remained unprotected.

The warhorse, in agony, thrashed about, throwing the cavalryman from its back.

His companion didn't immediately help him up but instead drew his weapon, watching the surroundings warily.

That pained warhorse jumped around wildly for a moment before collapsing lifelessly—the arrow had fiercely penetrated its neck, striking its vital spot.

As he tumbled to the ground, the cavalryman rolled several times to avoid any subsequent attacks.

Quickly getting up, he retrieved the crossbow from his waist, vigilant of the surroundings.

Seemingly sensing Kane's location, the mounted cavalry fired at a tree trunk.

Kane dodged the flying arrow, knowing his position was compromised, so he leapt to another tree trunk out of the soldiers' sight.

The two soldiers followed closely, pursuing the source of noise from the tree, continuously loading their crossbows and shooting at Kane.

Kane could only evade in the thicket.

His body was already scraped with numerous wounds.

As they pursued, the warhorse beneath the mounted soldier suddenly began writhing on the spot, unwilling to advance.

Swaying side to side, it eventually wobbled and collapsed, glaring, foaming at the mouth.

At some point, Kane had poisoned this horse.

Now, both soldiers had lost their key advantage—their mounts.

Back-to-back, they ceased pursuit, wary of their surroundings.

Of course, Kane wouldn't miss this perfect opportunity.

An arrow shot from behind a tree trunk.

Striking fiercely at a light cavalryman's knee joint, the armor there was extremely thin, with considerable gaps.

"Ah!" he screamed, clutching his leg, collapsing to the ground, losing mobility.

Another arrow flew by, hitting his unarmored hand, rendering him harmless.

Kane emerged from behind a tree trunk.

In his hand was the long spear taken from the horse slain by his arrow.

The unharmed cavalryman slowly approached Kane, drawing his waist sword.

Kane didn't wish to waste time as there were many infantry swiftly approaching from the rear.

Gripped another dusty bag, tossing it at the soldier.

Watching the object approach, the helmeted soldier, unaware of its nature, instinctively swung his sword, blinding himself with airborne dust.

Amidst the settling dust, a long spear plunged through his chest.

Withdrawing the spear, Kane stabbed at his neck mercilessly, ensuring the kill.

Watching the cavalryman crumble to ash.

Kane picked up the rewards from the ash, coming to the soldier clutching his leg, cowering behind the tree.

He had removed his helmet—his filthy face and gaping mouth with black-yellow teeth roared at Kane.

Within his mouth, some white creatures crawled.

Without hesitation, Kane pierced his skull with a spear.

Gathering his spoils amid ash, he approached the fallen warhorse.

Retrieving crushed herbs from his pouch, he rubbed the horse's thin leg wound.

Then divided his share, feeding the horse.

In less than a minute, the horse stood, its sickly appearance gone.

In truth, Kane hadn't poisoned it—only used simple paralysis herbs.

Meanwhile.

Kreya was surrounded by a warhorse; ash lay thinly on its back.

A cavalryman wielding a long spear stood before her, ready to confront Kreya.

He was the squad leader.

Striking the horse's flank, he raised his spear, charging at Kreya.
