Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons

Chapter 280: Desperation

The galloping warhorse carried the spear-wielding captain, the sharp spear tip aimed at Kreya, standing motionless in place.

Facing the incoming attack, Kreya's gaze was sharp, one hand gripping the sword blade tightly, the other holding the long spear steadily.

"Clang!"

The sword blade blocked the sliding spear tip, then pushed it away. Kreya slightly turned her body, dodging the incoming spear blade, and then thrust the long spear diagonally.

The diagonal thrust of the long spear tore through the armor at the cavalry captain's waist, creating a gash, and blood oozed out.

He tried to pull back the spear to defend, but the sword blade, free now, emitted a faint magic power glow. With Kreya's arm swinging, she forcefully struck down.

The sword blade easily sliced through the spear shaft obstructing the way; its force undiminished, it struck down on the cavalry captain's chest armor, creating a massive wound through the armor and flesh.

The cavalry captain might be strong by ordinary standards, but Kreya's martial arts were honed. Though her current strength was suppressed, her skills and the knowledge and experience in her mind were not weakened.

The cavalry captain's attack was full of flaws in her eyes. In a one-on-one situation, he was by no means a match for Kreya.

Though the cavalry captain was already at the end of his strength, he did not fall. He mustered the last bit of energy, holding his spear shaft, and charged at Kreya again.

Facing Kreya's long spear already blocking him, he ignored it and charged straight in, shouting something loudly as he did.

Kreya's long spear pierced through him; his attacking spear could not stab Kreya, falling powerlessly to the side instead.

"Whizz!"

Several crossbow arrows flew from behind the soldier captain, some hitting the soldier captain's back, with just one successfully slipping through his raised spear arm and hitting Kreya's arm.

The cavalry captain had anticipated the arrival of the few long-range soldiers, his goal to injure Kreya even at the cost of his death.

The loud shout was precisely to signal these soldiers to attack.

Kreya released the long spear, letting it remain embedded in the soldier captain, and quickly turned to leave the spot, holding her sword.

Heading to rendezvous with Kane, Kreya kept the arrow lodged in her wrist, not daring to hastily pull it out.

"Kreya, you're hurt. How is it? Is it serious?"

Kane, rushing over on horseback, immediately noticed the crossbow arrow in Kreya's arm and asked with concern.

At this time, Kane's body was also covered in wounds, though from outward appearance, none were life-threatening, just superficial injuries.

"Let's go first, there's still pursuit behind us."

Hearing Kreya's words, Kane nodded, and they headed towards another village they had previously agreed upon.

This place was clearly no longer safe to stay. Leaving here first to find a temporary place to rest was the priority.

...

The 15th day of survival.

Halfway through the 30-day trial period.

Kane, riding his warhorse, stabbed a spear through the chest of a soldier blocking his path.

Then, lifting the spoils from the ashes, Kane quickly left the troublesome place.

Behind, numerous crossbowmen and archers were shooting at Kane, who was fleeing on horseback.

That night, after taking down that cavalry unit and successfully escaping the soldiers' encirclement, they had been walking around the map's perimeter.

The trial's difficulty seemed to have escalated, with the central city constantly dispatching troops to the perimeter, always close on Kane and his allies' trail.

No sooner had Kane shaken them off than they would catch up again, leading to only short rests before hitting the road again.

The encountered villages on the way became supply points for Kane and his team. The frenzied villagers, upon seeing Kane and his group passing through, would unhesitantly rush forward.

Kane and his group, needing supplies to maintain their physical strength and shake off the pursuing soldiers, thus welcomed them eagerly, saving quite a bit of time.

Seeing his warhorse appearing ill as they were headed to the hideout, Kane knew it might not be able to hold out any longer.

After all, this warhorse was an ordinary one, having followed Kane and the others during their escape without being fed any quality fodder.

It could only casually munch on roadside grasses, regardless of suitability, as Kane himself couldn't assure their own food supply, let alone this warhorse.

Therefore, it was time to let it go.

Kane cut a wound on his arm, the dripping blood smeared onto the warhorse.

Then he jumped off, pierced the horse's rump with an arrowhead, and watched it gallop away in pain.

Turning into a gray giant wolf, Kane slipped into the nearby forest.

Smearing the blood on the warhorse was meant to delay the pursuing soldiers behind them for some time.

After several days of testing, he had figured out how the pursuing soldiers behind him, after being shaken off, could quickly find them again.

It was their blood.

However, they couldn't pinpoint Kane and his team precisely but located the blood instead.

Especially the blood droplets, exuding a bloody scent.

The stronger the bloody scent, the more it captured their attention.

Thus, Kane and his team often relied on this to buy themselves time.

The gray giant wolf, after running a long way, arrived at a burrow at the bottom of a small hill.

Kreya and Lilulu were hiding there.

"Kane, you're back." Seeing it was Kane, Lilulu flew down from a tree beside the burrow.

She followed Kane into the burrow.

Inside the burrow, Kreya was leaning against the wall, fast asleep.

Her left arm wrapped in bandages, with bright red bloodstains indicating that this arm was obviously unusable.

Although Kane had helped Kreya treat the injury and found herbs to treat external wounds from the surrounding woods,

the crossbow arrow that struck her arm caused a deep wound that wouldn't easily heal, taking at least 10 to 15 days, even with Kreya's racial advantage.

Luckily, some plants in this dungeon were similar to those outside; otherwise…

Noticing the disturbance, Kreya woke from her sleep.

"You're back. How are things outside?"

In response to Kreya's question, Kainder wolf shook his head.

"Things aren't good. We must move immediately to find another hiding place. The scent of blood won't delay them for long."

They quickly consumed the food and water that exploded out, restored their physical strength, and swiftly left the place.
