Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons

Chapter 390 Relic

The morning dawn cast down from the stars in the sky.

Being on the Sky Island a thousand meters high, this feeling was even more pronounced.

However, today's sunlight wasn't very strong, and the temperature was not as hot as yesterday, making it a rather nice day.

At this moment, Kane and the others on the ground were following the direction of the compass needle, continuing their pursuit of their target, the Flying Wing Hunter.

As anticipated, the situation was just as Kane expected. Near dawn, the needle that continuously spun throughout the night finally came to a stop, pointing in one direction.

At this moment, they were moving in that direction.

But the location of the target made them somewhat puzzled.

The compass in Kane's hand had the needle pointing straight ahead. Kane took two steps forward, and the needle immediately flipped to point behind.

"What does this mean?" Longbei looked at the needle moving back and forth and asked.

"Underground." Meizike revealed the key point in one sentence.

Hearing Meizike's words, Kane nodded: "It should be underground, no wonder it's said that this creature is rarely encountered; it normally stays underground."

As he spoke, Kane stepped back and held the compass vertically, and the needle indeed pointed straight at the ground beneath their feet.

"How do we get down there? We can't just dig, and we don't know how deep it is," Kreya said.

Kreya's words indeed made Kane and the others feel stuck.

Drilling on the spot would certainly reach the location, but such activity would undoubtedly alarm the target below, leading to another chase.

Moreover, the Flying Wing Hunter's info mentioned their speed as extremely fast, almost ghostly, with talents fully invested in speed. If pursued, they might just lose track of them.

With alert targets, capturing them would be even harder.

"What do we do now?" Longbei asked.

After Kane frowned and thought for a while while looking at the ground beneath his feet, he extended his hand, and as magic power surged out, fine metal structures began to form in his hand, then merged together.

A mechanical creation resembling a small snake with a pointed head was constructed, only the size of Kane's palm.

"Let's use this to probe downward first. Its movements are tiny; hopefully, it doesn't go beyond 10 meters," Kane said.

After speaking, he walked five to six meters to the side and placed the creation on the ground, beginning to control it.

The snake-like object, with a sharp head, began to spin rapidly, almost silently, and instantly drilled a small hole in the ground, the entire body diving down.

About seven to eight meters down, it encountered a very hard stone block.

Kane closed his eyes, released his perception, and focused intently, controlling the mechanical structure to carefully feel the slab.

As the hole created by the structure grew larger, the entire stone block's area became visible, and the slabs were very firmly interlocked, clearly man-made objects.

Kane began to control the mechanical structure to drill along the smooth slab surface toward the target's location.

Finally, with slight movement, he reached the target's location. Now, the only question was whether the target was above or below the slab.

Kane controlled the structure to slowly rotate upwards, only to meet no space, smoothly emerging from the ground.

Kreya and the others watched as the structure drilled out from under their feet and turned their attention to Kane beside them.

"It seems those Flying Wing Hunters are hiding inside the ruins." The underground slabs were clearly the ceiling of the subterranean ruins, which almost hollowed out the interior of the Sky Island, as noted in the travel guide's information.

These ruins have many exits, and it appears that these Flying Wing Hunters use the ruins' entrances to conceal their whereabouts. Perhaps there are many small passages only they can enter.

No wonder they're so hard to catch.

"Yuyou, are there any entrances to the ruins around here?" Kane asked Yuyou beside him.

All the information and maps of the dungeon were input into Yuyou's body, which of course, included the Sky Island's topography.

Upon hearing Kane's words, Yuyou projected a 3D topographic map of the Sky Island into the air, marking Kane and the others' location and highlighting the entrance to the ruins.

Kane looked closely, and to their left, just 300 meters away, there was an entrance to the ruins.

They walked toward the entrance.

This entrance was hidden within a large tree in front of them, which appeared to be a real tree, but in reality, was an artificial fake tree, hollow in the center.

Kane explored around the tree and found a gap, reached out to grab a handle, and yanked it open, revealing the tree's internal structure.

Inside the tree, there was nothing peculiar, except a downward panel on the ground.

Kane stepped forward to pull open the panel, revealing a sloping staircase leading downward.

Seeing this scene, Kreya rolled her eyes helplessly; it was her least favorite architectural design.

Seeing Kreya's expression, Kane chuckled, patted her arm, and said, "Don't worry, I'll fill up the stairs to make it a slope."

Then, letting Longbei and the others move down first, he and Kreya followed.

As they stepped onto the stairs, Kane filled in the rough texture on the surface of the stairs, making the slope smooth enough for Kreya to descend easily.

The tunnel leading downward was not dark; there was glowing moss all around, attached in orderly clumps. It was clear this was the work of later explorers, or perhaps dungeon maintenance personnel.

After descending for a short while, they arrived at a flat area.

The entire ruin was composed of various tunnels and spaces of different sizes, but the purpose of these ruins has long been unknown.

Useful information components and damaged equipment had been thoroughly scavenged by previous explorers.

Now, what remained were structures integrated into the ruins or equipment embedded within the buildings.

Inside the ruins, large clumps of glowing moss still illuminated the internal space.

Thick dust covered the floors and walls of the ruins, indicating that no one had visited this area in a long time.

Indeed, aside from curious explorers, most explorers did not hold much interest in such places, given that they had been explored for hundreds of years.

Moreover, even the curious explorers might not be able to reach the location of the Sky Island.

Kane and his group began to spread out and inspect the entire space, as the walls of this area were adorned with various murals depicting the dungeon and Sky Island.

The murals did not need Kane and his team to decipher because they had already been interpreted and documented in travel guides; Kane and his team were merely satisfying their curiosity.

The stories recorded on the murals roughly described how this Sky Island floated up. It was said that a powerful Energy Core and various magic runes manufactured caused the island to rise.

After observing for a while and satisfying their curiosity, they continued with their original objective.

With the team, they began to follow the needle on the compass to investigate.

Following the needle through twists and turns and passing through two tunnels, they saw in the distance a nest constructed with various turfs and tree roots.

The foul smell of blood and decay was so pungent that Kane and his team detected it clearly from afar, though it wasn't coming from the nest far away.

Instead, in a small depression nearby, there was a pile of feathers and bones, unmistakably the work of a Flying Wing Hunter.

Kane held his breath slightly, using his Eagle Eye to peer into the nest, where by the light of the glowing moss, he saw a black-furred feline with enormous ears curled up, resting.

Several tiny kittens were crawling over him, frolicking playfully.

Kane and his team slowly crept closer.

With two soft noises, two strands of white spider silk shot towards the black-furred creature that was curled up resting.

As the swiftly fired silk was about to hit its target, the black feline seemed startled and immediately transformed into a cloud of black mist, evading to the side. The white spider silk only managed to enclose a few of the kittens, wrapping them together.

The black feline, reformed from black mist, roared angrily at Kane and his team before transforming into black mist again and charging at them.

However, at that moment, a rainbow-colored beam shot from Lilu's Magic Staff, directly striking the charging black mist.

The black mist instantly solidified into the form of the black feline, which then twisted and transformed under the rainbow light until it became a small white rabbit, which landed on the ground and scampered around.

This was Lilu's fairy tale magic, often used by her to control enemies. Any opponent not stronger than her was almost certain to be defeated upon being hit.

Kane walked over and enclosed the rabbit in a transparent rectangular steel box.

As the box closed, Lilu canceled her magic, and the rabbit instantly transformed back into a large black panther-sized feline about one and a half meters long.

The most noticeable feature was its giant ears, which did not droop down, but gently floated up.

These were the winged ears that aided it in flight.

Even though it was trapped in the transparent steel box, the panther-like cat continued baring its teeth, roaring at Kane and his team, and incessantly pawed at the glass cabin.

Kane ignored it and instead turned to the nest, where the kittens wrapped in spider silk were mewing incessantly.

Each little kitten had a strand of white spider silk tied around its neck to prevent them from running off. Kane then dispelled the silk enveloping them.

In Kane's arms, the six kittens were incessantly biting and pawing at his clothing, which made Lilu's eyes sparkle with stars.

Lilu glanced at the side for a moment at the confined feline, which was frantically darting around the transparent steel box, looking conflicted.

"What's the matter, Lilu?"

In response to Kane's question, Lilu said, "Can we catch another one? I want to bring them together into my fairy tale world."

Looking back at the panther-like cat within the transparent steel box, Kane chuckled and replied, "Don't worry, Lilu, the mission requires a live capture. We can buy it back once we complete the task."

"Is that really possible?"

"Of course it is."

Kane wasn't deceiving Lilu; it was indeed a provision he learned from chatting with Funa and the others. Unexpectedly, it came in handy here.

The so-called commission targets for live capture were typically rare species.

These targets would be released after delivery unless they were suitable as food, in which case they would be slaughtered.

The Flying Wing Hunter, however, was not considered suitable as food due to its poor taste, so it would certainly be released—it was better for Kane and his team to purchase it instead.
