The five people brought out are Ryan and Ryen's family: their mother, father, two older brothers, and their baby sister.

Everyone sucked in cold breath when they saw the five people the assassins walked to the entrance of the city. Their focus shifted away from Hazen, who is groaning and moaning on the floor.

The new arrivals took everyone's attention.

Both brothers are bleeding from their shoulders and backs. Though covered by silky blue clothes, it is plain as day that they had endured excruciating torture from the hands of the Dark Assassins.

As for the parents, their father is blinded in one eye — probably a retaliation for the twins' blinding Hazen's eyes. As for their mother, her left arm is broken, and she is bleeding from her forehead and thighs.

But the worst of them all is the little sister. She had both her hands broken and her skin cut in many places. But that isn't all; they had used a hot iron to brand her forehead with the word 'slut'.

When Ryan and Ryen saw this, their hearts sank, fury bubbling in their eyes.

"Navira." They both bolted to their little sister, who is even struggling to keep her eyes open. Everyone gathered at the city entrance sympathised with her.

Since she is merely a level 2 Root Awakening Stage cultivator, she could be considered a mortal. So the pain is getting to her more than the rest.

Also, she isn't healing at all, unlike her parents and big brothers.

Adin Mattew, who was planning on standing in for the Wardens, felt his heartbeat slow down when he saw this.

Before he could do anything, a sword light flashed through the air, and Hazen was sliced into countless pieces. Kent made his move, and it was plain that a massacre was about to happen.

ROAR

Then a mighty dragon roared, filling the air with anger, and danger erupted from Kent. In the air, a terrifying sight caught everyone's attention.

Two majestic dragons, one made of blue ice and the other made of green flames, rose into the air and unleashed their fury on the Dark Lord and his goons.

"After today, the Dark Warden Family will be no more," Kent muttered coldly. Then, with a wave of his hand, Ryan and his family vanished into the tower, appearing in the tower garden.

'Gaia, help them settle in and find healers to take care of the injured,' Kent spoke to Gaia, who nodded and quickly brought the new arrivals to Gaiaville.

She summoned Elaine's parents, who are also healers, and a few healers from Nature City. Since Kent brought these people, they must be important to him, so Gaia didn't waste any time.

On the outside, before anyone could process where Ryan and his family went, the dragons surged toward the Dark Lord and his guards. All five of them felt dread immediately.

The pressure behind the two dragons coming was just too overwhelming.

They raised a shield formed from a dark mist, aiming to block them and buy time for the Dark Lord to make his move on Kent. However, a second later, they realised their shield was no match for the dragons.

"Retreat," the Dark Lord said, teleporting back into the city. His guards also did; however, one of them was too slow to move.

Before he could teleport, the shield cracked, and the flame dragon fell on him, reducing him to ash.

"Raise the Dark Formation," the Dark Lord commanded, and in an instant, 12 pillars lit up in the city, manifesting a giant formation. The city gate shut, and a dome of dark energy covered the entire city.

But that wasn't all. Just when the formation fully manifested, a large skull rose and towered over the city, casting an ominous atmosphere over everyone.

Even from afar, it looked colossal, showing just the kind of danger it commanded.

When the people saw this, they all turned pale.

"It is the Underworld Giant Skull."

"Yes. It is the Legendary Skull that has protected this City for tens of thousands of years."

"This Kent Madson is done for. To think he caused the Dark Lord to reveal his trump card right off the bat."

"Oh, he'd be dead for sure."

Suddenly, the sky turned dark, and a mega-storm began to form.

Still standing on the outside, Kent gazes at the formation and the skull with a calm expression. The formation is Tier 17. From Faceless' memories, Kent learned that an insidious Formation Emperor had created it.

Faceless had studied that formation back in the day when he was planning to assassinate the Demon King. It turned out that the city where the Demon King lived had the same formation.

The same person created both formations.

So, in order not to be trapped if the mission went sideways, Faceless infiltrated the Dark City Sanctum and studied this formation.

This was how he knew its grade and who created it. But that wasn't all. After three days studying the countless arrays woven into this formation, Faceless found a way to deactivate it.

The formation powers the Underworld Giant Skull, so the moment it is deactivated, the storm forming in the clouds, which Kent knew would be a danger to his life, would also deactivate.

However, Kent didn't immediately attack; he waited for the thousands of assassins to arrive first. Naturally, in no time, they all stood behind their leader, daggers and bows drawn, ready to bring down Kent.

"Since you all are here, we can start." The moment Kent said that, his hand formed into complex seals. In an instant, a rune formed in the air.

Adin narrowed his gaze at the rune, sensing some familiarity with it. However, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't place his finger on where he saw this rune.

"Era of the Wardens comes to an end today." He gestured forward, and the rune flew and merged with the formation. The moment it did, the entire city shuddered.

Then the formation flickered and cracked.

"Huh," the Dark Lord looked at the formation with a startled gaze.

However, before he could do anything, the two dragons appeared over the city and took a nosedive into it, shattering the giant formation.

Kent turned to Adin and spoke in a commanding tone... "I will leave the safety of the Dark City to the Midnight Shadows."

Without waiting for a reply, Kent vanished into the city. What followed was the greatest massacre Adin had ever witnessed in his life.

A single slash of Kent's sword cleaves through hundreds of assassins as if they were mere butter. But that wasn't all; his speed is blinding.

From the start of the battle to the end, Adin nor anyone who witnessed this massacre could dare say they saw Kent's silhouette. He was just too fast.

In less than 20 minutes, every last Dark Assassin was reduced to a pile of shredded bodies. Kent spared no one. He made sure every last one of them died screaming, begging, or completely unaware.

If the torture were only inflicted on Ryan's parents and big brothers, he would have shown mercy. However, seeing what they did to their baby sister, Kent's fury exploded.

They were just too cruel, and so by the time everyone realised, the deed had already been done.

Kent flew into the air and looked down at the city. Then, in a tone amplified by his essence, he spoke, his voice travelling as far as the wind could take it...

"From today onwards, this city is under the care of the Midnight Shadows. All who have a problem with that can raise their hands and let me send them to the afterlife."

The entire Dark City turned quiet, every living soul gazing at the silhouette in the air.

Nobody dared make a sound when the Overlord spoke.
