"I wouldn't have returned if it wasn't for the fact that our boss got arrested by the Federation," Devon remarked, placing his briefcase on the table.
Hearing his words, the intelligence officers sighed as what the federal government had done was beyond their expectations.
With the SIGIL Headquarters gone, the Federation was the only entity with actual authority over the country, besides the private sector and CORE.
"What happened in the northern fringes?" One of the officers questioned, staring at Devon for answers. They remain ignorant about the reality of the situation.
Despite being the Intelligence Division of SIGIL, their internal power wasn't as intricate as their external intelligence network.
It was primarily due to the Federation, which also operated its own Intelligence Agency.
The federal government didn't want another organization to be gathering intelligence in the country. It was an influence that they should only have.
"A collaboration with another division to handle the growing cult in the north," Devon responded, sitting on his chair and looking at the astounded officers.
"Collaboration? With who?" Another officer inquired, wanting to know who collaborated with their division without any of them noticing.
"SIGIL Seventh Division, Block 7." As Devon answered, the officers furrowed their eyebrows, connecting the puzzles of information.
The situation finally made sense for all of them. How the seventh Paragon got arrested with their boss. Alongside the reason the SIGIL Headquarters got eliminated.
"Did the cult spread so far, even reaching the SIGIL?" It was a horrifying thought, but it was the reality they found themselves in.
"It wasn't the cult, but that organization. The one that separated from us during the first rebellion." The Abominable Cult was long gone.
Damien made sure to annihilate every part of it, not leaving anything behind to fester in the darkness. He was as thorough as his boss, the seventh Paragon.
"The Shadow Division, huh? If they had infiltrated SIGIL, the Federation must have also been corrupted by that terrorist organization."
"Is this why the fifth and seventh Paragons have been arrested? Because of the truth?" In the minds of the intelligence officers, their current circumstances were the worst of many outcomes.
Devon looked at their anxious faces and chuckled at the sight. "Hey, it's not like the boss is alone. Beside her is the strongest of humanity, the seventh Paragon."
"No matter how arrogant the Federation becomes. They wouldn't burn the bridges; otherwise, they would lose power."
"But if they do lose power, they would gain complete freedom from the strongest. They wouldn't have to be careful and cower under the strongest's gaze."
An officer remarked, earning the grunts of many. Devon also sighed, understanding that some bastards were simply greedy.
None of them could care about long-term effects as long as the present could be constructed into their image without oversight.
"I doubt it would be easy for the Federation to burn the bridges they do not want to exist," Devon muttered, attracting the attention of his colleagues. "No matter how much they wished."
"The New World wouldn't return to how it was back then in the Old World, where the elites stood at the summit of the world."
"Instead of wondering about our boss, we should continue doing our job. The infiltrators inside the Federation stand in the shadows. Their identities are unknown."
"If we want the Paragons to have a chance against the federal government, they need all the intelligence they could get."
Devon uttered with resolve, prompting the officers to nod in agreement. As intelligence operatives, there was one thing they could do. That was to provide information.
What better information could they give other than the identities of the infiltrators within the Federation?
Following his words, the intelligence officers started taking out their phones to begin a widespread manhunt on the so-called infiltrators.
But before they could make a single call, Devon halted them with a single question. "Do any of you know where the tribunal of the two Paragons is held?"
One of the officers stepped forward and answered. "The Federation tried to hide the location, but it wasn't difficult to find."
"The location of the tribunal is Los Angeles, California. Why did you need the information? It's not like we can do anything about it."
Even though they were Jaegers, they were intelligent operators first and foremost. Against the Federation and some Paragons loyal to them, they stood no chance.
If it were a war of intelligence, it would be easy to take them down from the inside. But it required time. And time was what they lacked.
"We might not be able to assist our boss and the seventh Paragon in some way. But someone is capable of doing such a thing." Devon's lips curved into a subtle smile.
"And who may this someone be?" The officers questioned as he turned his gaze towards the window and replied. "The one who handled the operation in the northern fringes."
"A member of the seventh division, the only Aberrant standing with humanity."
"Damien of Block 7."
Without a doubt, the Aberrant would seek information about where the tribunal would be held. And they would provide it to him.
Although he wouldn't be able to defeat a Paragon, the trouble he could cause would be tantamount to a nuclear bomb. It was enough to shake things up.
"Damien, huh? The one who took care of the Abominable Cult and the Shadow Division in the north. A powerful and rising Jaeger." An officer remarked, eyes furrowed in deep thought.
"Alright, I will collect all intelligence regarding the tribunal. Its location, forces, and attendants. I shall give my report later."
The intelligence officer nodded and stormed out of the meeting room. Those within the room glanced at one another before taking their leave.
Devon was left behind alongside a senior officer. The elder looked at the young operative and said. "Your confidence is steadfast."
"I didn't expect you to trust that Aberrant during your time in the northern fringes. The cold must have affected your brain in some way." The senior officer chuckled.
"I just saw something good and decided to place my bets where they should belong." Devon smiled at the elder, remembering the moment he saw the battle in the Valley of Forsaken.
When Damien summoned that giant pitch-black lady who rivalled the Avatar. It was a scene that the intelligence operative could never forget.
A picturesque image of power.
---
On the other hand, near the outskirts of New York. The evening skies rumbled as a thunderstorm roared amidst the bellowing heavens. In the center of it all was Damien.
The black-suited young man watched as the weather transformed before his gaze. The calm night skies transformed into a torrent of storms as lightning streaked across the shaded heavens.
Such was the result of the summoning of his first four-star Terrestrial Monster, which cost him five thousand Terror Points to procure.
It might be his most expensive entity in the arsenal of monsters under his command. A combination of two powerful two-star Terrestrial Monsters.
The Mechanized Draconic God.
As light flashed across the black storm, a gargantuan silhouette emerged. It spanned five hundred meters across, its wings even larger.
Damien was astounded to see what he had summoned into the world. It was a monster beyond monsters, something that might be capable of rivalling and even surpassing Eclipse's third form.
Descending from the thunderous storm, a gargantuan machine dragon made its landing onto the ground. The earth quivered as machinery crackled within its body.
It was a giant dragon comprised of technology.
"Lord Oberon, your Apostle is honored." The Mechanized Draconic God bowed, the air trembling upon its presence.
The body of the machine dragon loomed over the world. It was far larger than the Avatar and Eclipse combined. He even wondered what would have happened if it were this that fought the Avatar.
It would be an unfortunate sight for the false Aberrant.
The status screen materialized, its bluish hue displaying the newly granted Monster and the bestowed personal skills.
