So I Became a Witch and Started Doing Daily Quests

Ch. 171

Chapter 171: Happy Winter Break

Hearing Janna’s words, an inexplicable shiver suddenly ran down Vivian’s spine.

“You’re not talking about that dark, smelly egg you made last time, are you?”

“Yes. Didn’t you think it tasted wonderful when dipped in vinegar?”

Recalling the time she was reluctantly treated to the “black egg” under Janna’s enthusiastic hospitality, Vivian could hardly forget the scene.

That unforgettable flavor made her feel nauseated even now, just thinking about it.

“Mm— the taste was certainly unique.”

Seeing Vivian’s forced smile, Janna shrugged, realizing her “delight” had been tactfully declined.

She didn’t insist further, knowing that Vivian had always only enjoyed sweets and couldn’t possibly appreciate the “delicacy” from her past life’s homeland.

“Janna, over here!”

Just as they entered the third floor’s general studies classroom in the Magic Tower, Janna heard Maro Heigel’s enthusiastic shout.

“Good morning, Maro. Thanks for saving us seats.”

“It’s the least I could do.”

Since they had spent quite some time at the cafeteria, Janna and Vivian arrived a bit later than usual today.

Looking around, it seemed that most of the front seats were already taken, with only a few rows at the back still relatively empty.

“Janna, Vivian, I’m over here.”

Just as Janna was about to take the reluctant Vivian to sit beside Maro Heigel, Bell Moonshadow’s voice suddenly rang out from the second row.

“So Bell saved us seats too. Janna, let’s sit there— you still prefer the front, after all.”

For the first time, Vivian found Bell Moonshadow’s voice endearing and immediately pulled Janna toward the front row.

Seeing this, Janna politely apologized to Maro Heigel before following Vivian to their usual spot beside Bell Moonshadow.

“Stop staring—careful or someone’s going to steal your soul again.”

Noticing Maro Heigel’s reluctant gaze at Janna’s back, Nia Flare, seated to his left, mercilessly exposed his thoughts.

“Mind your own business.”

A slightly embarrassed and irritated Maro Heigel, unusually, dropped his usual poise and coldly retorted to Nia Flare before turning back to face forward.

“Some people, no matter how humble their origins, are destined to be like the distant, unreachable moon— not the same kind as us.”

He fell silent. Listening to the noise of the classroom, Maro Heigel, with a complex expression, didn’t say another word.

“Bell, what made you save us seats today?”

Due to having teamed up in the Marsh Secret Realm, Vivian’s relationship with Bell Moonshadow had eased significantly.

At least it wasn’t as awkward as before, when they wouldn’t even greet each other in private.

“It wasn’t me who saved the seats. I didn’t arrive much earlier than you— I just happened to see these spots were empty when I got here.”

Hearing that, Vivian glanced suspiciously toward a few male apprentices in the third row. Seeing their evasive expressions, she knowingly sat beside Janna.

“Looks like we’ve underestimated someone’s charm~”

“What do you mean?”

Bell Moonshadow, not catching the subtext, tilted her head and looked at Vivian with confusion.

“As long as it’s a seat someone usually sits in, no one else ever dares to take it— there are plenty of people watching out for us.”

Saying that, Vivian gave Janna a mischievous look, but Janna, as always, acted as if it had nothing to do with her. She simply tucked her hair back and sat quietly without saying a word.

“Professor Grace is here!”

No one knew who shouted, but the once noisy classroom instantly fell silent.

With crisp footsteps echoing at the door, Grace Eva, dressed in a deep crimson wizard robe, walked briskly up to the podium.

“Apprentices, first of all, I want to congratulate you on completing all your first-year courses. Starting next semester, you will be official second-year apprentices of White Coral Academy— welcome.”

Clap clap clap—

As soon as Grace Eva finished speaking, applause erupted throughout the classroom.

After all, nearly a quarter of the students had permanently left the academy and returned to the Lower City after the final exams, saying farewell to the path of the wizard.

“Next, besides congratulating you on graduating from your first year, I must also remind you to stay safe during the upcoming two-month winter break— I don’t want to suddenly hear news of someone’s death when the next semester begins...”

Listening to Grace Eva’s half-hearted reminder, Vivian nudged Janna with her elbow.

“Do you want to stay at my place during the break? My family has always wanted to meet you.”

“Really? Am I that famous?”

“Of course— not. It’s just that I talk about you a lot in front of them, so they’re curious about you—”

Perhaps it was the looming vacation, but the whispering among the students grew louder.

Noticing this, the usually stern Grace Eva didn’t stop them; instead, her eyes showed a rare hint of a smile.

“Lastly, let me wish everyone a Happy New Year in advance—shhh—” As her voice fell, several beams of white light suddenly flashed in front of the apprentices.

As the light faded, a white wizard robe embroidered with a coral emblem appeared on each desk.

“It’s the second-year wizard robe? So we can’t choose the color this time?”

Looking at the white wizard robe on her desk, Vivian, whose personal taste leaned toward icy blue, muttered softly.

“All right, class dismissed. See you next year.”

“Goodbye, Professor Grace—”

As Grace Eva left the classroom, the already restless room instantly exploded with chatter.

“Janna, seriously, do you want to spend the New Year at my place?”

Seeing Vivian’s earnest expression, Janna’s look also became serious.

“Wouldn’t that disturb your family’s private gathering? After all, I’m just an outsider, I might get in the way.”

“You’re not an outsider! You’re a good friend!”

Hearing Janna speak so formally, Vivian pouted like a boiling kettle.

“All right, if you don’t mind the trouble— I’d be happy to.”

“Yay!”

Seeing Janna finally agree, the smile on Vivian’s face almost overflowed.

“Let’s go, it’s my treat today! Let’s go have a good meal together— to celebrate the first day of winter break!”
