Unliving-Living

Chapter 53: Yes so what...

It had been a couple hours since Saquin woke up from his slumber.

[ Bloodline Assimilation in progress...

6 days, 18 hours+ remaining. ]

Through these short hours, Saquin had not done anything significant.

In fact, he never left his room.

He had simply toiled away the hours in the room, moving from entertaining his ever thinking mind with the Net to simply staring at the ceiling then stuffing his face with an unhealthy amount of food.

What was the point of having a constitution as broken as his if he cannot indulge in the little pleasure of life such as unhealthy eating.

In that short moment, he experienced a new form of life.

The slacker's life.

Rich Slacker life.

And he fell in love with it.

He even began to wonder if he should just live the rest of his days like this.

He had more than enough wealth that thinking he could ever blow through it with his life span is just stupid. Not just wealth, he also had protection. With Shalis by his side, he would never have to stress over the most troubling problem of over ninety nine percent of existence, survival. As long as he did not go out of his way to court death, he would live till his bones turned white.

Saquin had no specific attachments to the Empowered World or to the notion of growing stronger.

As someone born as a Divine and also as an incredibly strong Hybrid, he was always strong. He was born with the feeling of being fundamentally better than everyone else. Living with such a feeling can have two effects. Either the creation of drive to maintain such status or that of an innately arrogant punk.

In Saquin's case, he was of the innately arrogant side. But the feeling was especially magnified for him due to his special circumstances.

In his point of view, he is a higher being. An idea so ingrained into him that the normal drive for beings with wills are redundant to him. What he wants is simple, as a higher being in the plane of the normal, he should see what is of this world.

Of course, he himself does not realize that he had a couple screws loose up there and this ones were not of the effect of being part Dead.

So.

He could not hold his curiosity and thirst for knowledge in. He cannot resign to such a mundane life if he truly wanted to see the things he wished to.

This world was huge, he should explore it.

This was his train of thought when he finally jumped off his bed and walked outside, into the interior of the Simus.

As he stepped out though, at the back of his mind, he knew he did not just decide against living the slacker's life because of his curiosity. No, it also had something to do with the thrill he felt during the Access incident.

A smirk crept up his face as he walked.

A part of him could not wait till the next time he would be in such an incident.

As he walked, he flipped his Comm to check something out.

"19th of August."

He muttered to himself.

"12 days more to go."

"Yo Simus." He addressed the ship's AI. "How long would it take us to reach the center sector of the galaxy?"

- If we go through uninterrupted direct space travel with this ship, it would take more than thirty days. If we cut our routes with teleportation nodes, it would take less than fifteen days. If we go through the optimal Teleportation Portal at space stations, including the rest and wait period, it would take about five days.

Saquin listened attentively. "I hate space station travels. What if we mix teleportation nodes and a bit of Teleportation Portals?"

- Depending on how the trip is planned out, especially on the aspects of how many Teleportation Portals that are used. But optimally, it would take less than ten days.

"Nice. Plan a route with nine days as the time mark." He instructed. "Oh, and if you can do it in a way that on the sixth day we are either on a life planet or a standard Space Station. That would be appreciated."

- Noted... The route has been successfully planned.

"Well, that was fast." Saquin acknowledged.

He turned to face Shalis who had appeared by his side at some point.

"Hey, how are you doing?" He greeted her.

"Doing good, Young Master." She replied.

"We are all alone, Shalis, you do not have to call me that." Saquin rolled his eyes.

"But I wish to." She gave him cute puppy eyes.

Saquin was taken aback.

She seems to have changed recently.

He noticed it since her return, it seemed she had matured, in reverse.

For the short while he had spent with her pre-Access, despite her reverence for him, he was able to easily uncover her personality. He concluded that she was an easy going person but she was reserved and also carried a hint of pride. Pride is natural to those of her power level.

All in all, she was like a typical powerhouse with no specific authoritative position. Dignified and commanding of respect but not overbearing.

Now, though...

"Why are you giving me those eyes?" He asked.

"Well, I read on the Net that it is effective against males." She said bluntly.

"Well, it is not effective against me." Saquin scoffed.

"Is that why you can not look me in the eye?" Shalis gave him a smug smile, but he missed it as he was staring at her boots.

"Tch, whatever. You can call me whatever you like, I don't care." Saquin dismissed the argument. It was a pointless one, he knew he could not change her mind.

He could... But..

"Understood, Young Master." Shalis nodded with a smile.

"Oh. That Adept and his assistance had called asking for you a couple times." She said to him as they both started walking towards the pilot area of the Starship.

"Why are they actively looking for me, I hope nothing is wrong?" Saquin asked with narrowed eyes, he had told Mayor he would get back to him after he rested. He would not call unless it is something important.

"Nothing wrong. They just wanted to inform you about the state of things with the city." Shalis explained.

"Oh." Saquin stopped walking. "And how are things going?"

"They said that the top brass of the planet and the powerful government officials had all arrived and checked out the city." Shalis stopped in her tracks as she listened to him.

"And what does that have to do with me?" Saquin tilted his head. "I already gave him the explanation of what happened in the city, and besides, they have their ways to know what had happened, so why bother me?"

"He said that the government officials would like to meet you. They stated that they would like to set up a meeting between you and the Federation at the Center Sector."

"Their motive?"

"Well, you are a Senar Initiate who did not just survive but also managed to kill the boss of a Tier 3 Access. The Federation upper echelon would like to speak with you, especially since they cannot easily access even your basic information due to your high citizenship level."

"The feat is not so unheard of to warrant this. A Divine Pinnacle Senar Initiate can replicate it, even if it is to great difficulty. Which is not much different from what I did."

"Yes, but you are of the Mid level."

"They don't know that."

"Yes, but I fear they suspect it." Shalis paused, "also, from my earlier routine of checking the surroundings for danger..."

"You know you can just say you were eavesdropping, right?" Saquin cut her off.

Shalis pouted but continued. "Anyway, from my earlier espionage, I feel that they even suspect that you just recently Awakened."

"I see now..." Saquin finally understood. "They suspect that I was..."

"Greader's killer." Shalis completed.

"Woah, how did they come to such a conclusion?" Saquin was impressed but also a bit put off. He was sure it was just a nagging suspicion for them, but they would not realize that they were actually on the money.

"Yea, they are simply reaching. I suggest we.."

"Oh, they are not reaching. I did kill him." Saquin interrupted her again.

Shalis was stunned for a second.

"Well, that's not good." She said, then. "Ah, who cares, they can't prove it. Even if they can, it is not their business."

"Yea," Saquin nodded. "What about Greader's Imperial family?"

"The Rimfrar family are still quiet on the topic. I don't think they share the same belief as the Federation."

"Probably." Saquin stood still for a moment, thinking. "I will meet with these Federation people."

----

An hour later, Saquin sat before a conference table, Shalis quietly hovered in her signature pose just behind him.

They were the only two breathing entities in the room, the other participants were present by means of holographic projection.

There were four of them.

The leading figure was a young woman with the flawless, ageless beauty of a high-tier Empowered, her blonde hair pulled into a severe knot. Her eyes, however, held the cold weight of centuries and command.

She pushed right into the heart of the matter.

"Before we start the chit chat, answer me boy. Did you kill the Rimfrar boy?"

Her voice was rougher than her looks and they carried with them authority basking in intimidation.

But Saquin answered without missing a beat.

"Yes."

He leaned forward.

"So what?"
