The Smiling Death

Chapter 158: Exploring Lunaris Haven

Amon walked out of the hallway with a spring in his step. The conversation with Professor Adelia played on repeat inside his head. Tomorrow, he was spending time with her tomorrow.

He couldn't stop smiling.

After turning a corner, he finally spotted the people he was looking for. Eliana and Seraphina sat under the shade of a large palm tree just outside the resort's entrance, enjoying the cool breeze coming from the sea. They were wearing casual clothes.

Aisha was there too. Leaning lazily against the wall, her tail flicking side to side with boredom.

Eliana waved first, her platinum-blonde hair glimmering in the afternoon sun. "Amon. You seem… unusually bright."

Seraphina's golden eyes narrowed. "Did something happen?"

Aisha snorted. "Hmph. Maybe he was busy talking with girls."

Amon grinned. "Even better."

'She nearly hit the spot. But it was not just any girls but a beautiful Professor,' he thought with a wide smile.

They stared at him.

He quickly escaped the interrogation by pulling out his pager. "Hold on, I'll call Marcus."

He connected the pager line to Marcus. Yes, they could communicate with each other this way.

Marcus answered his call.

"Come to the entrance. Also drag Lian and Arnold with you," Amon said from his side.

Marcus replied, "Tch! Why do I need to follow your orders?"

But still, Marcus did what he said. There was silence. Then, after some movement, Marcus responded. "Arnold said no. Didn't even listen. Tch. Coming with Lian."

Amon replied. "Okay, we are waiting."

Amon pocketed the pager.

Three minutes later, Marcus and Lian arrived. Marcus looked irritated, jaw clenched as if he had been arguing with Arnold before coming.

"Don't ask," Marcus said immediately. "He refused. Completely ignored me."

Lian, on the other hand, walked with a polite smile. He had sandy-brown hair, soft brown eyes, and a gentle aura.

Eliana stood up as he approached. Seraphina nodded politely.

Lian bowed slightly. "Hello. I am Lian Farcrest. I was assigned to the same room as Amon and Marcus. It is a pleasure to meet you all."

"Seraphina Luminous," she replied. "Nice to meet you."

"Eliana Sylvaris," Eliana said with her usual calm grace.

Aisha stared at him for a moment before giving a shrug. "Aisha."

Lian scratched his cheek awkwardly. "…Ah, I see. Well, everyone knows all of you from our class."

Amon clapped his hands. "Alright! Since everyone is here, let's explore the city. Lunaris Haven is huge! We won't get bored."

But Lian raised a hand.

"Ah… actually, I must apologize. My friends from another class just invited me to join them for a meal. I promised them earlier. I am very sorry."

Amon blinked. "Oh. Then go. No pressure."

"Yes! See you all later." Lian bowed again politely and left in a hurry.

Aisha stretched. "Good. One less person to slow us down."

Marcus rolled his eyes. "You're acting like we're going to battle."

Amon laughed. "It's fine. Five people is perfect anyway."

'Not expected for Aisha to join us. Maybe Seraphina and Eliana dragged her here.'

Eliana stepped forward, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Then let's begin. The city is known for its markets and seaside district."

Seraphina nodded. "And the Lunar Garden Park. It's famous for its floating crystal lanterns."

Aisha hopped forward with a grin. "And food! I heard there's a beastfolk chef here with crazy good meat dishes!"

Amon declared dramatically, "Then let's go! Lunaris Haven won't explore itself!"

Just like that, the five of them. Amon, Seraphina, Eliana, Marcus, and Aisha. Stepped into the lively streets of Lunaris Haven, ready to explore everything the beautiful vacation city had to offer.

The five stepped into the vibrant streets of Lunaris Haven, immediately greeted by a wave of salty breeze and the lively chatter of tourists. The city looked even more beautiful up close, white stone streets, hanging lanterns shaped like crescent moons, and colorful stalls stretching as far as the eye could see.

Aisha was the first to rush forward.

"Meat!" She sniffed the air like a beast. "I smell grilled meat!"

Marcus clicked his tongue. "Can you not embarrass us within the first five minutes?"

Aisha bared her fangs at him. "Shut it, twig."

Marcus' eyebrow twitched. "WHAT did you just—?"

Amon quickly stepped in. "Oi, oi! Save the violence for the enemies!"

"Shut up! You perv!" Aisha hissed at Amon, her ears twitching.

Eliana giggled, her clear blue eyes shining with mischief. "We haven't even bought anything, and you two are already behaving like siblings. And Amon, what did you do to get such a title from Aisha?"

"Don't compare me to her," Marcus said with a scoff.

Aisha cracked her knuckles. "Say that again." Then her eyes turned to Amon. Her eyes telling him not to open his damn mouth.

Amon smiled worriedly. "It's nothing, Eliana. Haha. She might have some misunderstanding." He made a random excuse.

Seraphina walked between them, calm and unbothered, her expression flat as always. "Both of you are too loud."

They fell silent.

Amon blinked. "…Why did that work?"

Seraphina looked at him. "Because I requested it."

Amon scratched his cheek. "Fair enough."

'Tch! Is this the perk of being top student?'

They approached a stall selling sparkling blue fruit skewers. The vendor smiled brightly. "Lunar Dew Melon! Sweetest in the city!"

Eliana gasped. "Amon, Amon! Look! They sparkle!"

Amon looked at the shining fruits. "Are these edible or am I going to start glowing?"

Eliana elbowed him. "That would be an improvement."

Seraphina picked one up, inspected it calmly, then took a small bite.

Amon watched her. "How is it?"

She blinked slowly. "It tastes like… fruit."

Marcus groaned. "Can you be more descriptive?!"

Aisha grabbed three skewers at once. "Who cares? It's delicious!" Her tail wagged wildly.

Amon was already aware of how much this wolf woman eats. Amon purchased one and took a bite.

His eyes widened. "WOAH! It's like eating sweet snow mixed with honey!"

Eliana nodded proudly. "See? I told you!"

Seraphina stared at her skewer. "…Yes. That is accurate."

After that, they moved toward a transparent crystal bridge arching over a small lake. Light refracted under their feet, scattering rainbow colors.

Eliana twirled on it. "Amon, look! It glows when you step!"

Amon hopped forward. "Whoa, it really does!"

Marcus crossed his arms, pretending to be unimpressed. "Tch. It's just a bridge."

Then he stepped on it.

The bridge lit up bright blue.

Aisha burst out laughing. "HAHA! It glows differently for arrogant idiots!"

Marcus nearly slipped. "SHUT UP!"

Seraphina, walking behind them, quietly said, "Mine is gold."

Everyone stopped.

Amon blinked at her glowing golden footsteps. "Of course it is… you walking halo."

Seraphina looked at him expressionlessly. "I am not glowing."

Amon nodded. "Sure. Whatever you say. Even now you got golden color… like divine torch."

Seraphina's brow twitched while Eliana laughed.

The group reached the famous food street. Scents of spices, grilled seafood, and fried snacks filled the air.

Aisha was in heaven.

She dashed from stall to stall, calling out, "Buy this! And this! AND THIS!"

This time, Amon followed her reluctantly. "Stop running so fast! Damn beast—WAIT, DON'T EAT THAT RAW!"

Eliana and Marcus laughed behind them.

"This beast woman is totally different when it comes to food," Marcus said.

Eliana whispered, "You know, it's been weird between Amon and Aisha. Like I saw her blushing a few times while talking with him. What might be the reason?"

Marcus nodded. "I bet that bastard might have flirted with her as well. Tch!" He clicked his tongue in annoyance.

Seraphina quietly added, "They are actually getting closer in a weird way."

Eliana grinned. "Whoa, Seraphina making observational comments today? That's new."

She looked at her blankly. "I always observe."

Marcus added, "She means she doesn't always talk about it."

Seraphina blinked once. "…Correct."
