The Smiling Death

Chapter 157: Can Amon get what he wants?

The door clicked softly, and Professor Adelia was there.

Dressed in casual clothes for once, she looked very different from the composed healer of the academy infirmary. Her bright green hair fell loosely over her shoulders in soft waves, catching the sun like strands of emerald silk. A few playful locks framed her face, giving her a gentle, relaxed charm.

Her yellow eyes. Warm like sunlight passing through amber crystal, held their usual softness, radiating calm and reassurance. Even without her formal robes, she carried that same gentle aura that made injured students melt with relief the moment she appeared.

She wore a simple but elegant outfit: a fitted cream blouse tucked into dark, comfortable navy trousers that hugged her curvy, mature figure without being flashy. The casual attire only emphasized her natural grace, making her look both approachable and effortlessly beautiful. A thin cardigan hung loosely from her shoulders, fluttering lightly as she moved.

Despite the long day, she exuded a quiet warmth—an air of someone who had spent years healing others, someone whose first instinct was always kindness.

Her yellow eyes observed Amon.

"What happened, Amon? Did you have some problem?" she asked with a worried tone. It was the first day, and here one student had already come to her. Though knowing it was Amon, there were other possibilities as well—which she didn't want to consider.

"Hello, Professor Adelia. Actually, I came here to ask you something." Amon said to her with a small smile. He didn't want to beat around the bush; he would ask her directly. Amon clenched his fist and breathed slowly. He had never asked something like this to anyone before… or maybe he had, but didn't remember. Probably because he got the answer "no."

Adelia tilted her head. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear."What do you want to ask?" Her tone was smooth, calm.

Amon exhaled. His black eyes turned serious.

"Professor Adelia… if you are free… how about going out with me? Wait! I–I mean to explore the city with me."

'Fuck! I nearly used misleading words. Go out with me? Damn!'

The moment Amon completed his words, there was silence.

Adelia didn't say anything. She blinked her eyes a few times. She repeated the words spoken by Amon inside her mind.

Then her cheeks turned warm. A light shade of pink formed on her fair cheeks.

Then she coughed.

Cough!

She masked her embarrassment. Her expression now turned into a stern one. Her one hand rested on her hip while her right hand extended forward.

Amon, who was calmly waiting for an answer, was surprised.

Adelia's soft and smooth hand settled on the outer rim of his left ear. Her thumb and forefinger found the soft, exposed lobe.

Amon flinched. The reason. The intimacy of the punishment, made him flinch.

Then came the correction.

She applied the lightest pressure, twisting the fleshy cartilage just enough to send a sharp, instantaneous flash of pain.

"Ahhh! Professor Adelia! Wait—!" Amon yelped in pain.

"What, professor? You really came to me and asked me on a date? You really are getting brave, Amon." Adelia, for the first time, talked sternly to him.

If it was another time, maybe she would have responded differently. But just some time ago, while talking with her fellow colleagues—or say, her friends—they teased her a lot.

"Oh, I am sorry, professor. I just wanted to spend some time with you in this city. I was not asking for some romantic date." Amon tried to make excuses.

Damn, I always get refused whenever I ask someone out on a date. Amon thought bitterly. So yes, it was not his first time asking someone on a date. But he got refused every time.

Adelia watched Amon's panicked and painful expression. Though it looked more dramatic, as if he was just acting like he was in pain. She didn't even pinch him tightly enough for him to yelp like that.

She released Amon's ear.

"Haha~" A chuckle left her mouth.

"Enough of your act. I didn't even pinch that hard." She shook her head.

Amon rubbed his left ear with a small shameless smile.

"Professor, it actually hurt, you know… by the way, you didn't answer me. Will you accompany me?"

Adelia was again surprised by Amon. This guy was too shameless. She folded her hands under her massive, curvy chest, pushing them up.

She sighed. "You really are weird."

Adelia thought about it. When was the last time someone asked her on a date?

Probably during her academy days. That also she didn't remember clearly. And knowing how overprotective her big brother was, no one dared to flirt or hit on her.

So this was a little fresh for her. What should she do? He was just a boy. Her student. It's not like he was in love with her or anything. After thinking for a while, she made her decision.

"I can't come with you today." She finally gave him an answer.

Hearing her response, Amon felt really sad. 'Dammit'. The number of rejections increased by one.

Adelia watched his face, which became dull after hearing her. Unlike his bright one earlier.

She couldn't see him like that. Well, she wasn't going to refuse anyway. He just became instantly like that after hearing her half-answer. At least let her complete it.

"Hah… I have plans with other professors for today… so I can't accompany you today. But I have free time tomorrow."

She thought, 'What's the big deal about spending time with my student? It's not wrong!'

Just like that, his expression made a one-eighty-degree change. It lit up with excitement and happiness.

"Hehehe~ Thank you, professor! Then we will meet tomorrow!" he told her excitedly.

Hehe. Let's enjoy today's time with friends. He turned around to walk away.

But Adelia stopped him by tugging his collar.

"Wait! Firstly, don't tell anyone about it. Also, most students are going to the beach tomorrow morning. So we will meet at three o'clock in the afternoon. Also… I will message you about the location." For some reason, Adelia really felt embarrassed while talking. It was as if she was really in a secret relationship with Amon.

She pushed those thoughts aside.

Amon listened to her quietly.

"Okay, professor. But do you have my Pager ID?"

Adelia released her hold on him and nodded.

"Of course I have it. I am a professor, we have information of all you students. Now go."

Amon smiled at her widely.

"Bye~ Professor. See you tomorrow."
