My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 251: Going to the Market

The children played for two hours. In the soft dirt, the occasional fall didn't hurt too much. Before long, the babies had turned into messy little mud-caked kids. No wonder there are comparison pictures online of "moms raising kids" versus "grandparents in the countryside raising kids."

It had only been one morning, and that was with Zhang Yuxi supervising them. To still end up like this... it really seems like the environment changes a person!

Hearing it was time to head back, Lin Feng stopped what he was doing. He waved the children over for a quick cleanup.

"Did you have fun today?"

The babies all nodded. "It was fun!"

Lin Feng smiled. "Glad to hear it! Let's go, we're heading back."

Back at the house, he washed the babies' faces and hands and changed their dirty clothes. After getting them all cleaned up, they were once again spotless, beautiful little darlings. Zhang Yuxi also changed into a fresh set of clothes.

Lin Feng was still on cooking duty. By the time the rice was steamed, the stir-fried dishes were ready.

Pan Lei's mother said, "This afternoon, we just need to haul the sweet potatoes back, and then we'll be all done. You'll have to make a few more trips with me."

Jiang Ming smiled. "It's no trouble at all."

"When are you all heading back?" she asked.

Jiang Ming thought for a moment. "We'll rest one more night and leave tomorrow morning."

"Alright."

「Afternoon」

Zhang Yuxi took the babies to play in the mountains. Pan Lei's mother snatched the carrying basket from her.

"Thank you, dear, but Jiang Ming and I can handle these sweet potatoes by ourselves. It won't take many trips. You should take the children for a stroll in the mountains."

Lin Feng brushed the dirt off his clothes and led the children and Zhang Yuxi up the mountain path. The babies' stamina meant they couldn't go too far. It's not like I have three heads and six arms to carry them all down the mountain.

There was nothing particularly special about the mountains in the countryside, but their charm was in the fresh air. Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi followed behind the babies, their eyes filled with happiness as they watched them bounce and skip along the path.

Eventually, the little ones couldn't walk anymore. They settled down on the roadside, picking up small stones to play with.

Ten minutes later, Jiang Ming made a video call to ask where they were. "Keep walking forward until you reach a fork in the road. Turn left and go for about two hundred meters. I'll be waiting there for you with the vehicle."

"Okay."

Jiang Ming was driving a delivery tricycle. "Want to hop on? I can give you a ride around. How about we go check out the town?"

The babies scrambled to get on, each wanting to be first, and Lin Feng lifted them on one by one. The sun was bright, and the scenery along the road was beautiful. Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi sat on either side, keeping the children safely between them. The babies held onto the railings, gazing at the green hills and clear water, absolutely thrilled.

After a ride of nearly half an hour, they arrived in town.

"Mom said there's a street market today and told me to show you around," Jiang Ming said.

The market was bustling, with vendors selling all sorts of things.

"Babies, look over there. What's that?"

It turned out to be an old man weaving small insects from grass, and they looked incredibly lifelike. Si Bao, being the bold one, wasn't scared at all and even leaned in for a closer look. The other babies also crouched down, peering at the crafts with curiosity.

The Eldest asked, "Can they move?"

The old man, with a kind smile and a thick rural accent, held one up. "Don't you worry, child. This one doesn't move. It's not real! See? They're all fake. Do you like them? Have your mom and dad buy one for each of you to play with."

Lin Feng squatted down. "Sir, how much are these?"

"Fifteen yuan each."

Lin Feng bought three for each child, along with six adorable little cages.

The old man looked at the few he had left. "How about you take the rest? These are all I have left. I'll give you a good price, and once they're sold, I can pack up and go home."

"Alright then."

The old man happily packed up his carrying pole and headed home.

Jiang Ming bought three baked sesame seed cakes. "You should try these. They're delicious."

Zhang Yuxi took a bite and found the flavor quite good. Lin Feng thought they were decent as well.

The babies, however, were getting greedy, their eyes fixed on the cakes in the adults' hands.

Si Bao asked, "Dad, Mom, is it good?"

They might as well have been saying, "Don't just eat it by yourselves, we want some too!"

Lin Feng ate the crispy outer crust and gave the soft, filled interior to the babies.

The market was alive with noise and excitement. Lin Feng was very happy; he discovered a sense of familiarity here. It felt like he had returned to his own childhood.

Before they knew it, the family of six had reached the center of the market. They were surrounded by vendors selling farm produce, colorful vegetables, various fruits, and even steamed buns. There were many things Lin Feng recognized from his past but couldn't name, and he couldn't help but feel a wave of nostalgia. He saw an old man pushing a small trolley laden with goods, which reminded him of his own childhood when his father would go to the city for work every day and sometimes bring back tasty treats for him.

The countryside market wasn't very large, and they soon reached the end.

"It's much livelier during the New Year. It's a bit quiet now," Jiang Ming commented.

Lin Feng looked up at the sky. "Let's head back."

「That evening」

After they finished dinner, Lin Feng checked the weather forecast. They had originally planned to leave the next morning, but with rain predicted, they decided to set off that night instead.

As Pan Lei's mother was washing the dishes, Jiang Ming came over with a small stack of money and stuffed it directly into her pocket.

"What are you doing, you silly boy!"

"Mom, you keep this. When we have more money around the New Year, we'll give you more. Please don't think it's too little. We'll definitely give more when we can."

Pan Lei's mother sighed. "We old folks only have our Lei'er. As long as you treat her well, that's all that matters. As for us, we're not so desperate that we need to ask you for money. You two keep it and build a good life together with Lei'er."

"Mom..."

Overhearing the conversation, Lin Feng quietly slipped out into the yard. Pan Lei's father was already loading their car with gifts: oranges, sweet potatoes, peanuts, corn grits, cabbage, and garlic shoots. There were also two large woven sacks filled with freshly harvested rice. In short, they had prepared a share of everything they had for Lin Feng and Jiang Ming.

"These aren't valuable things, just what our farm produces. Please don't mind them! Come back and visit again when you have time!"

As they were about to leave, the sight of the two elderly parents standing in the yard, reluctant to see them go, made Jiang Ming's heart ache. Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi couldn't help but think of their own parents as well.

They set out at eight in the evening and dropped Jiang Ming off at his home by ten-thirty.

Pan Lei, holding a sleeping Jiang Chenchen, said, "Thank you both so much."

Lin Feng whispered, "I should be the one thanking your parents."

Jiang Ming, hoisting the sacks, added, "Drive safely, and send a message when you get home."

"Will do."

Upon returning to the villa, Lin Feng looked at his sleeping wife and children and didn't have the heart to wake them.

"Honey, wake up, we're home."

"Honey?"

Zhang Yuxi stirred. "We're home already?"

"Yes."

The two of them carried the sleeping babies upstairs to bed. Zhang Yuxi went to take a shower, while Lin Feng took the farm products to the kitchen.

Just then, the system's voice sounded in his mind.
