In the blink of an eye, it was Teacher's Day.
Last time, the children and parents had made handmade flowers to express their gratitude. This time, however, the teachers emphasized that while they appreciated the sentiment, there was no need for handicrafts; simply saying, "Happy Teacher's Day," would be enough.
Er Bao was the first to send a voice message in the group chat. "Happy Teacher's Day to Mr. Li, Mr. Zhang, Ms. Tang, and Mr. He!"
Da Bao followed with a message of the same sentiment.
San Bao simply said, "Happy Teacher's Day to all the teachers!"
The teachers all responded, "Thank you for the holiday wishes, kids!"
Soon, the other children in the group followed suit, sending their own voice messages with Teacher's Day blessings.
This afternoon, Lin Feng took his four children out. He first took Er Bao and San Bao to their arts and crafts class, then brought Da Bao and Si Bao upstairs for taekwondo.
"Dad will be downstairs with Er Bao and San Bao," he instructed the older boys. "After your class, have the instructor call me. If I haven't arrived by then, just wait here for a little while, understand?"
Da Bao and Si Bao indicated that they understood.
Lin Feng made sure they had their water bottles and sweat towels. "Drink water when you're thirsty. If your backs get sweaty, ask your instructor for help, or you can help each other out, okay?"
The children nodded, and only then did Lin Feng leave, his mind at ease.
In the arts and crafts class, they were making yarn paintings this time.
"Where are the parents from the pottery class last time? You can come get your work now," the teacher called out. The pieces had already been fired; all that was left was to paint them. "This is the paint," the teacher announced. "You don't need to add water. Just apply it directly!"
She provided three small jars of paint—red, pink, and yellow—and let the children choose for themselves, since some of the boys didn't like pink.
After that, Lin Feng had nothing to do, so he took the opportunity to visit the supermarket on the basement level. Half an hour later, he returned with crayfish, clams, spare ribs, and broccoli. He had a Space Ring, so he only pretended to put the items in his backpack while actually storing them in his spatial storage.
The space contained a family first-aid kit stocked with common medications like those for colds, stomachaches, and coughs, as well as iodine, cotton swabs, and alcohol. He had also prepared a change of clothes for the quadruplets.
He had been back for less than two minutes when Er Bao and San Bao's class ended. Parents entered the room and sat down next to their children. The teacher had selected two designs for the yarn paintings: one similar to Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" and another of an owl. Of the six students, the two girls both chose sunflowers, while the rest chose the owl.
San Bao's sunflower painting was different from the one in the example picture, as well as from the other girl's. She had added some smaller flowers to the vase and included a red apple. This instantly made the entire picture feel richer and more complex.
The procedure was the same as before: the children held up their work and gave a simple presentation to the parents.
Er Bao was as straightforward as ever. "I made an owl. It's active at night, catches mice and snakes, and is very impressive." Well, she had said a few more words than last time.
San Bao took the stage with her artwork. "This is a sunflower, which is also called a sun-plant because it only blooms facing the sun! When it matures, it produces the sunflower seeds we often eat. After the seeds are roasted, they're ready to eat." She then pointed to her addition. "I made this apple because we have an apple tree at home! The apples from our tree are ripe now, and they're especially delicious!"
San Bao's detailed presentation earned her unanimous praise when she stepped down.
The teacher smiled. "I want to give her special praise for this. The apple and the extra flowers were her own idea. It's wonderful that she has her own thoughts!"
Praised like this, San Bao smiled shyly, her little face flushing slightly.
The teacher then added, "Your homework for today is to paint the pink chrysanthemums we made last time. When you're done, have your parents take a photo of the finished piece and send it to me. You can keep it at home as a memento. You can also take today's yarn paintings home with you!"
Lin Feng took Er Bao and San Bao upstairs, where Da Bao and Si Bao had already been waiting for nearly five minutes. Ever since they started taekwondo, they wanted to wear their uniforms constantly. In fact, they would come to class in them and refuse to take them off even after it ended.
Da Bao was quite forthright. "Wow, San Bao's is so pretty, but Er Bao's isn't as good. It's a bit ugly."
If San Bao's style was realistic, then Er Bao's was abstract. Despite the comment, Er Bao really liked San Bao's painting, finding it quite interesting—much more fun than the lump of clay from before.
After they got home, Lin Feng decided to dedicate an entire wall to the children's creations. He also planned to frame them for protection.
The days passed by peacefully. Er Bao began to find more and more joy in her arts and crafts. She had a wonderful imagination, and her teacher gave her high praise.
In the blink of an eye, the long holiday was approaching. San Bao was scheduled to participate in a song and dance gala co-hosted by several educational institutions, with judges invited to attend. This time, San Bao was scheduled to perform three different acts: a piano accompaniment for another girl who would be singing, a violin solo, and a group performance on the drums.
It was San Bao's first time on such a large stage, and she was performing three acts. Lin Feng worried that she might not be able to handle the pressure.
San Bao, however, insisted she would be fine.
Lin Feng asked her seriously, "San Bao, are you really sure? It's not that Daddy doesn't believe in you, I'm just worried it might be too much."
San Bao stated with absolute certainty that she would have no problem at all. Furthermore, her teachers also suggested that if she felt up to it, she should definitely give it a try. Although San Bao appeared delicate and was usually quiet, she possessed her own unique tenacity.
Given the circumstances, the couple decided to let her try. This could be an excellent opportunity for her to grow. For the next week, San Bao practiced under her teachers' guidance, preparing for her stage debut.
A week passed in a flash.
Zhang Yuxi was now on vacation from work. That evening, Lin Feng was ironing San Bao's little suit. The couple was taking this performance very seriously; the entire family would be there to watch her.
The next day, Lin Feng woke up early to make breakfast for the children. Since San Bao had her performance today, they needed to eat lunch, get her to the venue, and then go through makeup and other preparations. This meant lunch had to be finished before noon, after which they would all take a nap before setting out.
When the kids woke up from their nap, it was already twelve-forty. Lin Feng packed their backpacks tightly. With the children in tow, he drove the SUV to the venue, a theater in Yangcheng that several organizations had rented together. They had even distributed coupons allowing parents to bring their children to the show for just 29.9. The theater had four hundred seats, and in addition to the families of the performers, quite a few other people had come, filling about two-thirds of the venue.
Upon arriving and checking in, Lin Feng called San Bao's teacher.
"Yuxi, take the kids and find a place to sit. I'll bring San Bao backstage for her makeup," Lin Feng said. "Call me if you need anything!"
Zhang Yuxi nodded. "Go on. I'll watch the children."
Lin Feng was most concerned about Da Bao and Si Bao. Although their temperaments had mellowed somewhat after a month of taekwondo, they were still children. He worried they wouldn't be able to suppress their natural instincts if they saw something exciting. He gave them a specific instruction, "You two be good, okay? Daddy will be back in a little while, so don't run around!"
Da Bao and Si Bao promised they would.
Lin Feng led San Bao backstage, where her teacher was directing the other children. "San Bao, you're here! Come on, your teacher will take you to get your makeup done!"
Lin Feng followed behind, wanting to stay with San Bao to help her feel secure.
