My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 565: The Black Little Thing

「After dawn.」

Lin Feng woke up on time and started making breakfast. Staying here was just like being at home, essentially a day spent playing indoors.

When the kids got together, they would take out their phones to play games, but only if Xiaobao wasn't around or was already asleep. They hadn't even finished one round when Xiaobao came toddling over, looking for her brother Sibao.

Sibao was right in the middle of an exciting game, but when he heard Xiaobao's voice, he quickly turned off his phone.

"Fourth Brother, Xiaobao wants to play horsey!"

"Okay, okay! Come on, climb on."

Xiaobao rode for a little while before getting bored. She knew Sibao loved to play games on his phone. "Fourth Brother, I want to play something else!"

"What do you want to play?"

"I don't know!"

"How about we draw?"

"No!"

"Then how about we sing? We can sing on the plane, you know."

"No, I want to play games!"

"..."

What a vexing little cutie!

Sibao was at his wit's end. "So what do you want to play?"

"I don't know!"

Sibao carried Xiaobao over to find Erbao, but Erbao didn't have any ideas either. There was nowhere to go on the plane. Normally, if she got bored, they could just take her to an amusement park.

Today was a very boring day for Xiaobao. She pouted unhappily as she followed her brothers around, wanting to play. It was also a day of helplessness for Sibao and the others.

「Finally, after a flight of more than ten hours, they arrived in Boston.」

They put on the winter coats they had prepared in advance and stepped out of the airport into the falling snow. A gust of cold wind made everyone shiver. It was Xiaobao's first time seeing snow, and she happily ran down to play in it. Lin Feng made a mental note. He didn't think he'd ever taken Xiaobao to Hokkaido, so he decided he would take her on the way back.

It was just past five in the afternoon, and the sky was already beginning to darken. They checked into a hotel, and over dinner, they decided to go for a stroll nearby. All the good hotels were already fully booked, and the one Lin Feng had found felt a bit sketchy. He planned to change hotels the next day, so they would just have to make do for tonight. Lin Feng kept all their important belongings in a small bag that he carried with him for safety. After dinner, they went for a walk, and everyone was in high spirits.

They returned to the hotel at nine in the evening. While everyone else went to bed, Lin Feng started planning their itinerary. The top priority for the next day was a visit to MIT, followed by an afternoon shopping trip for a gift for Zhang Yuxi's teacher. Once the plan was set, Lin Feng showered and went to sleep.

Dabao and Sibao were both over 1.8 meters tall, with impressive fighting skills. Lin Feng wasn't worried about his sons, except perhaps for Sanbao. His main focus was on looking after Zhang Yuxi and Xiaobao. Lin Jiajun's family could take care of themselves, of course. However, since An Lan was a woman traveling alone with her two children, Lin Feng arranged for Sibao to stay with them for added security.

For one night, they would just have to make do. Lin Feng had booked the best few rooms the hotel had to offer, and the owner gave them an enthusiastic welcome, explaining that breakfast would be provided, and snacks were available at night. Lin Feng simply smiled in response to the owner's warmth. Before bed, he reminded everyone to lock their doors and windows and to stay vigilant.

Suddenly, a thought occurred to Lin Feng, and he began to inspect the room. A moment later, he was on the phone booking new rooms in the university district, at over four thousand a night. Because the new hotel was far, they promised a car would arrive in forty minutes at the latest. Lin Feng sent a message to the group, telling them to pack their things. They weren't staying here.

The flight hadn't been too tiring, so everyone was still wide awake and energetic. They weren't surprised by Lin Feng's sudden change of plans. After all, they were all traveling with their families, and it was only natural for the safety-conscious Lin Feng to want to switch hotels, even if this one looked decent enough on the surface.

Thirty minutes later, their ride arrived.

After settling everyone into the new vehicles, Lin Feng turned to the driver. "Sorry, I forgot something. Could you please wait for me for a moment?" As he spoke, he handed the driver a few large bills.

The driver accepted the tip with a beaming smile. "No problem, sir."

Lin Feng called Lin Jiajun to come with him, leaving the other man a bit confused. Because Lin Feng hadn't said anything when they left, the hotel owner had no idea they were checking out. When the owner saw him return, he was about to speak, but Lin Feng used an excuse to lure him back to one of the rooms.

Standing in front of the owner, Lin Feng reached into a hidden corner and pulled out a small, black object.

Lin Jiajun's expression changed instantly, and he glared angrily at the owner. Lin Feng's face was grim, his aura turning cold and his gaze sharp.

"We won't be staying here," Lin Feng said, his voice flat. "I'd like a full refund for our rooms."

The owner's lips twitched. "This… this, sir, it's a misunderstanding…"

"I don't have time to waste," Lin Feng stated coolly. "You can either give us a refund now, or I'll call the police. You choose."

Lin Jiajun, ever the slick operator, took out his phone. "I'm calling the police right now. What's the number again? Nine-one-one?"

Lin Feng was speechless.

The owner was about to deny everything, but Lin Feng was already on the phone. Speaking fluent English, he said, "Yes, hello. We've run into some trouble here… that's right…"

As he spoke, Lin Feng casually mentioned, "My children were invited by Harvard and MIT. We're here to check out the environment… Yes, that's correct, I have their documents right here."

While he was on the phone, Lin Jiajun took out the children's invitation letters and showed them to the owner. The man glanced at them and quickly turned to the still-talking Lin Feng. "Alright, alright! It's all a misunderstanding! I'll refund your money right now!"

Lin Feng gestured for Lin Jiajun to handle the transaction while he continued his phone call, making it clear he wouldn't hang up until they had their money back. The owner quickly processed the refund. Seeing this, Lin Feng smiled and spoke into the phone, "It seems the issue has been resolved. Sorry to have bothered you."

He hung up, his face devoid of expression, and left with Lin Jiajun, money in hand.

In the elevator, Lin Jiajun's anger grew. "Since he agreed to the refund, it proves they were behind it," he seethed. "Damn it. We'd better inspect the next place thoroughly. It'd be a sick joke to see ourselves broadcast online."

Lin Feng, meanwhile, was already sending an anonymous report to the police via email.

Back in the car, Zhang Yuxi couldn't think of anything they might have forgotten. Seeing Lin Feng return empty-handed, she asked, "What did you leave behind?"

Lin Feng just smiled. "I'll tell you later!"

Two luxury vans from the new hotel had arrived to pick them up.

"Look, that's our hotel," Lin Feng said.

The building was illuminated with blue lights, and from across the river, it looked stunning against the shimmering water. The hotel's atmosphere was, of course, exceptional. Because of the holiday rush, Lin Feng had booked several of the best suites available. It was a four-star hotel, very close to both Harvard and MIT—only 1.2 kilometers from MIT and just under 3 kilometers from Harvard.

After checking in, they found that their rooms' massive floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view of the Charles River and the Boston skyline. The price was definitely worth it.

Xiaobao had woken up by the time they arrived. Standing before the window, she gasped, "Wow! So pretty! Mommy, Daddy, it's so pretty!"

Zhang Yuxi walked over to her. "It is beautiful! Do you like it, Xiaobao?"

"Xiaobao likes it! Does Mommy like it?"

"I love it!"

Xiaobao toddled over to her father. "Does Daddy like it?"

"I do."

Lin Feng finished putting their things away and picked up a brochure from the bedside table. The hotel's gym featured a whirlpool spa, a sauna, a steam room, a sun terrace, and a 23-meter heated pool under a retractable glass roof. It also offered live entertainment and international cuisine for all meals, with a seafood buffet on Fridays and a special brunch on Sundays.

"Honey," Zhang Yuxi said, "tell me what you and Jiajun were really up to just now."

"Just getting something we forgot," Lin Feng replied evasively. He didn't want to tell her and ruin the mood of their trip. It was the first time he'd ever encountered something like that, after all.

Zhang Yuxi didn't believe him for a second. After so many years of marriage, did he think she couldn't tell when something was up? But if her husband didn't want to talk about it, she wouldn't press him.

In the other room, Wang Lu was asking Lin Jiajun the same question. He, too, decided not to spoil her mood with the sordid details. He just hoped their room hadn't been bugged, but thankfully, they hadn't gone to sleep in it.

Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi's room was a 79-square-meter suite. It offered services like in-room massages, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, room service, and a safe large enough for a laptop.

"This hotel wasn't even here when I was in school!" Zhang Yuxi remarked.

Having had her fun, Xiaobao wanted to see the other rooms. Dabao and Sibao were sharing one. Lin Jiajun, Wang Lu, and their youngest son were in another. An Lan and her two children had a third room, while Erbao and Sanbao shared a fourth. Xiaobao ran from room to room, causing a happy commotion in each, before finally returning to her parents' suite and falling sound asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.

"Honey, I'm going to take a shower," Lin Feng said.

It was a simple sentence, but Lin Feng knew how to load it with suggestion.

Zhang Yuxi blushed and pretended not to hear him.

When Lin Feng went into the bathroom, he discovered the bathtub was enormous...
