Miss Shepherd does not die in the Mysterious World

Ch. 48

Chapter 48: Beautiful Times Always Come to an End

Saturday morning.

With the ringing of the bell, the end of the week's schoolwork was announced for a brief moment.

“Well then, that's all for today's class.”

Ridel organized the textbook in his hand, then knocked on the desk, preparing to leave.

Just then, a student raised their hand and called out to him.

“Mr. Ridel.”

Hearing this, Ridel stopped in his tracks and turned his head to look at the student with a smile.

“Is something wrong, student?”

“I want to know when Miss Catherine is coming back.”

The female student said.

“Well.... sorry, I'm not very familiar with Miss Catherine.”

Ridel thought for a moment, then shook his head.

“But I think it should be soon.”

He let out a light chuckle and said meaningfully.

“After all, according to the teaching schedule, it seems I only have a few days left to substitute for you. Maybe after this month ends, I won't be coming back.”

As soon as these words were spoken, the classroom immediately erupted in an uproar.

“Doesn't that mean there are only ten days left?”

A student said.

“I'll be a little sad to see Mr. Ridel go.”

“I'll be a little sad to see you all go too.”

Ridel said with a smile.

“It's just a pity that beautiful times always come to an end. Although I won't be able to witness your journey to the end, at least before we part, I will do my best until the very last moment.”

Ridel's words caused a slight commotion in the classroom.

The students talked in low voices, some with regretful expressions on their faces.

Vilnia and I exchanged a glance, a complex emotion flashing in both our eyes.

Ridel's sentence seemed to be announcing the fact of his imminent departure, but from another perspective, it also indicated that the Omniscience Society's preparations were likely in their final stages.

Ridel scanned the classroom, that gentle smile still on his face.

“Alright, students. Since it's Saturday, I won't take up any more of your time. I wish you all a happy weekend.”

After speaking, he turned and left the classroom.

As the door was gently closed, the atmosphere in the classroom instantly became relaxed.

The students began to pack their schoolbags, talking and laughing as they prepared to leave.

But Vilnia and I didn't move.

We tacitly waited for the other students to leave.

Finally, only the two of us were left in the classroom.

“Vilnia, are you ready?”

I asked in a low voice.

“Let's go.”

Vilnia nodded slightly.

We got up and left the classroom, pretending that nothing was wrong.

In the hallway, other students were excitedly discussing their weekend plans.

No one noticed the two girls' slightly nervous expressions.

We went to the library and sat down, casually picking up a book to pretend to study, but were actually observing our surroundings in secret.

As time passed, the number of people in the library gradually dwindled.

After a while, we saw the librarian get up and walk towards us.

“Little girls, you should leave now.”

The librarian said softly.

“You shouldn't stay in the library for too long, school is already over.”

“But ma'am, we'd like to study a little longer.”

I raised my head and said.

“We've already told our families, is that not okay?”

“Sorry, little girl.”

The librarian shook her head with difficulty.

“If it were a normal day, it would be fine, but you're out of luck, the library is undergoing maintenance today. Later on, workers will be moving in new bookshelves, so we have to close early today. But if you'd like, you can borrow a few books to take home, how about that?”

“Mm.... then never mind.”

I thought for a moment, then said with a smile.

“It's okay, coming back next week is the same.”

Saying that, I stood up and looked at Vilnia beside me.

“Let's go, Vilnia.”

“Mm.”

Vilnia nodded and returned the borrowed book to its original place.

“Then we'll be leaving now.”

“Be careful on your way, girls.”

We nodded slightly, then turned and left the library.

And after we left, the librarian also got up, left, and locked the library's main door.

After the librarian left, Vilnia and I emerged from the shadows.

We looked left and right, and after making sure no one was around, Vilnia leaned against the wall, and the shadow at her feet began to stir.

—Shadow Trick!

Vilnia's shadow slipped through the crack of the door into the library.

After a search, it slowly retracted.

“There's no one else inside.”

Vilnia looked at me and said.

“We can begin.”

“Mm, I understand.”

I nodded slightly, then tossed a copper coin, and immediately extended my hand to Vilnia.

“Hold my hand tight.”

Hearing this, Vilnia looked at me, somewhat flattered, then reached out and took my hand.

Fingers intertwined.

“?”

I tilted my head.

“This way we can hold on tighter.”

Vilnia smiled, her thumb beginning to restlessly trace the purlicue of my hand.

Seeing this, I was a bit helpless, but in the end, I only gave a reminder: “Don't let go no matter what happens in a moment. Otherwise, you might get lost in The Void.”

“Don't worry, even if you didn't say it, I wouldn't let go.”

Vilnia smiled.

“Alright, I'm starting.”

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and then activated Void Walk.

In Vilnia's eyes, the surrounding air began to twist and deform.

Reality started to become illusory and overlapping, like two hazy paintings superimposed on each other.

A low humming sound rang in her ears, as if from a distant time and space.

Vilnia felt a wave of dizziness and subconsciously tightened her grip on Mel's hand.

The next moment, their figures completely disappeared from the hallway

The moment she entered The Void, Vilnia found that she had lost almost all sensation.

A sense of helpless despair and fear washed over Vilnia's heart—she couldn't feel anything, nor could she see anything.

It was as if everything in this world had disappeared, be it the sky or the land.

Only she was left, falling helplessly, with no idea when the moment of landing would come.

Here, not only time, but everything seemed to have lost its meaning.

Only her right hand seemed to still be holding onto something.

So warm.

By the time she opened her eyes again, she found that she was already standing inside the library.

In the dim space, bookshelves were neatly arranged, and the air was filled with the scent of paper and ink.

“Is this what Void Walk feels like....”

Vilnia couldn't help but say.

“It feels so....”

“Special?”

“No.”

Vilnia shook her head gently, gazing into my amber eyes, and said softly:

“Empty.”

As she spoke, her grip on my hand suddenly tightened.

It was as if she was afraid I would suddenly disappear.

“The first time is always the hardest to get used to,” I comforted her gently, “You'll get used to it.”

Looking at Vilnia's emotionally complex eyes, I was a little surprised.

It was the first time I had ever seen Vilnia like this.

In my mind, Vilnia had always been the strong personality type, but I never expected her to have such a side.

So fragile.

So much so that it makes one want to.... tease her a little.

I swallowed unconsciously.

Like Columbus discovering the New World.
