The guard clearly told us to turn back, but the claw machine could not lie. I was sure that this guard was trying to hide something.
Leo guessed that much as well, and he angrily took a step toward the guard.
"You little shit–!"
He almost grabbed the guard before I caught his arm. This was the privileged area, and too many rich and influential people lived here. These guards were highly respected as well.
Chances were, if we caused a scene, then we would be banned from entering this place. And I did not want it to happen. Our chances to be able to look around for Luna would decrease by a lot.
But unlike me, Leo was not in a state to think rationally. He immediately turned around to give me a betrayed look for stopping him.
"Shopkeeper, what are you doing–?"
He asked, but I just gave him a sharp look that grounded him and made him look away. Finally, he was behaving like he should.
I turned to look at the impatient guard who was looking at me and Leo with a suspicious look in his eyes. I flashed the guard a small and carefree smile.
"Don't worry about my companion so much, guard. He's just a little tense because his sister decided to run away from home. Please forgive him for behaving this recklessly."
The guards still did not look convinced, but they decided not to ask more. These words also left a bitter taste in my mouth when I spoke them.
Theo kept huffing as he watched the guards leave. But the guards were never out of our sight fully. They clearly did not trust us.
"Leo, I know you want to rampage around and find your sister as soon as possible, but making the local police our enemy won't help us. For now, let's follow the map."
I told Leo, and he took in a deep breath. His eyes slowly calmed down, and he gave me a nod of agreement.
We walked around slowly, and my attention remained on the guards who followed after us as well. We had been marked as 'suspicious' people.
There was not much we could do about that, so I just followed the map closely before we ended up near a mansion right in the middle of the area.
Luna was being held in there at the moment.
Guards were stationed all over the place, and I doubted they would allow us to head in and grab Luna as we pleased. So the only way to successfully go in would be to force our way through.
Leo likely reached the same conclusion I did, but unlike me, he was not going to second-guess his decision, and he rushed toward the gate.
His angry expression made the guards suspicious, and they immediately blocked our way even before we reached them.
"Leo, don't be that angry or we will never be able to get through. Why don't you let me handle these people?"
I asked, and Leo struggled to get himself under control. He was clearly not happy with my decision. But for the sake of his sister, he decided to comply.
I breathed a sigh of relief once I noticed that he was obedient and walked toward the guards instead.
"Excuse me, but I need to visit the lord of this mansion. Can you ask them if we can enter?"
I asked the guard, and a few of them exchanged a glance. Then, the head guard turned to look at me with an almost annoyed expression.
"Do you have an entry permit? Or an invitation? We have strict instructions to not let anyone in without those two things."
The guard denied our request, and I had a feeling this would happen. Those who were trying to hide Luna won't make it easy for us.
"Shopkeeper, let's stop being polite. I will show them–"
Leo stepped forward, but I raised my arm to stop him. For now, I had one more trick up my sleeve, and that trick arrived not too late.
"Oh–! Am I late? Have you already started investigating the mansion, shopkeeper? Then, allow me to help as well."
General Henry walked toward me and the guards. His presence pushed the guards to become agitated, but they knew not to make any sudden actions.
"Welcome, Officer Henry. And thank you for helping us out with our investigation today."
I told him, and he just smiled at me in his knowing manner. The guards who watched this play out looked uncomfortable.
"You cannot just come here and try to investigate us like that! There are proper procedures for this. There is paperwork and also–"
"I have a search permit signed by the Duchess herself. Are you still going to keep sprouting nonsense? Now, step aside before I make you."
Henry threatened, and the guards had no choice but to step aside and allow us to enter.
I took the first step as Henry cleared the way for me. All this time, the guards continued to glare at me. But there was nothing they could do about either me or the situation.
We had not gone too far when Leo paused and froze. He looked around, and then his eyes widened.
"I can feel Luna's presence around us. I will try and track her down."
He told us before he started walking unconsciously. It almost felt like he could sense Luna's presence.
'Is this some kind of power siblings have? Even Nyx and Erebus sometimes feel like they know too much about each other. I guess that is something I will never know for sure.'
I never had any siblings, nor was I ever close to another person to call them a sibling. So I could not understand the feeling of sensing someone else in this intimate manner. I felt a little jealous, but a lot more curious.
Leo, who was unaware of my thoughts, continued to move around in order to find his sister. And his search led us toward the main mansion.
