Mecha Devourer System

Chapter 170: Mission Begins (II)

As he walked through the streets of Lorianor at night, he began to notice a couple of anomalies.

For one, the streets were unusually silent.

Actually, it was absolutely quiet.

There was no one walking the streets, the gates were locked tight, and there were no lights in the house.

It gave everything a grave feeling, as if in a warning of a bad premonition.

What's more, most of the light poles were no longer functioning as he walked deeper into Lorianor.

They had been riddled with bullets, and some were crushed in, clearly the work of humans.

Like someone had wanted to keep the street dark and devoid of light.

According to the Taxi driver, the fight was between the local thugs in the area and a large organization.

This happens many times.

Cases of companies bringing a project, maybe building one of their bases or an estate into a local area, only to be barred by the local thugs in the area, who will claim to own the land, or this being their "father's land," and hence, asking the companies to pay them a fee.

Despite their intimidating appearance, they rarely caused real trouble.

A small reward from the estate builder or company usually kept them satisfied.

If not, they'd loot the structures, but if rewarded, they served as guards, making sure operations continued smoothly.

How such a simple thing that happens every day had become such a huge thing, as houses getting reduced to rubble and gunshots filling buildings was beyond him.

Most likely, the local thugs had killed one of the workers, making them respond with full force, or the company ended up killing one of the local thugs instead of paying up.

That was most likely the reason for such a crazy fight.

If he wanted to stop the battle in a blink, Everlearn had an idea, and it was simple, really.

Go around, round up all the thugs, and kill them all.

Then, the company could build its project with no problem.

The locals may feel angry, but when they remember how all of the thugs had been killed, they'd swallow their grievances, and things would eventually die out.

But that wasn't a method Everlearn wanted.

It was too harsh.

Besides, looking at his watch, there were a couple of Guardian Codes that X Guardians' missions must follow.

One of those codes speaks against massively killing ordinary humans.

And speaking of massively, killing five civilians at once would automatically cause a mission to fail.

The X Guardian could be penalized, hence losing authority, having their ranking points deducted, and in extreme cases, being banned from missions entirely.

Besides, if a Corer kills a human and gets discovered, he or she can get in legal trouble with the CHO, a military force that regulates the Corer and fights for human protection.

Senseless killings from a Corer will usually end with him getting killed brutally in return.

And even though he wasn't scared of the CHO, he still couldn't see himself having the soul of a man in his hands.

So the first way was out of the window.

The second approach was to arrange a truce between the company and the thugs to cease hostilities.

This is the obviously more reasonable way, though he had to say it would be much slower.

Many buildings had been damaged, and several thugs and organization members were reported dead.

It would be hard for them to swallow their grievances, but they wouldn't fight until eternity, would they?

Eventually, a truce would have to happen. All he needs to do is bring that time frame forward to two days from now.

Two days: That was all he planned to give to this mission before he focused on why he was here, and he didn't plan to fail.

So, what were his plans to bring about the truce?

Everlearn continued deeper into Lorianor Street, and he came across what had been the big problem.

The organization.

It was an incomplete building, very humongous, built right at the end of Elianor Street on a wide expanse of land.

The gate had been knocked off its hinges, and one could see burnt tires in the company grounds from very far away.

Work on the structure had come to a halt.

As Everlearn walked further inside, he saw a couple of thugs hiding in nearby buildings, probably keeping an eye on things.

They had not noticed him, and he continued his walk until they did.

PAH!

The sound of a local bullet being fired echoed just a meter before Everlearn's feet, stopping him in place, and he turned to the building where the local guards were hiding, finding three of them with guns in hand, pointed at him.

"You, one of them bloody company rats, yh!"

"Answer me, or I fire you to hell, you bloody rat!"

They threatened, and Everlearn almost laughed, though he kept his chill, pulling down his hoodie.

"Me not one of them bloody company rats. Me, a good Lorianor son, feel me?" he said in the same accent that instantly stopped them in place.

"Then wut you doing at the company gate? You bad boy trying to snitch on your papa land, ey?"

"Me right, huh, ey!" They shouted cocking their guns aggressively.

"Nah, nah. Me ain't that. Me just get back to my auntie, ya know."

"She tellie me them bloody company done try to force their way in, blast everything apart."

"She didn't want me out, so me wait for night, when she sleep, then come out like a real bad man to face them, you feel me, yeh?"

His words seemed to convince the thugs, who stared at each other, whispering a couple of words before they turned back to him.

"Hey, Rahsta, open the gate and let him in," one thug called to another.

Everlearn watched as the iron door on one side of the building was quickly pushed open."

║A little bit of good accent, and an excuse, and they allowed you in!? Tsk, how dumb are they? ║

'They're not stupid. I simply copied the only thing they trust, their accent, something that should've taken years to imitate, in three seconds.'

'Perks of having intelligence stats on a ridiculous level.'
