Mecha Devourer System

Chapter 187: Working Together? (I)

"Sounds like you feel...helpless."

He said, in a low voice, and she giggled.

"Many of us are," Sara replied.

"As much as we have enough rage to run through an army of Nakros at any time of the day."

"Unfortunately, we don't even have the potential to be allowed to meet one, and in such a scenario, we would be nothing but cannon fodder."

She said, and Everlearn hummed quietly.

'When did I start to forget?' Everlearn thought quietly, his eyes settling on his hands.

'I also was once as helpless as she was, and will most likely be if not for the system.'

"So, the rage eventually dies out, huh?" He said, and she nodded.

"Yes. Time eventually heals everything." Sara said, before a glint crossed through, and she smiled, saying,

"Besides, now that I think about it, I feel like my Dad would have wanted me to do something else."

"Do something else?"

"Yeah. Maybe becoming a High Grade Information Tech Graduate, compared to running through an army of Nakros only to get unceremoniously killed in the end."

"A High Grade Information Tech Graduate?" He asked, looking at her, and she nodded.

"You don't look much older than I am though. When did you graduate?"

"Two months ago. How many years old are you?" She asked curiously, and he crossed his hands.

"You can't say?" She said, and he nodded.

"I get it, hahaha. I'm 21, by the way."

She said, and he was speechless.

Though she looked about 19, she was actually 21, far older than her appearance suggested.

"Nice. I'm 17."

He replied, and she froze, but then laughed.

"You don't have to lie if it's a secret, you know."

"Do I look that old?" He said, and now her jaw really fell.

"You... you really are 17!?"

"Wow. You look so much older than that." She said, before her expression morphed into one of caution.

"What?"

He asked.

"I don't know. I'm just wondering what the chances of getting in trouble with the SX Organization are for having a 17-year-old alone in the same house."

She said, her face reddening, and Everlearn was speechless for a while.

He had also been cautious about that when she had asked him if he would leave if she said so.

But with him being 17 and her 21, she could technically face consequences as well.

"Don't worry. I'm just waiting for things to cool down, and I'll leave."

He said, and she paused before nodding quietly.

"I guess it must be hard outside now, being a Corer." She said, all of a sudden, as she took a sip of his coffee.

"Hard?"

"Yes. The Nakros Invasion has only been spiraling up ever since, with most of the E-grade and D-grade cities completely overtaken by Nakros, and they don't seem to be stopping anytime soon." She said, and Everlearn was lost for words.

She noticed and asked, "Did I say something wrong?"

"No. It's just... humans aren't supposed to know much about the Corer World, and that includes the real span of the war's destruction."

He explained.

Humans are helpless.

If the Government informs them of cities being overtaken rapidly, as she knows, it would only create mass panic.

So the government hides that information, telling humans it's alright, while pressuring the Corers with information.

At least, some of the Corers.

But she seems to know everything.

"I am a High Infotech Graduate, remember?"

She said with a 'you know' grin.

"Pretty sure you're getting info from a dark Corer Net not allowed for humans."

He said, and she shrugged.

"It's illegal, true."

"But I'm not doing any harm with the information nor even using the information for anything that could affect the war, so it's pretty much fine if you think about it."

"I'm only telling you because you're a Corer, and I assume you are already aware."

She explained, and Everlearn nodded, but he couldn't help noting that her assumption that all Corers already knew of the war was completely wrong.

Many like him were not aware yet, including all the students at X Guard Academy.

It was safe to say the news had only been shared with those who could make an impact in the war: powerful Corers like Boss Ash or those above V-grade.

'But, I did create the Light Guard Mecha and Nakros Buster Mech, hoping to make a change in the war.'

'Now that my revenge is settled, my next focus should be getting aware of the current state of things, which I'm not, but her?'

A couple more thoughts and a realization quickly occurred to Everlearn.

"You said you are a High Infotech Graduate, knowledgeable about the current state of the war, right?" He asked, and she nodded.

"But you're also helpless and can't really affect the state of things in the war."

"I'm not calling you weak or anything, of course." He said, and she shrugged it off.

"You're right, even if you are. But I feel like you're trying to get to something..." She said.

"I have power." He said, leading her to pause.

"I wish to make a change in the war, and I have enough power to do that, but... I don't have information, or where to really start or do next." Everlearn said, continuing, "I planned to get it after this, but seeing that you already have it."

"I'm thinking..."

"We work together!?" She completed.

"It's just an idea. I'm sure you must have something more important to..."

"I don't." She said, as he paused.

"Even though I graduated two months ago, and received more than twelve invitations from companies."

"I accepted none of their request." She said, and he asked,

"Why?"

"Because I only want to work for something that will make an impact."

"And right now, the things that make the most impact on our life are not product information like the companies that want me, want me for, but the war that is destroying millions of lives."

"That is why I wanted to join a company that would use the information I provide to positively impact the war, but…"

"That is only possible by joining a Corer organization, and their requirement for recruitment includes being a Corer, something I am not."

"So in a way, I am..."

"Stuck?"
