Mecha Devourer System

Chapter 193: Everlearn's Morality Type (I)

If all that was needed was a passcode, then he had to get it from a personnel of the TFC base, just like he had done with Sir Lontan.

Once they got a suitable username and password. They could get the identity information of the person they needed, and getting to him/her then would be easier.

The difficult part was infiltrating the TCF Base.

After all, it was not just an organization that limited outsiders like Mechara.

It was a full military base, acting as a branch of power force that held most powerful Corer Associations of Nvidia.

"Do you, uh, have someone you know in TCF in Kuwait?"

Sara asked him, and he shook his head, replying:

"Not really."

"So you plan to go in...illegally!?"

She asked, with emphasis on the last word.

"I'll just ask them, and hopefully they give it to me…" He said, and Sara slowly shook her head.

"I am not sure you are aware of the punishment reserved for those who trespass on a military base."

"And definitely pretty sure you are not aware of just what a TCF military base really is, nor what the punishment for illegal entrance is."

"Do I need to know that?" He asked, and he watched her turn to her computer.

"The last illegal entrance to a TCF Base was reported 10 years ago, done by a group of protesters during the SRS Incident."

"According to the info, that was the last the world heard of the total of 10 protesters who had climbed the wall in."

"There was no sight of them coming out ever, no court case, no news of what happened."

"They just 'faded out of thin air,' as one commentary said, and the government never said anything about it."

"That sounds frightening..." Everlearn mused.

"Also, this is not the first or only case."

"Just being close to the TCF Base without a permit can lead to jailing of trespassers for an indefinite amount of time, determined not by any rule but by the TCF themselves."

"They are a group above the law, caring nothing for the judicial system or the government."

She read off the monitor, turning to Everlearn.

"Seriously, even if our end aim is for the good of humanity, I still do not think it is a good idea to cross them at all."

"It is better we leave it at this, or find another city that is easier…"

She suggested, and Everlearn hummed before asking,

"So, what happens to the people imprisoned in Tale City then?"

"What are their chances of survival if no one interferes and everything is left in the control of the government?"

He asked, and Sara fell silent.

Their chances of survival...She knew it was as good as zero.

The government would never make it.

Tale City was not an important city, and the risk of taking it back was simply too great.

They could put that same risk into getting back the important cities and would easily get two back instead of a single unimportant Grade E city.

That meant all those trapped at Tale could do nothing but blame their own bad luck for why the devil decided to spawn them in that place.

"Seems like there is no changing then?" Sara asked, and Everlearn nodded.

In the next moment, she turned.

"Good. Then I'll focus on trying to get as much info on the TCF Base in Huwait."

"Backdoors, mode of operation, difficulty of infiltration."

She recited aloud, and he watched her fingers move rapidly over the keyboard, interfaces for downloads appearing on the monitor in quick succession.

║She took that in quite fast. Quite exceptional.║

The system panel flashed, surprised, but it wasn't the only one.

Even Everlearn was amazed.

She was a human and a woman.

Anyone like that would have continued trying to convince him otherwise.

But the second he had given his affirmation, instead of whining or trying to dissuade him further, she had immediately turned back to focusing on getting as much info as he needed for successful infiltration.

'I knew she had more flames in her than I do.'

He thought quietly.

If someone had ever told him that finding a way to reduce the casualties caused by the Nakros Invasion would require him to work with an ordinary human…

He would have said that was stupid.

But with how easily she absorbed information, formed plans, and quickly acted on things that could further their progress…

Working with a human now seemed like the right option.

But as he looked at her working diligently away, the light in his eyes soon dimmed as he sank into the seat.

A thought crossed his mind, one he had been pushing away due to his failure to produce an answer:

___

'But… why am I so fixated on saving those imprisoned in Tale City?'

___

'For as long as I remember, I have never really wanted to be a hero, nor was I ever passionate about heroes.'

'The media sometimes displays images of Corers performing superhuman feats to save the world, but I can still remember vividly.'

Everlearn thought quietly, looking at the white wall to the side, its line of light flickering softly with a red colour.

'I hate Corers.'

And in a world where only Corers could be heroes…

'I hate heroes.'

It was the absolute truth.

When he was younger, he had indeed seen many superhuman feats performed on TV, displaying the power of Corers.

Maybe there was a time he had looked up to the idea of carrying a crashing airplane or stopping a train from flying off a shattered track, just like the Corers were portrayed.

Every child did right?

But ever since he had learned he was an FFF Grade who would never amount to anything in power, he had hated them all.

'Power is barbaric and brings more harm than good. Knowledge is the true key.'

He did not know where he had read that phrase, but it had shaped the majority of his life...until Mecha Eva tore it apart, along with a scythe through his skull.

From her, he had been taught brutally that power rules all.

That power he had gained a bit of now.

But why…

Why was he now trying to do the same thing he once loathed in the past?
