My unbelievable life with CATS (Con and Thief system)

Chapter 48: Everything changes now

After the doctor came out, Dylan and Amy immediately approached him. The doctor then explained that Aaron needed to be hospitalized because his calf had a knife stab wound and his ankle was sprained, so it needed to be put in a cast. The bruises on his face from the beating were not serious and could be treated at the same time.

"Alright, Doctor, I'll take care of the paperwork," Dylan said.

"Very good. We'll run checks on other areas. After that, he'll be moved to an inpatient room," the doctor replied.

"And how are the others, Doctor?" Dylan asked.

"The two women with him are fine. They only suffered minor injuries from being hit on the back and shallow knife scratches on their arms," the doctor answered.

"Alright, Doctor. Please take good care of them," Dylan replied.

"Very well, I'll head back to my office now. If you'd like to go in, please do," the doctor replied.

"Thanks, Doctor, thank you," Dylan replied.

Without further delay, Dylan and Amy immediately went inside. They found Aaron lying in a cubicle with a battered face. Dylan immediately sat down next to Aaron's bed. Of course, Aaron looked at Dylan and extended his fist to Dylan, who immediately bumped it.

"How are you doing? Everything okay?" Dylan asked.

"Yeah, but it looks like I won't be able to go to school for a while. The doctor said my leg needs treatment," Aaron answered.

"I'm so sorry, Aaron," Amy replied, hugging Aaron from the other side of the bed.

"It's okay, Amy. My goal was to save Clara. She was kidnapped at school. I followed them and got caught... so this is actually my own fault, not yours, Amy," Aaron replied.

"Even so, you still got involved in my problem," Amy countered.

"We're family, Amy. Family has to help each other, hehe," Aaron said, joking to prevent Amy from crying.

"See, you don't need to worry about it anymore, Amy," Dylan added.

"Y-yeah, I get it," Amy replied.

"Hey Aaron, please keep what you saw in the warehouse a secret, okay?" Dylan replied.

"Yeah, sure... so, you're following in Grandpa's footsteps, Big Brother," Aaron replied.

Dylan's head felt like it had been struck by lightning. He immediately looked at Amy, who was also staring at him, stunned. The smile vanished from Dylan's face. Then he looked back at Aaron.

"Y-you know?" Dylan asked.

"Of course I know, Big Brother. I've read newspaper clippings about Phantom Cat, and that name is being mentioned again... more specifically, about taking a gem from the museum... right when Fiona and Iris were there for a field trip and were clearly in danger. Then you suddenly have a lot of money and plan to renovate the house... it doesn't make sense if you're not Phantom Cat," Aaron answered, smiling with a look that seemed to say, "You're a thousand years too early if you think you can fool me."

Dylan was silent. He looked at his younger brother, who was clearly smarter than him and also inherited their grandfather's blood.

"Okay... okay... but please keep it a secret from Lena, Ellie, Maya, and especially Fiona and Iris... got it?" Dylan asked.

"Roger that, Big Brother. Just trust me," Aaron replied proudly.

"Um... and please keep what I did, shooting that guy, a secret too, okay?" Amy added.

"Definitely, Amy. Don't worry," Aaron replied, looking at Amy and smiling.

Suddenly, "sreek," the curtain opened. Clara, who was already wearing a hospital gown and had her arm bandaged, entered, then ran past Amy and immediately hugged Aaron. Of course, Dylan and Amy were shocked to see this. Aaron looked flustered, and his face was bright red.

"Um... where's Aunt Melissa?" Amy asked.

"She's still resting. I'm sorry, Big Brother Dylan, Big Sister Amy, I just came in like this," Clara said, turning to look at Dylan and Amy but still hugging Aaron, whose face was now completely red.

"Are you two officially dating?" Dylan asked.

Clara's face immediately turned completely red, and she looked away, avoiding Dylan's gaze. Then she instantly let go of Aaron. After that, both Aaron and Clara looked stiff, like two people who were enemies. "Nudge," Amy elbowed Dylan, who had moved next to her. Dylan immediately realized he had ruined the mood.

"Oops... sorry," Dylan replied.

"I-it's okay, Big Brother," Aaron stammered.

"Y-yes, Big Brother, don't worry," Clara added, stammering.

"Okay, I'm gonna step out now. I need to take care of the administration. Clara, please watch Aaron, with Amy," Dylan said.

"Y-yes, Big Brother," Clara replied.

"Wait... I'm coming with you," Amy replied, pulling Dylan's arm.

"Huh... why?" Dylan asked, confused.

"I'll explain later, come on."

Amy immediately pulled Dylan out of the cubicle and then walked out of the emergency room. After walking down the corridor, Dylan asked Amy,

"Hey... why are you pulling me like this?" Dylan asked.

"Babe, please, let me pay for their medical treatment," Amy answered.

"Huh? You mean? You want to pay for everything?" Dylan asked, shocked.

"Yes, please let me. If not, I won't be able to forgive myself," Amy answered.

"But do you have the money? You live alone and don't work, right?" Dylan asked.

Amy was silent for a moment and stopped walking. Then she turned around to face Dylan behind her and leaned her face close to Dylan's ear.

"Actually, after my grandfather died a month ago, he left me a substantial amount of money. It's not the family's main fortune, but enough to let me live comfortably on my own. My grandfather knew that someday I'd be targeted by many branch families, and he probably knew I would run away from home," Amy whispered.

"Oh, I see," Dylan replied.

"That night... when you called, I was the one who rented the hotel and paid for it because Ellie, Maya, and Lena didn't have the money at the time. I was also the one who bought the drug to knock you out... I'm sorry... I was actually the one who suggested they trap you because I knew you wouldn't budge with normal methods... I proved that by coming to the bookstore every day while you worked," Amy said.

Dylan gasped. It turned out what CATS said was true. Then he put his hands on Amy's shoulders and smiled.

"I already knew about the trap, but I didn't know you intended to get pregnant by going to a sperm bank and doing artificial insemination," Dylan said.

"You knew all that?" Amy asked, shocked.

"It was on the whiteboard at Ellie's house... everything was detailed by Ellie because she was the one who knew I had donated sperm, right?" Dylan asked.

"Y-yes, that's right," Amy replied, shocked and resigned to being caught.

"Okay, if you really want to pay, but I won't let you hand over all of it. Let me participate in paying too, okay? Maybe a 70-30 percent split?" Dylan asked.

"A-aren't you mad?" Amy asked.

"What's the point of being mad? Everything's already happened, right? Time can't be rewound. Now we just enjoy it," Dylan answered casually.

"Thank you, babe, I love you," Amy replied, jumping up and hugging Dylan. Then Dylan glanced at Amy and smiled.

"I was mad at first... but at the time, it was because I felt trapped and dizzy. After thinking it over many times... living like this isn't bad, and I really want a family... Besides, you girls are the prettiest and most popular girls at school... so even if I have a short life, maybe killed by a former schoolmate who is about to be an alumnus or die carrying out my duties as Phantom Cat, I'm ready... thanks, Grandpa. Your glasses are actually useful," Dylan muttered to himself.
