"What the hell is going on?" Vasconcelos asked while the building shook violently.
"I don't know. But we should move." Job said. "Let's retreat. Back to the garage. Extraction point A. Let's get back to the park. Bring the man-child. Move, move, move!" The Major ordered referring to Douglas, the guild leader of the Howling Spear.
"There's no time." Matthew said with a sorrowful smile. "We're going up." He said having already experienced that feeling. It was the same as he was abducted to hell in the Saint Helen Hospital. "Can you jump?"
"From this height?" Mara asked him.
"Yeah." Matthew said.
"Christopher is an Aeromancer." Job said pointing to one of his men. "Can you cushion our fall?"
"Yes. I can't make us all fly, but I can manage to make us fall slowly." Christopher said.
At this point the building creaked and turned sideways making them all be thrown towards the wall.
"Do it!" Job ordered shooting at a window shattering the glass.
A gust of wind enveloped them all as Christopher concentrated on his magic.
"We all need to jump out together! If you get too far from me, I won't be able to hold you!" The Aeromancer said.
They all walked on the wall as the building started to ascend in the sky.
Job radioed his men in the garage to turn back to extraction point A, the park, while they would have to go there on their own.
"Ness." Matthew called Vanessa. "I'll stay. Lynn and Faynn are still in the building. I'll go grab them. We'll meet you at the park."
"How will you get down?" Vanessa asked worried about him.
"Ffyr can also cast wind magic. We'll do the same." Matthew said smiling at her. "We don't have much time. Go. Keep an eye on that Doug man. He's a man-child, but he's still a level 30 adventurer. Something is not right here."
"Yeah." Vanessa agreed. "Go get your girlfriend, Matt. See you at the park, then."
Matthew nodded and ran to the stairs using his Reckless Agility to increase his speed. Meanwhile, Vanessa explained to Job that Matthew was going to get the rest of their party.
The soldiers and Vanessa all jumped together with Christopher slowing their fall with an upwards gust of wind. The Howling Spear HQ was already very high in the sky and only going higher as the time passed. Half the building was still on the ground.
Around them, a lot of other buildings were also being dragged upwards to the sky in the direction of the red gate above.
During their slow fall, imps flew at them seeing them as easy targets. The soldiers shot at the small demons trying to grab them and used mana shields to hold out the fireballs thrown in their direction.
They managed to land safely on the ground, but they were surrounded by enemies.
They hurried towards the debris of the neighboring building and trenched themselves in there fending off a horde of imps and dretches. Some Cambions were in their midst directing the lesser demons and urging the small beasts to kill the soldiers.
"This is Delta squadron to base command, mission failed. We are surrounded by enemy troops and need extraction ASAP." One of the soldiers used his radio to ask for help.
"Copy that Delta squadron." The operator on the other side of the line answered. "We're sending an extraction unit to point D."
"Send another to point A. We have two soldiers going there as well." The soldier manning the communication said.
"Roger." They said back.
"Point D?" Vanessa asked using her knife to kill an imp that got too close.
"It's the National Stadium." Mara explained killing a dretch with her knife.
"This things smell worse than the sewer." Vasconcelos said throwing the dretch corpse out of their hiding place. "How do we get to the stadium?" He then asked taking a look at all the demons trying to get them.
"We have no choice. We fight and move." Job said. "We need to go south."
At this point a powerful gust of wind came from up them. It was Matthew, Faynn and Faralynn with Ffyr outside of the necklace holding them with her wind.
"This is so fun!" Ffyr screamed. "We should jump more often from buildings!" She laughed.
"Not now Ffyr!" Matthew said shooting at some imps and making way for them to join the soldiers.
"Glad to have you back." Job said covering them with his own gun while the four ran to cover themselves among the debris.
"Who's this cutie?" Mara asked when they found cover.
"This is Ffyr, my familiar." Matthew introduced the Fairy to the Lieutenant.
"We need to go to the National Stadium." Vanessa informed Matthew and the others.
"An extraction team will meet us there." Vasconcelos said after ducking from a fireball that exploded on a block of concrete near him.
"We need to get through their army then." Matthew thought out loud.
His hand went to his eye patch. If he used the his demonic mana he would be powerful enough to plow a way through that mass of demons. But that would also mean that the demonic part of his soul would keep growing.
"Don't." Faralynn held his hand when she noticed what he was thinking. "We have a large group here. You don't need to do this on your own." She said. "Don't use it unless we have no other choice."
Vanessa and Faynn nodded at him agreeing with the elf's perspective. They weren't lost yet. They could get out of there using their combined strength.
"Fire won't work against them." Job said to one of his men while discussing a strategy to get to the extraction point.
"That blue flame thing seemed to work." Mara said.
"But its also deadly to us." Matthew said. "I can use it to cover our back, but we can't get near the unholy fire."
"Ok. Give him some grenades." Job said opening fire into a group of imps that tried to get close. "They're encircling us."
Matthew pocketed 3 grenades form the soldiers on his vest while shooting at a pair of dretches that got near.
"We have no more time and no options." Vasconcelos analyzed.
"You're right. We have to charge or they'll overwhelm us." Job decided. "On my mark we go south. Matthew. Use your blue fire with those grenades to cover our run."
They all nodded in understanding.
As soon as Job gave the sign, his men concentrated their fire on their south. Two of them created mana walls covering their other positions while they all got up from their covering positions and charged the enemy army.
Vanessa was dragging Douglas by the handcuffs while he complained that it was hurting him. Matthew, Mara and Faynn were the last to move. Faynn using her shadow spikes to thin the herd of those getting close to Matthew while he prepared the grenades with unholy fire.
"Run!" Matthew screamed while throwing them at the demons.
The grenades exploded spreading blue flames to all those who were hit by the shrapnel. The imps were so close together, that one started to spread the fire to others when they touched each other.
At first the demons ignored the flames, but once they realized that unholy fire could harm them and that they could not douse those flames, they kept away from them and their allies who were now burning bright blue.
That gave the group a small window to run away.
The squad didn't stop for one moment. They kept moving and running shooting back at their pursuers. Shooting forward against those demons they found on their way.
Soon the National Stadium was on their sights.
"Locked in your position, move inside!" A command from the radio came to them.
Fighter helicopters appeared on the sky flying in their direction and opening fire from their canons creating a safe corridor for them to run towards the stadium.
A squad of jets passed by dropping bombs on positions around the stadium destroying huge groups of demons that were maintaining that position.
They now could see the transport helicopters coming down into the stadium lawn as they passed the gates that gave way inside the stadium.
There were few lesser demons in there, most were barbed devils who were ransacking the food from the snack bars and vending machines.
The soldiers passed through them opening fire without stopping. They ran at full speed towards the lawn jumping over the fences that separated the stands from the game arena.
A trio of transport helicopters were there waiting for them with fighter helicopters on the sky giving them cover.
Soldiers inside the helicopters signaled them to hurry inside moving their hands with speed.
It was close now, just a few more steps.
And then the helicopters in the sky exploded in large balls of fire. One of them almost fell on top of the squad. The transport helicopters were the next to be hit by laser beams from the stands and exploding in fiery infernos.
A score of Balors came out from all places. All with smiles on their wide shark-like mouths. The stands started to fill with lesser demons as the squad made a circle on the grass taking a defensive position.
A loud laughter came to them as a woman in her late 50s with a large pair of bat wings coming out of her back came down from the sky.
"I believe you have my son."
