Chapter 44: The Returning Demon Hunter

[Thanks for the support from our alliance master!]

The firelight reflected Lev's unpredictable face.

He silently watched the skinny man walk away, then picked up a dwarf pipe and took a deep puff.

Bang.

The heavy door closed.

Lev picked up a wine glass and took a gulp, then kicked his bed board open. Under the messy bed board was a locked chest, next to it were a heavy steel sword, a cross silver sword, and a crossbow.

Clang.

Lev picked up the steel sword and drew it out; the blade was still sharp, clearly well-maintained.

This steel sword was different from the ones used by demon hunters Su Ziyu had seen before. Demon hunters from the Bear School wield two-handed heavy swords with one hand, swords that require two hands for others are quite easy for them; hunters of this school are warriors with incredible strength.

The cold light of the blade reflected Lev's face; he silently wiped his weapon with sword oil.

Clunk.

Lev put down the steel sword and opened the locked chest, inside was a very heavy set of armor, only the Bear School among demon hunters equipped such heavy armor, once relying on this strong armor to face numerous monsters head on.

The Bear School is characterized by strength and endurance, their genetic mutations make them stronger and sturdier.

"A bear never loses its fighting spirit," Lev murmured.

He reached out and took out this set of armor, almost weighing fifteen kilograms.

Lev put on the armor piece by piece, then placed the two swords on his back, the crossbow on his waist. In the demon hunter schools, only Bear School and Viper School often use crossbows, most hunters from other schools specialize in swordsmanship.

The layout inside the blacksmith shop was simple.

Lev fumbled out a purse from under the bed, then carefully opened a completely sealed box, inside were small bottles of alchemy potions.

As he walked out of the blacksmith shop.

The once decadent and depressed old blacksmith had become a fierce demon hunter. He glanced at his blacksmith shop one last time, took out a key, and headed towards the town's only tavern.

Lev pushed the door and stepped inside.

He saw many shocked faces, and some people whispering: "Demon hunter!…"

"I knew it!… You guys didn't believe it!…"

"He must be a demon hunter!… No ordinary person can kill a black bear bare-handed!…"

In people's eyes was a trace of fear and curiosity, because demon hunters were rare in this area now. Demon hunters from the Bear School were gradually forgotten, as they were the first to be purged among demon hunter schools.

"I want your horse." Lev walked over and said, in a deep voice.

The innkeeper, a bearded middle-aged man, seemed to know Lev's identity and said without hesitation, "Alright. I'll take you."

"No need." Lev picked up a wine jug from the table, then threw the key to the blacksmith shop over and said, "That blacksmith shop is yours!"

After speaking, he carried the wine jug, looked at others, and turned to leave.

Demon hunters usually have no way to make a living, trained only to deal with monsters, fighting and killing are what they excel in most in life. Many ended up destitute because they have no other way to earn money. Ultimately leading some to recklessly abandon the demon hunter creed and secretly accept assassination contracts.

These were forced by life.

Lev was one of the few surviving demon hunters from the Bear School in this world.

He ran a blacksmith shop for a simple reason; Bear School hunters have big appetites, their equipment wears down severely, and the money earned gradually wasn't enough to cover expenses, so he simply took a hammer and learned how to repair armor and weapons.

The sound of hooves gradually faded.

The people at the inn still debated, discussing why a demon hunter would hide his identity and live secluded in their town.

Some said it was because he was tired of killing, some said it was due to people's rejection, and others said they just wanted to rest a bit…

Beside the road outside the town.

A grim-faced man quietly awaited atop a warhorse. When he saw Lev fully armed, the man, his face scarred, grinned slightly.

"A bear never loses its fighting spirit!" Lev glared at him and repeated the phrase.

"I'm sorry! Brother!" The grim-faced man earnestly said, "That's right. A bear never loses its fighting spirit!"

Lev threw his wine jug over.

He looked up at the moon in the sky, and said gravely, "What about those lone wolves? Are they back?"

Among the many demon hunter schools, Wolf School has always been the strongest.

"Still at sea." The grim-faced man took a swig from the jug and laughed, "Those lone wolves quietly raised a few wolf pups in the Southern Islands!"

"They attacked the church's secret base."

"Secretly reclaimed some trial potion formulas."

"Let's go."

"We'll talk as we ride."

The two demon hunters rode their horses away, moonlight stretched their shadows far and long.

City of Freedom.

After Su Ziyu strengthened his Spiritual Lightning to a certain level, he finally decided to accept Lady Anirella's mission, to eliminate the high-tier vampire of the Hunting Faction.

But this requires a very detailed plan.

They obtained intelligence about the high-tier vampire called Gimmon Fan Talaf from the Night Queen.

He was actually a councilor in the City of Freedom, a noble by surface identity, even owning his own piece of land. This guy usually seldom stayed in the City of Freedom, because other high-tier vampires didn't like him, Gimmon Fan Talaf often roamed alone, thereby satisfying his desire to hunt and suck blood.

High-tier vampires don't want to turn the City of Freedom into a chaotic city without order, they even personally clean up some rule-breakers.

Gimmon Fan Talaf often moved around some towns in the South, occasionally heading to coastal islands, where the terrifying 'Night Evil Beast' in legends referred to him, because dozens of people in that area had died in his hunts.

This high-tier vampire's territory was remote.

Almost no population, but inside his castle were some slaves, and many bred blood-sucking beasts.

Every month he would quietly return once.

Other times his whereabouts were uncertain, but Lady Anirella stated she would try to find Gimmon Fan Talaf's location.

Lady Inid was rallying people.

Some clearly just emerged from the deep jungle of elf rangers gathered at the guild here, numbering about ten and appearing to be quite skilled.

Su Ziyu waited quietly during this time for news, while gathering more monster intelligence.

However.

On the third day, he received intelligence from the Southern Countries, Van Helsing led a raid against Kolon's Flame Rose Knight Order, assassinated multiple church high officials, and even set their base ablaze.

Currently, these demon hunters were being wanted by the church and various countries!
