Chapter 98: Dagger vs Sword

While Koul wasn't the type who supports hitting women, this girl particularly, he wasn't going to spare.

The hypocrisy in her actions severely irritated him.

When Hera was being shamed, she was present but said nothing. Yet now that he had taken matters into his hands, she was stepping up.

If this wasn't the biggest hypocritical act ever, he didn't know what else to call it.

Koul tore his gaze and attention from the boy writhing in pain on the floor and turned to the girl. Her gaze was calm, but her eyes showed fearlessness and intensity.

She wasn't merely jesting. If Koul continued any further, she would strike him.

Koul didn't even know who she was. He didn't care, but the whispers from the other students when she stepped out helped him a little.

"Is he really proving stubborn in front of Lanice?"

"Is it because he doesn't know who she is, or he's just trying to save his face?"

"Jeez! He should just end it already. Lanice even fought an esteemed knight of the academy and put him in his place. Plus, it's not like the professor is making an issue out of this herself."

"I think it's better if he's taught a little lesson. Right now he's just too in his head."

"But he's a non talented so Lanice better take it easy on him."

"He's a goner for sure. Lanice looks fed up with him."

The whispers fell clearly into both Lanice's and Koul's ears. But just like Lanice was calm, so was Koul.

He didn't care whether she was a warrior from a legend, or a female for a gender, he would put her down.

Koul turned away from her.

The moment he did, the whispers rose again. This time, clearer and louder.

"Yeah, that's the wisest thing to do, turn away."

"Hmph! I kind of knew he'd do this. Not even a backbone."

"But it's better than being beaten to a pulp by a girl, isn't it?"

From where she sat and watched the whole thing, Marie stressed bitterly. Her face was tired and clouded with a mix of fear and anticipation.

Ever since walking into Koul and Hera that night and seeing how fierce Koul was taking her, she started to rethink all that she had thought about Koul.

Since she was still a virgin, she didn't really understand. She wondered if all men would be that fierce and strong while taking a woman. Or if it was just Koul.

But regardless, the strength and how fierce he appeared that night made her start doubting whether he was truly weak or not.

And since he stood up to handle things regarding Hera, she'd realized he didn't play about her.

While everyone whispered what they thought would happen, Marie could only watch because she didn't know how to predict Koul's actions anymore.

He's full of surprises so it's better to watch than comment.

Lanice herself wondered why Koul turned away so easily. When she stepped out to confront him, she'd seen the determination and confidence in his eyes.

She prepared herself to fight because Koul's eyes told her he wasn't going to back down.

Yet he just turned away?

Before their confusion and conclusions could deepen and stretch any further, Koul walked toward one of the student's seats.

The students sitting there leaned back as he approached. They feared what he was going to do and Lanice also watched carefully.

But Koul simply crouched down and picked up the dagger that he had thrown at the student earlier.

Then with unbothered calm, he turned and walked back toward Lanice.

With practice finesse to demonstrate how well he wielded the dagger, Koul twirled it rapidly and sharply to reposition its hold in his grasp.

Then he pointed its tip at Lanice's face.

"Then by all means, humor me."

Without wasting a second, Koul planted a foot firmly forward as he launched at Lanice with the dagger poised.

The students gasped, and Lanice leaned back to put distance. She was surprised because she thought Koul would remain still and let her come at him.

She didn't know he would brazen enough to lunge at her, a woman, first.

Plus, seeing how fiercely ablaze his eyes were, and how surprisingly good his posture and focus was, she knew not to underestimate.

What's this? She wondered inwardly as Koul's dagger moved up, aiming for her chest.

Wasn't he supposed to be weak? I know commoners can be brazen and rough, but they don't have the opportunity to learn any good combat skills.

They know only to brutalize their ways through things. I've already been surprised at how he handled the boys, but now that I'm faced with it, I can't deny it.

She positioned her sword to intercept Koul's dagger that came with devastating power.

But the moment their weapons collided and rippled a forceful gust of wind that blew their hair, the classroom door burst open.

In barged professor Panen with a worried streaked face and urgent desperation.

His voice came out loud and hastily with urgency.

"Students! have—"

But was cut off just as quick when he noticed the messy commotion. His worried filled eyes gave way for surprise and shock to mount.

He swept through the entire classroom, taking in the injured and fearful expression of the students.

He saw Hera at a corner quivering with eyes filled with fear.

His eyes went back and landed on the two people he sensed were the root cause of the situation;

Koul and Lanice.

"Just what…" Professor Panen breathed in shock. "What have you done?"

Koul withdrew his dagger and straightened up. As did Lanice.

A heavy could of disappointment coated his face and his eyes were dull with dissatisfaction. He was annoyed that the professor had to interrupt things just when it was getting hot.

To him, he hadn't fully paid back the insults Hera received to his satisfaction yet. He was still displeased and mildly enraged.

Seeing his disappointed face, Lanice couldn't help but wonder if Koul was acting this way because he thought he could beat her.

She was quite an expert when it came to the sword. She had entered many competitions and duels in the past and won every one.

The majority of the people in the capital knew her for her sword expertise and her strength. She wasn't surprised if Koul, a commoner, didn't know her.

But seeing him act so boldly like he could take her on pained her pride.

Could he really handle me if I decide to strike right now? She wondered.
