Legendary Awakening: Harem System In The Post-Apocalyptic World

Chapter 98: Schadenfreude

"This… How did you do it?" Unlike the time when Max took out the vial out of nowhere, she couldn't stop herself from asking this time.

"Magic." Max curled up his lips, which made Vivian glare at him. But knowing he didn't want to explain, she dropped the topic. Then, she frowned and asked, "Is there more?"

In this stack, there were 20 pieces of bread. Even if they divided each in four, it would be enough for only 80 people at one time.

Before the D-Day, the population of the Red City was well over 50,000. Even if half of the people had died, there would still be around 25,000 people left.

These 20 pieces of bread didn't even make a dent in the amount they required for everyone's consumption.

Max could tell what she was thinking and said, "Yes, I'll bring out more when needed. For today, this much would be enough because this bread is special. Just a one-tenth of one is enough to give a grown man the required energy to work for a day. I'm going to have Jamie and others divide them into 500 slices and give one to every person."

"Hm? Then they can only cover a few streets today." said Vivian.

"No," Max shook his head, a solemn look on his face, "You are severely underestimating the number of people who have died in the last two weeks."

Vivian's heart grew heavy when she heard this and asked, "...How many people are still alive in your opinion?"

Max remembered the empty streets, empty or torn down houses and the skinny corpses at every turn and said in a low voice, "I would be happy if even 10,000 are still alive."

Vivian sucked in a cold breath. She hadn't expected him to state such a low number.

"You mean over 80% of people have…" She didn't complete the sentence.

"I'm afraid so." Max nodded, his expression grim. "And this number is before Jamie and others are finished… eliminating the inhuman ones."

"...I understand." Vivian said, then she suddenly hugged him.

Max raised his brows, but when he felt her rapid heart beats, he wrapped his arms around her.

After a while, she calmed down and pulled away.

"You okay?" He asked.

"Mm. I'm just feeling lucky that I was living in the mansion, safe from the brutality and horror others faced in the past two weeks, and that you came when you did, otherwise… I and everyone I know would have been among the departed." said Vivian, a grateful look on her face.

Max nodded, understanding what she was feeling.

After leaving the food storehouse, he asked, "Take me where the ground water tap is."

"Mm."

Soon, they arrived at the place—the handpump.

Max could tell it was among the least visited places before the D-Day from the stacks of recently dried up grass and weeds in the distance.

He looked around and saw there was a small villa two hundred meters away.

"Aunt Vivian, do you know whether that residence has a pool?" He asked,

Vivian looked over and nodded, "Yes, it has, but it's a small one."

"No problem. As long as it can hold around 5000 liters of water, it'll do." Max said before opening the system shop and buying two Anti-Radiation Potions.

[Harem Points: 17]

After the hour-long love making session with Vivian, his Harem Points had risen to 97. Then, he spent 60 to buy 20 pieces of Nutritious Bread and 20 to buy the two Anti-Radiation Potions, which reduced them to just 17.

He didn't mind the spendings though. They were being spent to help him, after all. Besides, he could always earn them back.

"Here, auntie." He gave her the three potion vials—two he just bought and the third that left with him from the three he received from the system.

"Find a long enough water hose, fill that villa's pool with the help of some ladies. Once it is filled, pour one of them into it. It will purify the water." Max instructed her, "Also, have someone guard the villa so no unauthorized person can come and take the water."

"I understand. I will have everything done before long." Vivian nodded in acknowledgement.

"Good." Max looked around and seeing there was no one watching them, he gave her a quick kiss on the lips and walked away.

Vivian watched him leave, her lips curving upwards into a smile. The kiss, although fleeing, melted away all her sadness and worries and brightened her mood.

"Let's get to work." She muttered and went away to bring some women to help her.

Max had already told Jamie about the Nutritious Bread, so when the groups were formed, they would take them from the food storage and Vivian would be finished storing and purifying water which they could take for the survivors.

Now, there were only two things he needed to take care of before he would be free to do whatever he wanted.

First, he had to go check up on Jack.

Second, he needed to see if Henry had found out anything of note from the man he had captured.

Not long after leaving Vivian, he arrived where Jack was and saw that the door was open, so he directly walked in.

"Oh, you are here." He said, seeing Eun-Ji taking now conscious Jack's temperature. The man who he had sent to look after him was standing on the side.

"Ah, yes. I just came to check up on him." Kim Eun-Ji nodded.

Jack looked at him and nodded in greeting, "Hello, sir Williams."

"How are you feeling?" Max asked, walking over.

"Except for some pain in my chest, I feel good." Jack forced a smile before saying in a voice, full of gratitude, "I heard you gave me a precious medicine. Thank you, sir. Otherwise I might not have survived."

"Don't worry about it." Max waved his hand. "All that matters is you are fine."

At this moment, Eun-Ji spoke up, her eyes flashing, "Sir Williams, though I'm having a hard time believing it, that potion was really miraculous. Not only has his wound mostly closed up, he isn't suffering from any side effects such as fever or headache."

"Mm." Max faintly nodded, then asked, "How long do you think he will need to recover completely."

Eun-Ji thought for a moment before answering, "More or less a week."

"I see." Max muttered before looking at Jack, "I have a medicine that can heal you in less than an hour. However, you suffer from agonizing pain. Do you want to take it or heal normally?"

While Eun-Ji and the man looked at him with shining eyes, Jack thought for a moment before saying, "Sir, I won't mind the pain, however… These medicines are too precious. I don't think I deserve—"

"Don't mind all that. You were shot while working for me. So, I naturally have to make sure you recover properly.." Max smiled. "Besides, I don't want someone as capable as you out of work for too long."

Jack was overcome with emotion upon hearing this. Then, he said, "Then I won't refuse, sir."

"Good." Max nodded and bought the [Abyssal Leech's Tear], feeling a sense of schadenfreude.

[Harem Points: 17→2]

"You two go out." He ordered.

Though Eun-Ji and the man wanted to see the effects of this new medicine, they obeyed him and walked out of the room.

Max took out the glass vial containing the crystal clear tear drop and gave it to him.

He then rolled the blanket and near Jack's mouth. "Bite on it as hard as you can immediately after drinking it."

Jack had a premonition after seeing this, but since he had already agreed, he nodded before opening the vial lid and draining it in his mouth.

Immediately after, he bit on the rolled blanket. He had thought it would be sometime before he felt the pain. However, almost at the moment he bit on the blanket, he felt as if each and every part of his body was set on fire.

Arrgghhhh!

Max didn't stay to watch him suffer and walked out, closing the door after him.

"Go in once he calms down." He told the man and then after a thought, he took out two slices of Nutritious Bread from the piece he had left in his inventory.

"Give them to him. He will feel better after eating them." said Max while handing them over to him.

Just like everyone else, Eun-Ji and the man were shocked to see him take out things from out of nowhere.

"Take them." Max urged when he didn't take them. The man snapped back to his senses and accepted them.

"Are you going home for lunch, Miss Eun-Ji?" He asked Eun-Ji, who dazedly nodded, "Uh, yeah."

"Alright. Come, I'll drop you off on the way." Max said and began walking away.

On the way, after hesitating for a long while, Eun-Ji finally looked at him and asked, "H-How did you do that, Sir Williams?"

"I'll tell you later." said Max, his eyes flickering with a deep meaning which Eun-Ji didn't understand, so she just nodded, "O-Okay."

However, after they parted ways, the look he had given her flashed in her mind, and she suddenly realized what he meant.

Ah~

Her eyes widened and she shivered, her face flushing red.
