Legendary Awakening: Harem System In The Post-Apocalyptic World

Chapter 99: Don't Ever Doubt

"…Ahhhh! Please stop! I don't know anything more. Ahhhh~!"

When Max neared the storeroom not too far away from the Mansion's gate, he heard pained cries.

"I'm giving you the last chance. Tell me where that guy is?" Henry's cold voice sounded.

"I told you everything I knew! Just kill me now, you bast—"

Bang!

A gunshot sounded and the enraged voice fell silent.

"Hmm?" Max raised his brows, surprise flickering in his eyes.

'It seems Jack's getting shot really ticked him off.' He mused.

Creak!

Right then, the storeroom's door opened and Jack walked out, gun in his trembling bloody hand and his eyes bloodshot.

"Fuck!" He growled, kicking the ground. It was then he noticed Max walking over and hurriedly rushed over, asking, "How is Jack, Sir Williams?"

"He is completely fine. Rest at ease." Max said, then asked, "Did you find out anything?"

Henry shook his head, "He was just an ordinary resident and just like everyone, he had been starving when someone found him. He gave him food and water and in return, he was asked to provoke the people to target the Mansion and coordinate the attack.

He, along with those two we shot down earlier, was responsible for gathering all those people who you killed.

After you slaughtered all of them, the guy found them again, gave them the guns, and told them to gather another crowd and take advantage of the commotion to kill a few of us.

I tried to find out who this person was, but he said the guy was wearing a face mask, so he didn't know who it was."

While listening to his explanation, Max walked over to the storeroom and looked inside. Immediately, his eyes narrowed because in the middle of the room, tied to a chair was the man he had captured.

He was completely naked and covered in bloody wounds. His fingers were cut off, his lower lip was hanging loose and the flesh from his thighs was sheared off.

His condition could easily make the faint hearted's heart palpitate in fear and with pity.

'No wonder he was begging for death.' Max thought before he turned to Henry, and asked, "You had to torture him so much to find out all that?"

"No, sir." Henry shook his head, "He had revealed everything I told you about after I slashed him a few times. I had to go ahead torture him because I suspected he was lying about not knowing that guy."

Max's brows knitted together hearing this.

"Then why did you kill him? Shouldn't you have first reported your suspicion to me? Maybe I could have thought of some way to make him spill the truth." said Max, his displeasure clear.

In response, Henry exhaled deeply and bowed his head, "You are right, sir. I should have done that. But I believe no matter what method you could have used, the result would have been the same."

"What made you think that?" Max asked, curious.

"It's because when I was… trying to make him spill the truth, in the daze induced by the pain, he had muttered some broken words: '...don't… can't tell… anything… family will… die'"

"So, you thought he wouldn't say anything because it would put his family's lives at risk?" Max asked, his eyes flickering.

"Yes, sir." Henry nodded.

Sigh!

Max sighed and shook his head before patting his shoulder, "I can tell you thought that because you love your family and won't do anything that could hurt them even if you were to die. However…"

His tone turned harsh, "Don't go assuming that everyone who seems to care for someone would be willing to sacrifice themselves for them.

Moreover… Even if he was as you thought, I still had methods to make him speak the truth."

Saying this, he took out the Corpse Decomposing Powder, grabbed Henry's hand and poured some on his palm.

"Go, sprinkle it on the body." He ordered.

Henry looked at the powder and then at him, puzzled, not knowing what he wanted to achieve by having him do it.

Still, he nodded and entered the storeroom and sprinkled the power on the corpse.

The next moment, his eyes widened when the corpse began to sizzle as if an invisible fire was burning it.

Sizzle! Sizzle!

Under his disbelieving gaze, within a few seconds, the corpse turned into dust.

'This…' Just when he was trying to make sense of what just happened, he heard Max say:

"Do not doubt my methods from now on."

Henry took a deep breath, walked out of the storeroom and bowed almost ninety degrees, "I understand, My Lord. Please forgive me just this one time."

'Oh?' Max's eyes flickered and a smile unconsciously appeared on his face when he heard his changed address.

"At ease." He said, his voice deeper.

"Thank you, My Lord," said Henry, standing up.

"You are not bad." Max nodded, turned around and walked away with his hands behind his back and his spine straight.

Henry watched him leave. Then, he glanced at the pile of dust on the chair in the storeroom.

'He really isn't ordinary.' He mused, an awed look in his eyes. A moment later, he wiped his bloody hands with mud and also left the place.

Not long after, he found where Jack was taken to and when he arrived there, he saw Jack, lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze with a drop of perspiration on his forehead.

"Hey, how are you feeling, man?" He asked while entering the room.

Hearing his voice, Jack shifted his gaze away from the ceiling and looked at him.

"Not sure if I'm feeling good." He said, forcing a smile on his face.

"Hm?" Henry frowned but before he could think into it, he heard the man who had been sitting in the corner chuckle and say, "Don't worry. Other than being in a bit of trauma, he is good."

"Micah? You were here?" Henry nodded at him and then asked, "What do you mean?"

At first, he felt some anger when he heard him laugh, but then he felt something was up, otherwise Micah, their long time companion, would have been so casual when Jack was in serious condition.
