I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!

Chapter 63: The wealthy heiress

Victoria placed a hand on Leo's cheek, and gently said, "It's rare to see such passionate founders. I hope you won't disappoint me. Because I do want to work with you."

Fortunately, this time Leo didn't fall for it. He grabbed her other wrist before it could do anything. He only released her wrist after stepping back.

'I can probably bring the other investor here in the name of a board meeting. But to give a proper plan under spells that can detect lies? If I told her my true plans, wouldn't she kick me out directly?'

Leo looked at the beautiful woman before him like she was a demoness.

'Just as I thought. Even though she is a little weird, it's hard to fool her. I really should try other banks even if they are a little smaller in scale than Lionels.'

He nodded without much reaction. "I'll get back to you after discussing with our board members."

He turned around to leave, and walked past the child who was still immersed in drawing a landscape with zigzag lines.

'Not bad for a child.' He patted her head lightly as he walked past her, making the little girl raise her hand in confusion.

....

For the next few days, Leo wandered from one bank to another, meeting the managers of every bank that was on the scale to support his plan.

Unfortunately, most banks even refused to meet him for some reason. Even the ones that met him, have vague excuses on why they couldn't give him a loan, like not having enough liquidity and so on.

The more Leo failed, the more he realized that it wasn't normal. The excuses didn't make sense. Even if his company looked overvalued, shouldn't they negotiate since he was a big client?

Something really didn't feel right. It was like someone was sabotaging him from behind to make sure that no bank could support him.

There was only one side with such influence in the banking industry of this space sector that encompassed multiple middle tier planets, and even a high tier planet.

It was the Lionel Family. Even though the other banks could be said to be in competition with them, Lionels truly sat at the help of the banking industry. No bank wanted to offend them directly.

"If Victoria Lionel is behind this, then it would explain everything. Is she really trying to sabotage me so that the Lionels are the only option I have left?"

Leo was sitting in the Necropolis Ship that was traveling through space like a ghost. His mind was in a mess about what to do next.

He had multiple weapons. He could even bring down the Lionels if he used his identity as the Envoy of Necropolis. But he didn't want to converge the two identities and leave any room to doubt.

"Should I approach other space sectors? Vitreans can help me, and they should also keep a secret. But... No, it's too risky. If Vitrean money moves to another space sector, a lot of eyes will move here."

"Even the two ancient clans might come after me, believing the envoy to be here. There's an even bigger problem. I can't risk anyone paying attention to earth yet since Kaelus is here. If anything happens to him..."

Leo rubbed his forehead, keeping his eyes closed as he tried to think of a solution. A solution that could bring him the loan that he needed, without exposing his true motives.

"Information! The first thing I need is more information!"

He suddenly opened his eyes and picked up a nearby device. It wasn't one that belonged to him, but the one that was borrowed from Viserl, the leader of the Galactic Union.

"Let's see what dirt Galactic Union's network has on you, which isn't available for the general public."

He unlocked the device and entered the Galactic Union's Secure Network for the first time.

He didn't aimlessly search through the folders for things that were kept on this device. Instead, he simply went to search for Victoria Lionel in the database.

"That was fast... The Union really has some good toys," Leo mumbled as the information page opened in a flash.

There was a brief summary on the top of the page, and entire paragraphs that went into great detail underneath.

Leo scrolled down to see exactly how long the page was, but even after hundreds of thousands of words, he didn't find an end.

"Just how detailed does the Galactic Union get?"

At this point, there was even an urge within him to search his own name to see if the union had anything on him. This was truly a treasure trove of information.

Fortunately, he didn't lose his focus. He scrolled back up, returning to the summary.

........

Name: Victoria Lionel

Father's Name: Gregory Lionel

Mother's Name: Viviane Lionel

Age: 21 Years old

Species: Evolved Human

Personal Net Worth: Three Trillion Galactic Credits

Heirs: One Child; Fiona Lionel

........

"She is only twenty one? She did look young, but I thought she must be older in real life."

Leo kept scrolling down. His eyes widened as he read about her net worth. This was just her personal net worth, and not even what the Lionel Bank handled, or how much her family had.

She was truly filthy rich, the place where Leo aimed to reach with his system.

If she wanted, she could easily fund him without even going through the bank as a mere hundred and fifty billion looked like chump change before her net worth.

"If she is that rich, just how rich would her father be?" Leo shook his head lightly, feeling a little jealousy that he wasn't the heir of such a family.

If his family was also that rich... If he wasn't an orphan... Would he still have to chase after money? He could only laugh at the thought.

For rich people, money was just a number that kept increasing even if it was left untouched. And for poor people, it was something that they oftentimes sacrificed everything for.

"Life is truly unfair. Then again, I can't complain. With my system, I will definitely surpass everyone!" Leo took a deep breath before scrolling down again.

"Hmmm? What's this about her husband?" He suddenly stopped, and his frown deepened.
