Undead Mage: I Have a Skeleton Clone

Chapter 292: Day and Night Toiling the Wolves’ Wealth of Treasure! (Part 2)

In that instant, the Long Spear in Fang Zhou's hand became a bolt of black lightning, piercing the Zombie Wolf's skull with indescribable speed to score a double kill.

Amidst the ghastly white Corpse Hills, two massive bodies, each over three meters long, collapsed to the ground. Foul, putrid blood oozed from their wounds, staining the surrounding earth red.

Beside them stood the Skeleton Clone. Now over two meters tall and with an even more sinister appearance, it gazed coldly as a menacing aura radiated from its entire body.

It seems I was overly cautious before. These Mutated Zombie Wolves are certainly lethal to ordinary Undead Creatures, but their effect on Extraordinary Creatures like me is significantly weaker.

The bones and muscles of the Skeleton Clone continuously split and compressed, reaching an unprecedented density. Its bones were indestructible, and its muscles contained explosive power. Combined with the enhancements from the Block and Counterattack and Battle Qi Shield skills, Fang Zhou had been able to completely ignore the death throes of the Mutated Zombie Wolf earlier.

However, if he were to face a Zombie Wolf at full strength or simultaneous attacks from multiple wolves, even the now vastly more powerful Skeleton Clone couldn't entirely negate the damage. This was why it had been hunting and lurking nearby, waiting to strike until it found two Zombie Wolves isolated from the pack. After all, in the perilous Corpse Hills, safety was always the top priority.

The Corpse Hills were vast; there was no need to die fighting these Zombie Wolves. Thus, during this time, aside from observing the Undead Creatures, Fang Zhou had also directed his Skeleton Servants to hunt at a distance, ensuring his daily progress in hunting and evolution continued without delay.

Excited, Fang Zhou extended his two Bone Claws and activated the Corpse Armor skill. After another gratifying increase in power, he quietly returned to the shadows. Having gauged the Zombie Wolves' combat strength, Fang Zhou adhered to a cautious philosophy over the next few days, adopting a hit-and-run tactic to hunt several more.

「Several more days passed in this tireless routine.」

That night, after their intimacy, Su Xinyan nestled against Fang Zhou's broad chest, feeling the steady, reassuring rhythm of his heartbeat. Her words carried a hint of laziness, as if she were still immersed in the wonderful moments they had just shared.

"Fang Zhou, you were too impatient just now..." She paused, seemingly savoring a memory, before continuing in a syrupy-sweet voice, "There's something I almost forgot to tell you."

Inside the room, a soft lamp illuminated their embracing figures.

Fang Zhou's hand roamed, gently caressing her petal-soft skin as he asked absentmindedly, "What is it?"

Su Xinyan playfully slapped away his mischievous hand. "Hmph," she huffed coquettishly. "General Ning Feihu's descendant, Major General Ning Danxin, returned to Sea City Military Academy today. According to her agreement with the academy, they will hold a simple funeral ceremony for General Ning Feihu in two days on behalf of the Longxia Federation's military. As per Major General Ning Danxin's request, the funeral will be kept simple since the Calamity Sun Demon Country has not yet been destroyed. Only after the Demon strongholds on Blue Star have been eradicated will they hold a state funeral, one where the whole nation can mourn General Ning Feihu and the other martyrs."

Fang Zhou fell silent for a moment before speaking. "That is only right. The military academy will naturally give its full support to Major General Ning Danxin's decision. I think for General Ning Feihu, to be mourned by the comrades he fought alongside and by his own descendant on the very land he swore to defend—that in itself is the greatest comfort and honor."

Listening to Fang Zhou, Su Xinyan's thoughts drifted back to her own bloody battles on the Human-Demon Battlefield in the Mythical World, and she couldn't help but feel a surge of emotion. She silently buried her head in Fang Zhou's strong embrace, savoring this rare moment of tranquility amidst the chaos of the Human-Demon Blood War.

「Back on the Corpse Hills.」

A thin mist rose from the ground like the sighs of ghosts. Its aura growing ever more condensed and potent, the Skeleton Clone lay hidden in the mist, motionless. Even the several Skeleton Teams flanking it had restrained their presence.

Not far away, three Zombie Wolves, each nearly four meters long, were slowly making their way through the hills. Their eyes glimmered faintly in the gloom as they vigilantly scanned their surroundings. Although these Zombie Wolves had lost their living intellect, they retained their instincts, especially their sensitivity to danger. For over a week, members of their pack had been vanishing, a clear sign that an unwelcome guest was secretly hunting their kind.

Now, the members of their pack under four meters long had been all but exterminated. Only a few large Zombie Wolves of similar size remained, along with their leader, a colossal beast over five meters long, which would occasionally patrol the small hill they occupied and its surrounding territory.

However, the Zombie Wolves' vigilance was not enough to detect Fang Zhou. His Soul Strength far surpassed that of these Undead Creatures. As long as he commanded his Skeleton Servants to lie prone, hidden beneath the scattered bones of the Corpse Hills in absolute silence, the Zombie Wolves would never perceive anything amiss.

When the three Zombie Wolves had moved a fair distance from their hill, Fang Zhou keenly sensed the air grow still once more. He knew his moment had arrived.

These guys have finally delivered themselves to me. he thought.

He silently rose from his hiding spot, tailing the three Zombie Wolves like a shadow in the night as they moved farther away. Meanwhile, Fang Zhou had already dispersed his Skeleton Teams along the Zombie Wolves' patrol route.

Finally, as the three large Zombie Wolves passed an outcropping of rock, Fang Zhou ordered his Skeleton Teams to attack.

BOOM!

A tremendous force erupted from behind a large boulder, followed by a dazzling white shockwave. A Skeleton Warrior wielding Double Axes leaped down from the rock, the weapons tracing two perfect arcs through the air as they flew toward the lead Zombie Wolf.

It was none other than the Berserker Heroic Spirit, Olaf. He attacked with the speed of lightning, heralding the start of the well-laid ambush.

Although Olaf was now just a skeleton, the blood and fire of a Heroic Spirit still flowed within him, granting him its legacy and combat instincts. Therefore, he instinctively targeted his prey's weak points: the head, spine, and abdomen.

The Zombie Wolf clearly hadn't expected this seemingly fragile Skeleton Warrior to be so ferocious. It let out a piercing howl, trying to block Olaf's deadly blow with its steel-hard front claws. However, Olaf's Bloodthirsty Strike was far beyond ordinary power.

CRACK!

The Zombie Wolf's foreleg shattered under the blow. Thick, clotted blood sprayed out like a fountain, dyeing the surrounding bones crimson.

Just then, another warrior, Tidamia, leaped down from a nearby boulder. Wielding his terrifying Beheading Giant Sword, he slashed through the air like a black thunderbolt, striking at the grievously wounded Zombie Wolf.

With a sickening SQUELCH, the Zombie Wolf was cleaved by Tidamia's greatsword before it could even react, collapsing in a pool of blood.

Only then did the other two Zombie Wolves snap to their senses. They threw back their heads and let out deafening roars, their muscles tensing for a final assault. However, just as they were about to lunge at Olaf and Tidamia, dozens of Skeleton Warriors surged from the surrounding bone piles. It was clear these warriors had laid an inescapable trap, and they emerged from all directions to instantly surround the two Zombie Wolves.

When paths narrow, the brave are victorious. To prevent his skeletal minions from suffering needless losses, Fang Zhou decisively intervened himself.
