Chapter 454: Worse Than Pigs and Dogs

Chapter 454: Chapter 454: Worse Than Pigs and Dogs

Cara Preston shouted, "You have all wronged me! I grew up in the Preston household. Our bond is so much deeper than the one you have with Vera Xavier! But ever since she came back to the Preston Family, you’ve made things difficult for me at every turn. It’s just because I’m not a real Preston!"

"So, you do know you’re not a Preston, after all!" Grandma sneered. "Since you think we treat you so badly, why don’t you get the hell back to your own family! Why are you so shamelessly clinging to ours?"

"You’ve finally said what you really think!" With a wail, Cara Preston burst into tears. "You just can’t stand having me here!"

"We told you to go back to the Xavier Family when we brought Vera home, but you threw a fit and threatened to kill yourself, refusing to go," Grandma said, bluntly exposing Cara Preston’s hidden motives. "In the end, it was just because you looked down on the Xaviers for being poor and living in the countryside. The only reason you’re causing a scene now is because you’ve realized the Preston Family no longer has the money to raise you like a pampered young lady, and you can’t order me around like a maid anymore!"

Her deepest secrets had been exposed, but Cara Preston still didn’t feel any shame. She had already decided to leave the Preston Family, so there was nothing left to fear.

So she shouted, "You’re saying all this just because you can’t stand me and want to kick me out of the Preston Family, aren’t you? Fine! I’ll leave, then! Big deal!"

Grandma was furious and about to retort, but Vera Xavier cut in before she could. "It’s not that we want to kick you out of the Preston Family. It’s that this humble household can no longer accommodate a ’great Buddha’ like you who only knows how to indulge. When we first discovered you weren’t a Preston, the family still raised you as if you were our own biological daughter."

"Then, you provoked Dad into having a stroke, yet not only did Grandma let you stay, but she even cooked your meals and waited on you every day. Now, you’ve torn up my acceptance letter to ruin my future. We haven’t even kicked you out, and you’re the one threatening to leave. That’s proof enough you’ve already planned your exit and have no desire to stay with the Preston Family."

"You’ve brought the Preston Family to this state, yet you talk as if we owe you something. Cara Preston, let me ask you: you’re not even a part of our family, so what could we possibly owe you that would require us to raise you, tolerate you, and give in to you, again and again?"

Her words made the entire situation perfectly clear.

The color drained from Cara Preston’s face. She had wanted to paint herself as the victim, forced out by the Preston Family, and play the part of the poor, pitiful girl one last time.

Vera Xavier said coldly, "When you get right down to it, this is just a case of us Prestons being too kind and forgiving, while you are vicious, cruel, and utterly shameless."

Murmurs rose from the crowd once more. This time, it seemed everyone was barely restraining themselves from rolling their eyes at Cara Preston.

Aaron Cheney chimed in at the perfect moment, "Cara Preston, get out of the Preston household! Get out of this compound!"

Aaron Cheney’s words were immediately met with a chorus of agreement from the women nearby. "Get out! Letting someone like her stay in the compound is a complete disgrace to us all!"

"The Preston Family did more than enough just by raising her! They don’t owe her a thing!"

"I’ve never seen anyone so black-hearted! So shameless! Get out!"

Cara Preston knew that after this incident, she had no choice but to leave the Preston Family. However, being driven out like this wasn’t the way she had envisioned it, and she was thoroughly unwilling to accept it.

She glared viciously at Vera Xavier, wishing she could lunge forward and tear her to shreds. But just as she moved, Grandma grabbed her arm. "What? Can’t win with words, so you’re resorting to violence?"
