Chapter 677: Chapter 331: Do You Have It In For Me?
"Are you made of iron or something?"
"Cut the crap!"
Li Chang’an glanced at him.
"Get a move on!"
The moment they reached the cafeteria entrance, Sun Yang plopped down on the steps and started pounding his legs.
"I can’t take it anymore. I absolutely can’t. I need to catch my breath. Today’s training was murder! You guys think the instructor is targeting me on purpose? Huh? Does he have it out for me?"
"As if the instructor would be impressed by you!"
Shen Qiuyue, standing to the side, pulled out her meal card and said coolly.
"You whine and moan the entire time you’re running. How do you expect anyone to be impressed by that?"
"Ouch, Sister Qiuyue, that one hurt!"
Sun Yang wore a pained expression.
"Give me a break! I’m the team’s fire support! I rely on my brains and my gun, not my legs! We all have different jobs, can’t you guys show a little consideration for my specialty?"
"I think the instructor is well aware of your ’specialty,’ which is why he’s making you run more!"
Han Ruoxi, holding her tray, casually chimed in.
"Besides, running builds stamina. If your body breaks down, how are you going to have the strength to handle all that heavy artillery?"
"Ruo Xi, you’re usually so sweet. Why are you starting to sound like Shen Qiuyue?"
Sun Yang gave her an aggrieved look.
"I thought we were friends! Why’d you have to twist the knife like that? You’re breaking my heart!"
"You’re being too dramatic!"
Han Ruoxi raised her eyebrows.
"I’m just telling it like it is!"
"Alright, stop playing the victim."
Li Chang’an walked up from behind and pulled Sun Yang to his feet.
"You still have to eat even if your legs are sore. Stop holding us up."
"Captain, you’re a lifesaver!"
Sun Yang let himself be pulled up, then draped an arm over Li Chang’an’s shoulders and refused to let go.
"From now on, Captain, just say the word, and I’ll go through hell and high water for you!"
"If you don’t let go right now, you can run another ten laps tonight."
Li Chang’an glanced at him and said offhandedly.
Sun Yang instantly let go and leaped backward.
"Whoa, I was just kidding, Captain! Don’t take it seriously!"
The group walked into the cafeteria. It was the middle of the lunch rush, and the place was bustling.
The Insect Hunter Squad got in line for their food. Each carrying a heaping tray, they found a corner to sit down.
"Hey, the food’s pretty good today!"
Sun Yang’s eyes lit up as he stared at the roasted meat on his tray.
"Look at this, guys! These cuts are so thick. This is definitely a rare treat on the base!"
"Eat up. You’ll need the energy for running this afternoon."
Li Chang’an said between bites, his tone flat.
"Captain, can we please not talk about running? I’ve had more than enough torture from those twenty laps today!"
Sun Yang picked up a piece of roasted meat and stuffed it into his mouth.
"I swear, I have it the worst on this squad. I’m always getting chewed out, always being targeted!"
"You have the nerve to say that?"
Shen Qiuyue looked up, her tone icy.
"You’re the one who complains the loudest during every training session. Who else is the instructor supposed to keep an eye on?"
"Sister Qiuyue, you’re not being objective!"
Sun Yang said around a mouthful of roasted meat.
"Look how hard I fight on the battlefield! When have I ever not been the one charging ahead? And just because I talk a little trash now and then, you all give me such a hard time. It’s totally unfair!"
"If you really feel that wronged, you can go take it up with the instructor."
Han Ruoxi added casually after taking a sip of her soup.
"But I have a feeling the instructor’s response would be even harsher."
"You think I’d dare?"
Sun Yang’s eyes widened.
"Just one look at Wei Zhuang’s face makes my knees go weak. Forget arguing with him, just the thought of it sends a shiver down my spine!"
"That’s just like you. All talk, but you’re a total coward when it counts."
Shen Qiuyue shook her head and went back to eating.
"Sister Qiuyue, I really think you’re biased against me!"
Sun Yang looked deeply wronged.
"If you don’t believe me, ask the Captain! Captain, tell her, am I a dependable guy or not?"
Li Chang’an looked up and gave him an impassive glance.
"Finish your food first."
Sun Yang was momentarily speechless. He lowered his head and shoveled down two quick mouthfuls of food, not forgetting to mutter under his breath.
"Fine, fine! No one understands me. I’ll just have to understand myself, then!"
Han Ruoxi couldn’t help but laugh.
"Sun Yang, could you be any more ridiculous?"
"I’m not trying to be funny, I’m stating a fact!"
Sun Yang raised his head, putting on a serious expression.
"But seriously, what’s the tactical training this afternoon? Did the instructor give any hints?"
"When does the instructor ever give hints?"
Shen Qiuyue replied coldly.
"It’s always a last-minute decision. It’d be useless to ask."
"Then I won’t ask. I don’t want to get chewed out again."
Sun Yang sighed.
"But I have a bad feeling this afternoon won’t be easy. You could tell the instructor was in a bad mood today."
"Don’t jinx it!"
Han Ruoxi said with a smile.
"Maybe this afternoon’s training will be a breeze?"
"Easy?"
Sun Yang shook his head.
"You believe that? Because I sure don’t."
"Alright, enough chatter. Finish your food."
Li Chang’an put down his chopsticks and stood up.
"Assemble when you’re done eating. And don’t be late."
The afternoon’s training was just as Sun Yang had predicted—not easy at all.
Wei Zhuang stood in the center of the tactics room. A holographic map of an Insect Race nest glowed from the projector, with the members of the Insect Hunter Squad gathered around.
"This is a simulated mission."
Wei Zhuang announced.
"Your squad will infiltrate an Insect Race nest, eliminate the commander inside, and exfiltrate safely. This mission is highly difficult, but it’s a test of your tactical skills and teamwork!"
Sun Yang swallowed hard and muttered under his breath.
"I knew it wouldn’t be easy..."
"What was that?"
Wei Zhuang looked at him coldly.
