Chapter 746 - 365: All Aboard (Part 2)

Chapter 746: Chapter 365: All Aboard (Part 2)

Sun Yang did fairly well after the combat simulation began, but he was soon overwhelmed by the virtual enemies.

He gritted his teeth and held on for a while longer but was ultimately defeated.

"Damn, this is way too hard!"

Sun Yang stood up, looking defiant.

"Han Ruoxi, you give it a try!"

"I’m not wasting my time on something like this!"

Han Ruoxi scoffed.

"I’ll go."

Shen Qiuyue stepped forward and calmly took over the controls.

A few minutes later, Shen Qiuyue completed the simulation with ease, drawing surprised looks from everyone around her.

"Shen Qiuyue, you’re amazing! You passed it so quickly!"

Sun Yang couldn’t help but exclaim.

"It’s just a virtual battle. It’s not that hard."

Shen Qiuyue replied nonchalantly.

After playing for a while longer, the group reluctantly left the recreation area.

On the way, Sun Yang was still muttering.

"It’d be great if the Captain gave it a try. He’s definitely better than us!"

"Just drop it. The Captain doesn’t have time for that nonsense."

Han Ruoxi yawned.

"I’m going back to the dorm to sleep. Don’t drag me out again!"

Back at the dormitory, the squad finally quieted down, each finding a spot to rest.

At dinnertime, the cafeteria was packed. The moment the Insect Hunter Squad stepped through the door, they were enveloped by the rich aroma of food.

Sun Yang sniffed the air as he walked forward excitedly.

"They actually have barbecue today! Is this some major holiday at the base?"

"You’re making a big deal out of nothing. It’s just barbecue."

Shen Qiuyue glanced at him coldly as she walked to the food counter with her tray.

"Instead of getting excited, you should hurry up and get in line before it’s all gone."

"What do you know? This is a rare treat from the base cafeteria. We have to cherish it!"

Sun Yang immediately jumped into the line, anxiously watching the people ahead of him, terrified the barbecue would be gone by the time it was his turn.

Standing behind him, Han Ruoxi slapped her forehead in exasperation.

"I don’t get it. Weren’t you just complaining about how exhausted you were? How come you’re full of energy the moment you smell food?"

"This is food for the soul! Even the most tired person can get fully recharged by the smell of barbecue!"

Sun Yang explained with a straight face, even waving a hand back at her.

"Don’t worry, I’ll grab the biggest piece for you in a bit!"

"Yeah, right. As if your eyes can even tell the difference in size."

Han Ruoxi couldn’t help but mock him.

Soon it was their turn. Sun Yang did indeed pick the largest piece of meat for his own plate and grabbed a salad. He then turned to Han Ruoxi with a grin, handing her a plate.

"Here, this is for you. It’s not the biggest piece, but I picked it out!"

Han Ruoxi glanced at the meat on her plate and sighed.

"I guess you have a conscience after all."

Meanwhile, Li Chang’an and Shen Qiuyue had already found an empty table. The others gradually gathered around them with their trays.

Bai Lin ate quietly without saying a word, his head down as he tinkered with his terminal.

"Bai Lin, can you put that damn machine down while you eat? We’re supposed to be enjoying barbecue time, not holding a tech seminar!"

Sun Yang grumbled indistinctly while taking a huge bite of meat.

"You’re right. I should be more focused."

Bai Lin looked up and replied calmly, then went back to eating with his head down.

"Oh, give it a rest. He doesn’t have a complicated mind like yours."

Shen Qiuyue said nonchalantly, taking a sip of water.

"Hey, on to business. Captain, what’s our next mission?"

Sun Yang wiped his mouth and turned to Li Chang’an.

"Is it another patrol? Can we get something new for a change?"

"No new missions for now. We resume normal training tomorrow."

Li Chang’an replied calmly, then picked up a piece of meat and put it in his mouth.

"Normal training? No way! You mean Instructor Wei Zhuang’s torture regimen again?"

Sun Yang let out a wail and sighed at the heavens.

"When will this ever end!"

"If you have a problem with it, you can go tell the instructor. See if he’ll switch you to an easier course!"

Han Ruoxi shot back without mercy.

"Never mind, never mind. I’m afraid he’ll just end up throwing me into the wilderness survival training grounds mid-sentence!"

Sun Yang immediately waved his hands in dismissal.

"I’ll just quietly accept my fate!"

After dinner, they returned to their dorm. Sun Yang leaned back in his chair, staring into space with a bored expression.

"Can’t we do something else? It’s just training, missions, training, every single day. Life is so monotonous!"

"What do you want to do? Play cards? Chess?"

Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes from her bed.

"How about we have a little competition? Like, who can get the highest score on the combat simulator!"

Sun Yang’s eyes suddenly lit up as he suggested excitedly.

"Boring."

Shen Qiuyue rejected the idea flatly without even looking up.

"If you want to play, go play by yourself. Count me out."

Han Ruoxi also refused without hesitation.

"Captain, what about you?"

Sun Yang turned to Li Chang’an, his face full of anticipation.

"Not interested."

Li Chang’an replied coolly, continuing to read the mission briefing in his hands.

Sun Yang slumped back into his chair and sighed.

"What a bunch of killjoys! So much for my entertainment plan!"

Just then, a knock came from the door, and a communications officer pushed it open and entered.

"Insect Hunter Squad, the Commander has new mission orders. Assemble in the command hall immediately!"

Li Chang’an put down what he was holding and stood up to address the squad.

"Gear up. We leave in five minutes!"

"A new mission? This is so sudden!"

Sun Yang looked surprised, but he quickly got up to grab his gear.

Five minutes later, the Insect Hunter Squad arrived at the command hall on time.

Commander Liu Na stood in the center, her expression grave as she stared at the combat map before her.

"We just received a report. Traces of unusual Insect Race activity have been discovered in a nearby mining area. We suspect they’re setting up some kind of special facility.

Your mission is to proceed there for reconnaissance and confirm the specifics of the situation," Liu Na said.

"How large is the mining area? Are there any other support units?"

Li Chang’an asked quickly.

"The mining area is medium-sized with complex terrain, but your objective is clear. You only need to confirm the specific purpose of the Insect Race’s activity.

Support units are currently on standby. If you encounter anything unusual, you can call for them at any time."

Liu Na glanced at him, her tone firm.

"But remember, your priority is reconnaissance. Do not act rashly."

"Understood!"

Li Chang’an nodded and led his team out of the command hall.

"Captain, this mission doesn’t sound simple. The terrain in the mining area is complex, and the Insect Race could be hiding anywhere," Han Ruoxi said with some concern as she organized her gear.

"Missions are never simple. The more complex the environment, the calmer you need to be."

Li Chang’an gave her a calm look, then motioned for the squad to board the reconnaissance vehicle.

The reconnaissance vehicle bumped along the rugged road of the mining area. The inside of the vehicle was silent, save for the sound of the tires rolling over the ground.

Sitting in the back, Sun Yang finally broke the silence.

"Why is this mining area so desolate? I feel like it’s even more barren than our last mission site!"

Han Ruoxi, leaning against the window with her arms crossed, sounded a little impatient.

"This is a mining area. What did you expect to see, lush green trees?"

"I wasn’t saying I wanted to see scenery, but it shouldn’t be as desolate as a graveyard.

No matter how I look at it, this place feels off."

Sun Yang poked the floor with his Pulse Gun.

"Captain, what do you think?"

"Shut up and focus. Stop your endless chatter."

Li Chang’an didn’t turn around, his eyes fixed on the road ahead as he uttered the curt command.

"I was just saying... No need to be so serious..."

Sun Yang shrank back and muttered under his breath.

Sitting to the side, Bai Lin spoke quietly while operating his terminal.

"Multiple Energy sources detected within a two-kilometer radius ahead. They’re scattered, and the readings are weak. Could be Insect Race scout units."

"Scattered Energy readings?"

Shen Qiuyue turned to look at Bai Lin.

"Are they scouting a path or trying to lure us in?"

"Hard to say. We’ll have to get closer to confirm."

Bai Lin replied without looking up.

Li Chang’an raised a hand, signaling the driver to stop. He turned to the squad and said,

"Everyone out. We’re splitting into teams.

Sun Yang and Han Ruoxi, you’re one team. Shen Qiuyue and Bai Lin, you’re another. I’ll go alone.

Follow the route and check those Energy sources separately. Report back immediately once you’ve confirmed the situation!"
