The Rising Phoenix

Chapter 1068: Thought That It Was Bai Xifeng

Chapter 1068: Chapter 1068: Thought That It Was Bai Xifeng

Most of the students were extremely, desperately curious about the sudden, aggressive lockdown. A large crowd of students immediately approached their respective teachers, repeatedly and frantically asking about what had transpired over the last forty-eight hours. However, the teachers either vaguely avoided the topic with practised excuses or simply refused to answer their questions directly.

Several teachers merely told the suspicious students that a highly volatile, high-profile guest had unexpectedly arrived at the school, and the faculty had been deeply worried that a student might accidentally offend the distinguished visitor. That was supposedly the official reason why everyone had been strictly ordered to remain locked inside their rooms.

However, many of the savvier students did not believe that cheap explanation for a single second.

They had all clearly seen several severely injured teachers walking around, especially the venerable Array Master teachers. Some of them were deathly pale, while others still had prominent, fresh bloodstains dried onto their formal robes. That did not look like the peaceful aftermath of welcoming an honoured guest. Instead, it looked remarkably like a brutal, desperate battle for survival.

Furthermore, all the students had clearly and vividly seen the terrifying, dark heavenly tribulation clouds hovering directly above the centre of Tianlong School for the past two days.

Putting all the puzzle pieces together, many of them naturally came to the exact same logical conclusion. Someone powerful inside the school must have been undergoing a massive breakthrough. Then, powerful outside experts had arrived to forcefully interrupt the process. The school leadership had chosen to fiercely protect that person, which made those outside experts furious enough to launch a full-scale attack against Tianlong School.

Still, despite all the rampant rumours, absolutely no one knew who the mysterious, protected person actually was.

Xie Lanying, Ning Shoukai, and the other prominent members of the Xie Family also arrived at the exact same conclusion after discussing it among themselves. In fact, unlike the general student body, they actually had a very specific primary suspect in mind.

Bai Xifeng.

After all, her breakthrough processes had always been completely bizarre and logic-defying. Previously, she had somehow managed to attract actual, terrifying heavenly tribulation lightning despite not even advancing to the grand Nascent Soul Realm yet. Who knew what kind of bizarre, heaven-shaking thing she had managed to pull off this time around?

Therefore, driven by equal parts worry and curiosity, they decided to personally visit Bai Xifeng at the Inscriber Division. However, even after knocking on the heavy outer gate several times, absolutely no one came to answer. The thick wooden door remained firmly and silently closed against the outside world.

This was highly unusual. Whenever Xie Lanying came to visit and knocked on the perimeter gate, it would usually swing open by the third knock at the latest.

"Maybe this is not a particularly good time to visit her." Xie Zixin said softly, looking around the quiet valley.

"Yeah... probably..." Xie Yanlin nodded in agreement, sensing the heavy silence.

"I think you are right." Xie Lanying looked at the tightly closed gate and sighed softly, her eyes full of concern. "Xifeng might be thoroughly exhausted after everything that happened over here."

"Let’s just come back and visit her later." Xie Qingge suggested practically.

"Yeah. Let’s do exactly that." Ning Shoukai agreed with a firm nod.

Since no one appeared to open the gate and they did not want to selfishly disturb Bai Xifeng’s much-needed rest, the group finally turned around together and quietly left the perimeter of the Inscriber Division.

...

Bai Xifeng ended up sleeping for an entire day and night. She only finally woke up because her empty stomach was growling loudly and protesting like crazy in the quiet room. Otherwise, given her sheer exhaustion, she might have happily continued sleeping until the next morning.

Grrr...

"Fine... fine... I am waking up to feed you, stop yelling." Bai Xifeng mumbled helplessly to herself while rubbing her flat stomach.

She slowly and stiffly climbed out of the warm bed, stretching her sore, aching body until her joints popped. After that, she padded into the attached bathroom and splashed her face with a handful of ice-cold water. The refreshing, cool sensation finally cleared away the thick layer of remaining drowsiness clinging to her brain.

Because she was far too lazy to actually cook anything from scratch right now, she sank her consciousness inside her storage rune where she usually kept a hoard of freshly prepared, hot meals. Scanning the spatial inventory, she found a bowl of savoury beef noodles with eggs, a crispy scallion pancake, and several massive, steamed beef buns.

She eagerly took everything out of the rune and placed the steaming dishes on the table. The very exact moment her eyes landed on the mountain of food, the lingering sleepiness in her mind disappeared completely, replaced by pure hunger.

Her eyes immediately lit up. Without a single second of hesitation, she picked up the large bowl of beef noodles and instantly dug in.

"Hmm... This is absolutely delicious." Bai Xifeng commented happily, blowing on the hot, dangling noodles before taking another massive mouthful.

The noodles were still perfectly warm, and the rich, savoury broth immediately made her feel fully alive and energised again. Not long afterwards, she had successfully finished every single dish on the table. There was not even a single crumb or drop of soup left behind.

She leaned back heavily in her wooden chair and rubbed her full stomach with a blissful, content expression.

"Ah, I feel so incredibly blessed..." Bai Xifeng sighed in pure satisfaction.

Now that her stomach was completely full, a wave of post-meal laziness hit her, and she suddenly wanted to crawl straight back into bed to continue sleeping.
