Chapter 1089: Chapter 1089: Zhang Zhenyu Was Shocked To See The Beasts
Zhang Zhenyu was slightly taken aback by their genuine, unreserved kindness.
"Thank you all very much. We truly appreciate your hospitality." Zhang Zhenyu said, offering a grateful bow.
His wife and young daughter also politely expressed their heartfelt gratitude before happily joining everyone around the crackling campfire.
The atmosphere in the clearing quickly became much more harmonious and lively as everyone enjoyed the warm breakfast together. Even though the meal was relatively simple compared to a noble feast, the hot, delicious food following such a terrifying, life-threatening night felt especially comforting to the exhausted family and guards.
After everyone had happily finished breakfast and packed away their camping gear, it was finally time to officially hit the road and continue their journey.
At first, Zhang Zhenyu had naturally assumed that these young students would simply be travelling on foot alongside his family’s carriage. After all, he had not spotted a single horse, carriage, or any other traditional means of long-distance transportation anywhere around the campsite.
However, in the very next breathtaking moment, his eyes widened in complete, jaw-dropping disbelief! One magnificent, high-tier beast after another suddenly materialised out of thin air in blinding flashes of spiritual light!
A majestic, snow-white White Tiger with razor-sharp claws. A gigantic, awe-inspiring Skyroaming Roc whose massive wingspan cast a shadow over the clearing. A powerful, sleek High Wolf radiating fierce elemental energy. And finally, a massive, imposing Three-Headed Wolf whose terrifying, suffocating aura alone made Zhang Zhenyu instinctively take half a step backwards in pure shock!
Zhang Zhenyu nearly jumped out of his skin in fright! Even his hardened guards standing behind him subconsciously gasped and gripped the hilts of their weapons, their muscles tensing up before quickly realising that none of the terrifying beasts showed even the slightest hint of hostility toward them.
Only after watching the formidable creatures calmly approach their respective young masters like affectionate pets did Zhang Zhenyu finally come to a startling realisation. These were all contracted spiritual beasts! His heart could not help but tremble violently inside his chest.
Contracted beasts, especially high-tier ones, were extraordinarily, notoriously difficult to obtain! Not only were they ridiculously expensive, requiring sky-high fortunes that could bankrupt prominent merchant families, but they were also extremely rare to encounter in the wild. Even wealthy, high-stage cultivators might never have the golden opportunity to form a soul contract with one in their entire lifetime. Yet every single one of these young teenagers casually possessed one! Just who on earth were these students from Tianlong School?!
It was no wonder at all that they had remained so extraordinarily calm and nonchalant when facing dangerous mercenaries and wilderness threats earlier. Their background, talent, and sheer combat capabilities were clearly far, far beyond what any ordinary young cultivators could ever dream of comparing to!
"Master Zhang, are you and your family ready?" Bai Xifeng asked with a gentle, casual smile. "We are about to depart for Shiwi Town."
Zhang Zhenyu snapped out of his shock and nodded quickly, before his stunned gaze gradually shifted toward the enormous, intimidating three-headed wolf standing quietly and loyally beside Bai Xifeng.
"Y-Young Lady Bai..." Zhang Zhenyu asked cautiously, his voice trembling slightly. "Are these all your group’s contracted beasts?"
"Hmm... That’s right." Bai Xifeng nodded pleasantly.
She then turned slightly and pointed toward the giant, three-headed monster standing proudly by her side.
"This is my personal contracted beast." Bai Xifeng smiled faintly, her dark eyes filled with affection as she stroked its neck. "His name is Cerberus."
Zhang Zhenyu slowly looked toward Cerberus, taking in the sheer scale of the creature. The three-headed wolf looked exceptionally fierce, massive, and utterly imposing. Every single one of its three pairs of glowing eyes radiated a suffocating, kingly pressure that naturally commanded absolute obedience, making it seem like a true, undisputed monarch among wolf beasts.
For a brief, bewildered moment, Zhang Zhenyu found it deeply difficult to reconcile such a terrifying, monstrous beast with the refined, elegant, and breathtakingly beautiful young lady standing right beside it. He had honestly expected a graceful, delicate young lady like Bai Xifeng to contract a pretty, elegant beast, perhaps a rare spirit bird, a colourful butterfly, or a graceful nine-tailed fox.
Instead, she had contracted an overwhelmingly, monstrously domineering three-headed wolf! The sheer, stark contrast between the gentle, lovely young woman and her terrifyingly ferocious contracted beast was so hilariously striking that it left Zhang Zhenyu completely, utterly speechless for a long moment!
Bai Xifeng immediately hopped onto Cerberus’s broad, sturdy back with smooth, practiced ease. One after another, everyone else also climbed onto their own formidable contracted beasts, getting into position and preparing to resume their journey.
Meanwhile, Zhang Zhenyu returned to his family’s wooden carriage. After gently helping his wife and daughter climb safely inside first, he followed them into the cabin before knocking on the front panel and giving the coachman the clear signal to depart.
With the soft rumble of wooden wheels, their journey officially began once more.
Compared to before, however, their overall travelling speed became noticeably slower and more relaxed. Since Zhang Zhenyu’s family was riding in a heavy, horse-drawn carriage, Bai Xifeng and the others deliberately matched the horses’ modest pace instead of allowing their agile contracted beasts to sprint ahead at full speed.
Fortunately, not a single one of them was in a particular hurry to reach their destination.
Because Bai Xifeng had barely gotten any sleep the previous night, having spent countless tedious hours practising her complex Armament Master skills before rushing off to rescue Zhang Zhenyu’s family in the middle of the night, intense physical exhaustion quickly caught up with her.
The moment she settled herself comfortably on Cerberus’s broad back, she stretched her arms lazily before simply lying flat down against his dark fur.
