Chapter 1092: Chapter 1092: Fighting Back
The massive contracted beasts took up positions along the outer perimeter, while Bai Xifeng, Xie Lanying, Ning Shoukai, Xie Yanlin, Xie Zixin, Xie Jingguo, Xie Fengge, and Xie Qingge spread out in front, perfectly intercepting the incoming wave of enemies.
The dark-clad assassins reached them in the blink of an eye.
Clang!
Xie Lanying’s longsword collided fiercely with a descending sabre, sending a shower of bright sparks flying into the air. At the exact same second, her White Tiger, Xue-er, pounced toward another closing assassin, its massive, razor-clawed paw slamming directly into the man’s exposed chest.
Bang!
The assassin was blasted backwards like a broken kite, crashing violently into several thick tree trunks before finally slumping to the dirt, completely unconscious.
"That’s one down!" Xie Lanying grinned, parrying another strike.
"Hahaha! Hey, don’t steal all the fun for yourself!" Ning Shoukai laughed loudly, his eyes ablaze with excitement.
His long spear spun in a wide, lethal arc before thrusting straight toward a rushing assassin’s throat.
The masked assassin hurriedly raised his twin blades to block the strike.
Clang!
Before the assassin could even recover from the heavy impact, Ning Shoukai seamlessly shifted his grip and reversed the momentum of his weapon. The weighted butt of the spear smashed heavily into the man’s exposed stomach.
"Puff!" The assassin spat out a spray of blood before doubling over in sheer agony.
Ning Shoukai immediately followed up with a powerful, fluid sweeping kick.
Bang!
The man flew several meters backwards through the air before rolling helplessly across the muddy ground.
"That makes two for me!" Ning Shoukai shouted proudly, twirling his spear with a smirk.
"In your dreams, Shoukai!" Xie Yanlin snorted softly from a few feet away.
His sword flashed repeatedly in the dim sunlight, sending cross-shaped sword lights slicing through the air.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Three assassins cried out simultaneously as deep, bloody wounds burst open across their chests. Before they could even think of retreating, the Wis High Wolf lunged forward like a streak of grey lightning, knocking all three of them out cold with a single, earth-shattering body tackle.
On the opposite side, Xie Zixin rode atop Skyroaming Roc, raining wind blades down from above.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Razor-sharp, crescent-shaped blades of localised wind sliced cleanly through the battlefield, forcing the assassin squad to scatter frantically in every direction to avoid being dismembered.
"Damn it! Watch the sky!" One of the senior assassins shouted, looking up.
Unfortunately, looking upward caused him to completely lower his guard for a split second.
Xie Jingguo appeared right before him.
"You really should not look away during a fight." Xie Jingguo commented calmly.
Punch!
His heavy, qi-infused fist struck directly into the assassin’s jaw.
Crack!
Several teeth flew out alongside a jet of blood as the assassin collapsed onto the ground, utterly out cold.
"Hmph." Xie Jingguo casually shook out his bruised knuckles. "Still way too weak."
Meanwhile, Xie Qingge remained closely positioned beside the carriage wheel. Even though she rarely fought on the violent frontlines, her support techniques continuously rained down on her allies, buffing their speed and precision. The moment she spotted a golden opening to strike, she channelled her raw wind attribute to launch her own offensive.
A sneaky assassin had slipped past the vanguard and almost stabbed her twin brother, Xie Fengge, from behind. However, before the blade could connect, three luminous wind arrows shot through the air and pierced the attacker’s chest, dropping him to the grass instantly.
"Qingge, thank you! Nice shot!" Xie Fengge shouted over his shoulder, parrying another foe.
Xie Qingge smiled softly, her eyes sharp and alert.
"Focus on your own target, brother!" Xie Qingge called back warmly.
Inside the carriage, Zhang Zhenyu and his family stared completely blankly at the jaw-dropping scene unfolding right outside their window. His personal guards stood tightly around the wooden cabin, their jaws practically hitting the dirt.
"This... this is unbelievable..." One of the senior guards muttered, rubbing his eyes in utter shock.
"They are... they are actually completely suppressing a high-tier assassin squad..." Another whispered in sheer disbelief.
These young people looked to be only in their late teens at most, yet every single one of them possessed refined combat experience and reflexes that rivalled seasoned, veteran cultivators. More importantly, their tactical teamwork was almost flawless. None of them fought recklessly or broke formation.
Each person’s swift movements naturally covered their companion’s blind spots, leaving virtually no openings for the frustrated assassins to exploit. Even their formidable contracted beasts fought with astonishing, fluid coordination, as though they had trained side by side for many years.
Little Zhang Lingling carefully peeked through the corner of the carriage curtain, her big eyes wide with wonder.
"Mommy..." Zhang Lingling called out softly.
"Hmm, sweetheart?" Ma Ruoxi responded, her voice trembling slightly.
"Big Sister and her friends are super, super amazing!" Zhang Lingling praised with pure awe.
"They truly are, my dear." Ma Ruoxi gently wrapped her arms around her daughter, pulling her close.
Her anxious eyes, however, remained fixed on Bai Xifeng. Among everyone present, only Bai Xifeng had yet to make a single move or unsheathe her weapon. She simply stood quietly beside the massive Cerberus with her arms comfortably crossed over her chest, her dark, calm gaze sweeping across the chaos, silently observing every shift in the battle.
She was not being arrogant or dismissive of the danger. Rather, she was observing to see just how much her companions had grown after spending so much dedicated time training together at Tianlong School. And so far, she was immensely satisfied with what she saw.
Xie Lanying had become much calmer and more composed under pressure. Ning Shoukai no longer charged in recklessly without assessing the field first. Xie Jingguo’s swordsmanship had grown remarkably sharper and faster. Xie Yanlin’s offensive timing had improved tremendously, and Xie Qingge’s backing support techniques were becoming increasingly refined and versatile.
