The guide led their small group straight into the bustling heart of the horse market, where hundreds of fine steeds were being traded. He brought Bai Xifeng’s party over to a prominent broker’s stall.

"Welcome! Welcome, esteemed guests!" The horse broker greeted them enthusiastically, rubbing his hands together with a broad smile.

"Brother, these travellers are looking to purchase a few solid draft horses." The inn guide explained.

"Wonderful! Excellent!" The broker’s eyes lit up. "Please, step right this way and take a look at our finest stock. Oh... if I may ask, what primary task will you be using these horses for?"

"To pull heavy travel carriages." Zhang Zhenyu answered politely.

"Ah, I see!" The seller gestured toward a spacious, well-maintained stable area. "Then you can pick whichever ones catch your eye from this section over here. Every single one of these beasts is strong, healthy, and fully capable of pulling heavy loads over long distances."

Zhang Zhenyu immediately stepped forward to carefully inspect the horses on display. Meanwhile, Bai Xifeng casually looked around the market until her gaze landed on a quiet corner. Resting on the ground was a sleek horse, lying awkwardly on its side and letting out faint, pained huffs.

"What’s wrong with that horse over there?" Bai Xifeng turned and asked the seller, pointing toward the corner.

"Ah, that one..." The seller let out a defeated sigh, shaking his head. "We had a local beast physician check up on it, but he could not find anything physically wrong with the poor creature. Since it refuses to stand or eat properly, we just have to let it lie there for now."

"Can I take a closer look at it?" Bai Xifeng asked, her curiosity piqued.

"Sure, feel free." The seller warned attentively. "Just be careful as you get close. It has a pretty fiery temper and doesn’t take kindly to strangers getting too near."

The horse instantly lifted its heavy head the second it realized someone was coming near. It fixed Bai Xifeng with a suspicious, deeply cautious glare as it watched the stranger approach its spot.

Bai Xifeng moved slowly and deliberately toward the fallen creature. Smelling a human close by, the horse forced itself to slowly stand up on its trembling legs. The moment Bai Xifeng stepped within striking distance, the horse suddenly lashed out, rearing its back legs high and kicking violently straight toward her chest!

"Look out! Watch out!" The seller shrieked in terror.

However, Bai Xifeng was already fully on her guard. The exact second the horse made its sudden aggressive movement, she noticed the shift in its posture and gracefully stepped aside, easily dodging the lethal hooves. In the middle of her evasion, she flicked her wrist, popping a small soothing pill and tossing it directly into the horse’s open mouth.

The horse froze, stunned by the sudden burst of sweet flavour, and before anyone else in the market could even register what had just happened, Bai Xifeng had already stepped inside its guard and was gently stroking its forehead.

"I know... I know..." Bai Xifeng cooed in a soft, soothing voice. "You must be in so much pain right now. I am going to help you fix it, okay?"

The horse seemed to genuinely understand her words, gradually calming down under her warm touch until the aggressive tension left its body entirely. It even let out a soft huff and nodded its head submissively.

Satisfied, Bai Xifeng began to carefully inspect the horse’s body from head to tail.

"What is she doing?" The shocked seller whispered to the group.

"Checking the horse’s injuries, obviously." Xie Lanying replied casually.

"Is she a certified beast physician?" The seller asked, still trying to process her insanely fast dodges.

"Nope! She is a Pharmacist." Ning Shoukai stated proudly, puffing out his chest.

"WHAT?!" The seller gasped, his eyes widening in complete surprise.

Bai Xifeng finally finished her thorough physical examination of the horse, wiping her hands as she turned back to face the stunned seller.

"If I can completely cure this horse right here, will you sell it to him at a fair price?" Bai Xifeng asked, pointing a thumb over her shoulder at Zhang Zhenyu.

"Wait... you actually figured out the exact cause of its pain?!" The seller asked incredulously.

"Hmm." Bai Xifeng offered a bright, confident smile.

The seller paused to think for a moment. If the horse remained in this miserable state, he was completely certain it would eventually starve to death, resulting in a total loss for his business. It was far better to make a small profit off it now rather than watch it die without gaining a single copper coin.

"Deal! If you can cure it, I will sell it to your friend much cheaper than any of the other draft horses here." The seller agreed readily.

Bai Xifeng pulled a small pair of refined silver tweezers from her sleeve. She walked back over to the horse and went straight for its rear left leg.

"I am going to make all that nasty pain disappear now." Bai Xifeng promised softly, patting the horse’s flank.

The horse let out a gentle whinny in response, standing perfectly still as though it understood this human was actively trying to heal it.

Bai Xifeng carefully touched the padded sole of its hoof, probing around the edges until her fingers found the exact tender spot. Spotting the tiny hidden entry wound, she clamped her tool onto the object and firmly pulled it outward. A long, sharp sliver slid free from the hoof.
