"It was likely a sharp, dried tree branch." Bai Xifeng explained patiently. "It punctured deep into the horse’s sole while it was walking through the brush. Because it broke off flush against the skin and was extremely fine, your beast physician probably missed it during his quick inspection."

"I see..." The seller nodded in realisation. "Then... what was that glowing liquid you just fed it?"

"I see! Okay then... I also want to buy a few supplies of my own." Bai Xifeng nodded in agreement.

Leaving the bustling horse market behind, the group made their way over to the city’s primary central market. "What do you want to buy first, Xifeng?" Xie Lanying asked, curiously looking around at the colourful stalls.

"Fresh meat and a large batch of vegetables." Bai Xifeng answered smoothly.

"Why waste money buying meat? We can easily hunt wild game once we’re back in the forest." Ning Shoukai chimed in, tilting his head.

"Do you have any idea how much tedious work goes into hunting wild game?" Bai Xifeng countered, turning to glare at him. "The tracking, the hunting, the skinning, the dismantling, the tedious cleaning... I am an openly lazy person! Do you honestly think I want to spend my precious energy doing all of that extra manual labour?"

"Well, you are certainly never lazy whenever it comes to cooking a feast." Ning Shoukai retorted with a dry chuckle.

"That’s because it is something delicious that I want to eat! Of course I am going to put in the effort to cook it to perfection." Bai Xifeng huffed back at him.

"Why are you being so noisy and difficult? Just let Xifeng buy whatever meat she wants." Xie Lanying shot Ning Shoukai a sharp, exasperated look.
