Chapter 1138: Chapter 1138: It Is About The Third Prince
They walked into the main hall, where both the Empress Dowager and the Empress were already seated upon cushioned chairs, clearly waiting for Bai Xifeng’s arrival.
"Greetings to Her Highness, the Empress Dowager, and Her Majesty, the Empress." Bai Xifeng offered a polite, graceful bow.
Behind her, Xiao Li immediately followed her lead, dropping into a deep, formal bow toward the two highest-ranking women in the realm.
"Mm... good girl. Come, sit down over here beside me." The Empress Dowager said gently, pointing toward an ornate wooden seat placed right next to her own, beckoning Bai Xifeng over.
"Thank you, Your Highness." Bai Xifeng replied calmly.
She walked over and took her seat without fuss, while Xiao Li naturally stepped behind her miss’s chair, standing quietly with her head lowered in attentive silence.
"It has been quite a long time since we last spoke. Have you been doing well?" The Empress Dowager inquired warmly, her eyes carrying a gentle, maternal look.
"Of course, I have been doing just fine." Bai Xifeng answered before looking directly at the old woman with a raised eyebrow. "If I may ask, Your Highness... Why did you send for me today?"
The Empress Dowager let out a soft, melodic chuckle.
"Truth be told, I invited you here because I would like to ask a favour of you." The Empress Dowager admitted directly.
"Is it regarding your health?" Bai Xifeng asked, naturally assuming her medical skills were needed again.
"No, no, nothing like that." The Empress Dowager shook her head, her smile fading into a sombre expression. "It is about my grandson, the Third Prince."
Bai Xifeng’s eyebrows twitched upward slightly. She wondered what the Empress Dowager could possibly want to do regarding that missing Third Prince.
"Before he vanished, I heard that the boy was deeply fond of you." The Empress Dowager sighed softly, her tone laced with worry. "So, I want to personally ask if you would be willing to go out and search for him. He ran away after His Majesty tried to force him into a political marriage with a princess from a neighbouring kingdom. The boy adamantly rejected the imperial match, boldly telling everyone at court that he would only ever marry you, and no one else. Then, the very next morning, he vanished into thin air, leaving behind a single letter stating that he was leaving the Capital to go find his wife."
The Empress Dowager paused, letting out a long, heavy sigh before meeting Bai Xifeng’s eyes. "That boy truly holds you deep in his heart. That is why I can only hope you might be the one to go and bring him back."
Bai Xifeng fell into a brief silence, pondering the request. She genuinely had not expected the Empress Dowager to personally recruit her for a search party for the Third Prince.
"It has already been quite a long time since he vanished without a trace." Bai Xifeng probed carefully, testing the waters to gauge the Empress Dowager’s true thoughts. "Do you genuinely believe he is still alive out there?"
"I am certain of it." The Empress Dowager replied without a second’s hesitation, shaking her head. "The personal guard stationed by his side is an extraordinarily powerful martial artist. He is more than capable of protecting the boy from any mortal danger. Without that loyal guard, my grandson might indeed have perished long ago. But with him there, I am absolute in my belief that the Third Prince is still alive and well somewhere out in the world."
Bai Xifeng raised her eyebrows slightly, keeping her expression neutral.
The Empress Dowager seemed shockingly confident that the Third Prince had suffered no harm. Perhaps the old woman knew far more details than she was letting on. After all, she had watched the Third Prince grow up for much longer than Bai Xifeng had even known he existed.
"Fine. I will try my best to search for him." Bai Xifeng nodded in agreement.
"Thank you, child." The Empress Dowager replied with a gentle nod of her own.
Truth be told, Bai Xifeng was also secretly convinced that the Third Prince was still very much alive. After all, who on earth would have the sheer audacity, or power, to actually kill the formidable master of Black Moon? If someone out there possessed the terrifying strength needed to truly end his life, Bai Xifeng would gladly bow down to that person herself!
That man was simply not someone who could be easily slain or done away with.
"Your Highness, Your Majesty, if there are no further matters that require my attention, I would like to respectfully excuse myself first." Bai Xifeng stated politely.
"Are you planning on leaving the Capital City again so soon?" The Empress Dowager asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Yes. Tianlong School has granted us a one-month break. I only stopped by the Capital City briefly before heading over to Xianying City to visit my family." Bai Xifeng answered truthfully, offering no lies to the royal court.
"I see. Very well then, you may take your leave." The Empress Dowager waved her hand gracefully, granting her permission to depart.
"Thank you, Your Highness. Thank you, Your Majesty." Bai Xifeng stood up and gave a formal, respectful bow to both the Empress Dowager and the Empress.
With those final words, she turned around and strode out of the grand hall with an unhurried, steady pace. Xiao Li immediately fell into step right behind her master, keeping her head respectfully lowered.
"Mother, do you truly believe she will actively go out and search for the Third Prince?" the Empress asked softly once Bai Xifeng’s figure had completely disappeared from sight.
