Chapter 1146: Chapter 1146: Drag The Chef From The Kitchen
The manager nodded. Since the head chef would bear the entire burden of the cooking, it was indeed best to let him hear the absurd request directly from the customer’s mouth. He immediately summoned a waiter waiting outside the room and instructed him to hurry to the kitchen and fetch the head chef posthaste.
Fifteen minutes later, the head chef finally wiped his hands and stepped into the room. The manager gestured for him to take a seat beside him before breaking the news.
"Why on earth are you dragging me out of the kitchen in the middle of the lunch rush?" The head chef complained with a deep frown.
He had been drowning in orders, so he was naturally agitated about being pulled away from his stoves.
"This esteemed customer wants to place a massive bulk order, and every single dish needs to be fully prepared and packed by tomorrow morning." The manager explained.
"What?! I don’t get it. Explain it properly!" The head chef stared at him, looking even more utterly bewildered.
He already had a mountain of tickets to clear in the kitchen! Now he was being told that he had to pull an all-night marathon to produce a massive order before dawn? Naturally, he needed a very good explanation for this madness!
The manager proceeded to lay out the whole situation to the head chef, including Bai Xifeng’s wild plan to pack these gourmet meals for a long trek all the way to Xianjiang City.
"The food will go bad after a single day! That’s basic common sense!" The head chef stated firmly the second the manager finished.
As a master of his craft, he refused to waste his kitchen’s hard work on food that would just be thrown out as slop on the road.
"Like I told the manager earlier, I have a foolproof way to preserve everything perfectly." Bai Xifeng replied with absolute calmness.
"Just how much food are we talking about here?" The head chef asked, crossing his arms.
Since the young lady seemed ridiculously confident about her preservation method, he decided to at least hear out the scale of her order first.
Bai Xifeng immediately launched into listing the dishes she wanted prepared. She reeled off a wide variety of meats, stews, fried delicacies, and specialised sides, ensuring a rich selection so her party would not get bored eating the same meals over their travel months.
As her list went on and on without stopping, a look of sudden realisation began to wash over the head chef’s face.
"Wait a minute... Are you the exact same customer who ordered almost the entire menu for lunch earlier?!" The head chef blurted out, interrupting her.
"Yep, that’s me." Bai Xifeng nodded cheerfully.
"Ah... No wonder..." The head chef slapped his forehead, nodding in sudden enlightenment.
Word had already spread like wildfire through the kitchen about the legendary customer who had ordered a small mountain of food earlier. At first, he had assumed some wealthy clan was throwing a feast in the main hall. Now, he finally realised the perpetrator was the stunning young lady sitting right across from him!
Bai Xifeng did not mind his outburst at all and casually resumed listing her desired dishes. She systematically went through the restaurant’s menu item by item, meticulously choosing every dish she wanted packed. It took her another ten full minutes just to finish reciting her massive list.
"I will come by to pick everything up tomorrow morning before we head out. Do you think your kitchen can finish the entire order by then?" Bai Xifeng asked, looking straight at the chef.
"Technically, I can push my team to pull it off... but you have to tell me how on earth you intend to preserve all this food first! I refuse to let my hard work and high-quality dishes go sour in a bag." The head chef demanded firmly.
Though he was tempted by the culinary challenge, he still needed to know the secret. Preparing such an immense quantity of food overnight required a brutal, sleepless effort from his entire team, and he would not let that dedication end up in a ditch.
"I plan to preserve them with this." Bai Xifeng replied smoothly, reaching into her robes and pulling out a piece of drawn paper, laying it on the table.
The manager and the head chef leaned in, and the instant their eyes landed on the paper, their jaws dropped in sheer shock.
"Wait a second... Is that... is that what I think it is?!" The manager stammered out, pointing a trembling finger.
"What do you think it is?" Bai Xifeng asked, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips.
"A storage rune!" Both men blurted out in unison!
They had heard endless tales about the miraculous power of storage runes. Such magical artefacts were unfathomably precious, capable of storing immense quantities of physical items without adding an ounce of weight. Unfortunately, storage runes were also astronomical in price! Because of their exorbitant cost, neither the manager nor the head chef had ever dared dream of owning one in their lifetime.
Yet right now, a genuine storage rune was casually sitting right in front of their eyes!
"Bingo. It’s a storage rune." Bai Xifeng nodded before launching into an explanation of its internal properties. "With this storage rune, the food will never spoil because time is completely frozen inside its spatial dimension. If you place a piping hot dish inside, it will remain piping hot whenever you pull it out weeks later. The food stays in the exact same pristine condition as the moment it was put in."
"Ooh... I see! That... that is a divine treasure!" The head chef gasped, staring at the rune paper with star-struck eyes.
