Chapter 694: Unexpected Benefit Of Sharing Wealth

Chapter 694: Unexpected Benefit Of Sharing Wealth

Li Fan suspected that within the White Mist lay more than the ruins of ancient eras. It might also hold the remnants of other cultivation worlds entirely.

After all, no one knew how many worlds the Xuanhuang World had absorbed over the years to stave off being devoured by the Immortal Ruins. The Xuanhuang World itself had undergone earth-shattering transformations, swelling by a full circle in size. How much more so for the White Mist Barriers, the suspected buffer zones born of world convergence?

Yet for Li Fan, dangerous as the White Mist was, its peril might not surpass that of the Xuanhuang World itself.

The Xuanhuang World harbored too many hidden monsters. Here, Li Fan had encountered beings like the Heavenly Physician, the Ruomu Tree, and the Mysterious Heavenly Palm, escaping death by a hair's breadth each time. Who knew how many powerful entities still lurked in the shadows?

The danger within the White Mist, however severe, mostly came from the Lifespan-Devouring White Mist itself. Even if he ran into some bizarre and terrifying existence there, it wouldn't compare to facing the powerhouses of the Xuanhuang World, who could stop Li Fan from even activating Return to Truth.

Compared to the Xuanhuang World, the White Mist is like the corpse of a dead cultivation world. And the living are often far more terrifying than the dead.

With my avatar Xu Bai handling the scheming for the next section of the Mountain-Sitting Art, there shouldn’t be any mistakes. My true self can venture into the White Mist to investigate and see exactly what the Myriad Immortals Alliance is up to.

Li Fan reined in his thoughts. Drawing on his experiences from previous lifetimes, he began purchasing useful supplies through the Tianxuan Mirror.

He bought the Eight Directions Purifying Array Diagram, which could temporarily block the encroachment of the Lifespan-Devouring White Mist and buy precious seconds to catch his breath in a critical moment.

He also picked up the Black Death Talisman, essential for traveling within the White Mist since it could resist the Mist's life-devouring effects.

Beyond that, he stocked up on miraculous panaceas for rapidly replenishing the spiritual qi in his body.

Li Fan noticed that the prices of these items had clearly risen in recent days. The Black Death Talisman, especially, had quietly doubled in price. A significant number of people evidently already knew about the Myriad Immortals Alliance's imminent push for cultivators to explore the White Mist, and they were using this final window to quietly amass profits.

Among all the supplies, lifespan-extending treasures had seen the most alarming price increases, generally tripling or quadrupling.

Items that extended lifespan had always been rare and exorbitantly priced. Once a cultivator consumed one type, they had to seek out another, and that scarcity kept demand high and supply thin.

Now, with the White Mist Exploration Era approaching, these treasures had become practically synonymous with life-saving tools against the threat of the Lifespan-Devouring White Mist.

In a past life, Li Fan had been trapped in the White Mist. He had lingered too long and returned to the Eternal Immortal Fortress as a decrepit old man. A single Longevity Pill back then could have spared him that fate.

Unlike Li Fan, the cultivators of this world didn't get to keep starting over. For the sake of their own lives, it only made sense that they stocked up on every life-saving item they could find.

Li Fan glanced at the more than one hundred Longevity Pills Liu San had prepared for him. He wasn't short on contribution points, so he had no intention of selling them. He would save them for critical moments instead.

A pity Zhong Shentong is still unknown at this point in time. I've searched for a long time and found no trace of him. If I could learn that multicolored divine light ability of his, I could come and go as I please, and everything would be far more convenient. As for the incomplete chapter of the Life-Death Profound Canon, I'll wait for a chance to complete it later.

Time flew by.

The next day, Li Fan, Huangfu Song, and Dongfang Yao met again.

As agreed, Li Fan took out the large stockpile of supplies he had purchased and handed it over.

"Ahhh, brother, you truly have a generous heart!" Dongfang Yao's face bloomed into a delighted grin as he accepted the storage ring, packed to the brim.

Huangfu Song glanced at the ring, surprise crossing his face. "Brother Li, you've spent far too much!"

"Since we agreed to brave the White Mist together, I have to make every preparation. What is a little wealth compared to the lives of my brothers?" Li Fan waved a hand, unbothered.

"By the way, I've prepared something else as well," Li Fan said, his expression turning grave. He produced two jade bottles and passed them over.

Huangfu Song and Dongfang Yao took them and opened the lids. Inside sat three pills, each radiating a green glow.

A tantalizing fragrance of medicine struck their noses, so potent they nearly swallowed the pills on the spot.

Both men's expressions shifted. In unison, they said, "Lifespan-extending medicine?"

Li Fan nodded slightly and lowered his voice. "I spent tremendous effort acquiring these. They're called Longevity Pills. Each one extends your lifespan by two hundred years, and you can take more than one. The effect diminishes with each dose, but the first ten are guaranteed to grant at least a century each."

Hearing this, Huangfu Song and Dongfang Yao immediately grasped the value of the pills.

They carefully put away the jade bottles, then turned to Li Fan, visibly moved. "Brother Li..."

Li Fan smiled faintly and raised a hand to cut them off.

A series of emotions crossed Huangfu Song's face. At last, he gritted his teeth, as if he had reached some crucial decision.

"Brothers, please wait a moment. I'll return shortly."

Before Li Fan could respond, Huangfu Song hurried out of the private room in the Dao Discourse Tower.

An onlooker might have thought he'd fled with the supplies. But both Dongfang Yao and Li Fan knew that wasn’t the case.

They waited in the room, perfectly calm.

Dongfang Yao had known Huangfu Song for years and trusted his character without question. But the fact that Li Fan showed the same trust earned Dongfang Yao's respect.

"Heh heh, my judgment was spot on. Brother, you're truly someone worth befriending!"

"The White Mist is thick with danger. If I can't trust my companions, why travel together at all?" Li Fan said flatly, with an air of natural authority.

But even after waiting most of the day, Huangfu Song hadn't returned. Communication spirit talismans went unanswered. He seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth.

This time, even Dongfang Yao began to harbor doubts.

Li Fan remained as calm as drifting clouds.

Dongfang Yao could only shake his head in silent admiration.

Li Fan's composure came partly from knowing Huangfu Song well enough to be sure the man was no shortsighted fool. But there was another reason.

To Huangfu Song and Dongfang Yao, these supplies were incredibly precious. To Li Fan, they were practically worthless.

The hours slipped by. Only when night had grown deep did Huangfu Song finally return.

He sealed the door tight, then set up an array around them to ward off prying eyes.

"Brother Li, since you've been so open with me, I'll cast my caution to the wind.

"Brothers, take a look at this..."

With a face full of solemn gravity, he drew a small, square, antique-looking mirror from his robes and set it before the two of them.

"What's this plaything?" Dongfang Yao asked, utterly baffled.

Li Fan felt a jolt in his heart. His eyes locked onto the mirror in Huangfu Song's hands, and he couldn't look away.
