Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 4 Chapter 95: Going To An Appointment

Book 4, Chapter 95: Going To An Appointment

Chen Chuan took a look and chose not to answer the message. Instead, he walked out of his office and took the elevator to the fifth floor.

Once the elevator doors opened, he went straight to the medical division’s recovery ward.

With Safe Shield guiding the way, he took the exclusive path for commanding officers to Room 509.

When the person-in-charge was told that Chen Chuan had arrived, she set down her tasks and ran over to greet him respectfully. “Hello, Lead Investigator Chen.”

“Can I ask her questions?” Chen Chuan asked.

“She’s awake, but she’s now in the physical and mental recovery stage. As long as you don’t do it for a long time, you can talk to her,” the person-in-charge replied.

Chen Chuan nodded and motioned at the door. The person-in-charge stepped forward and had the domain entity in front of the door verify their identities before she used a key to open the door.

Once Chen Chuan walked in, he saw Yang Ling lounging in bed. There was a glass wall around her to isolate her. Medicinal paste had been applied to the parts of her body that had fused with Water Deity, while her head was covered with a recovery membrane. She also had some IV tubes in her.

Chen Chuan went up to the glass wall and picked up the communications Realm Pass beside it. “Miss Yang, do you remember what happened?”

Yang Ling sucked in a deep breath and answered with great difficulty, “Yes.”

That one single word caused her face to turn even paler.

Her head was a mess. Sometimes, it was occupied by her own thoughts. At other times, it was filled with information and data from Water Deity. When she tried to think, she felt her head pound.

Chen Chuan could immediately see what her problem was. This was due to her being forcefully extracted when her mind and body were fused with Water Deity.

While that kind of forceful extraction was bound to cause her harm, she was not hurt too badly, because she hadn’t been fused with Water Deity for long. If her fusion had been more thorough, her mind would suffer from irreparable damage even if her body was removed.

After observing her for a while, Chen Chuan said, “Pay attention to your breathing and do as I say.”

Then, he started guiding Yang Ling’s breathing.

Yang Ling adjusted her breathing as Chen Chuan instructed. After a while, her head started hurting less, and she also became much more relaxed. Her doe-like eyes became clearer.

“You have a mental talent. As long as your will is strong enough and you have a clear goal, you won’t have a hard time recovering using the breathing technique I just taught you,” Chen Chuan said.

“Okay, thank you,” Yang Ling answered softly.

“Rest. Once you’ve recovered, I’ll have some questions for you,” Chen Chuan stated.

“I’ll cooperate.” Yang Ling said. When she saw that Chen Chuan was about to leave, she straightened up and called out to him, “Lead Investigator Chen.”

It was only after Chen Chuan stopped walking that she continued. “What’s... the Resolution Department going to do with me?”

“I know a bit about your ties with United Might. Don’t think too much about it. We can talk after you’ve recovered.” Chen Chuan removed the communications Realm Pass and left.

He didn’t return to his office but instead went outside. On his way, he contacted Captain Gu. “How are things on your side, Captain Gu?”

“We’ve locked up the place since yesterday, just as you ordered. No one made it in, and no messages have been passed out.”

“Good.” Chen Chuan had ordered United Might to be locked down since the day they went to the tunnel, and he strictly forbade anyone from entering or exiting the company. While headquarters could get some information from other channels, they would need a few days to learn everything.

By then, he would have gotten it all sorted out. This time, it would be impossible for them to get out of the mess and make a comeback.

After a few more questions, he learned that there was nothing wrong with Captain Gu’s side and ended the call.

Something bothered him, though. On his way downstairs, he saw scarcely any people in the department. He didn’t even run into any officers.

His attention had been solely on his mission, so he didn’t pay much attention to the happenings in the department. “Why are there so few people in the department today, Safe Shield?”

“Because Lead Investigators Wen and Han have mobilized a large number of officers for their missions. Most of the other officers left have gone to various districts to provide reinforcements.”

Chen Chuan checked. Lead Investigator Wen had been keeping an eye on the harbor for the last half a month. Meanwhile, Han Fu had to attend a rather important meeting at night.

This was a business meeting between the Union’s representative team and Central City. The Union seemed to have also invited a rather important diplomat from the Linacrox Union.

Since various politicians were going to be present, as the lead investigator in charge of their safety, Han Fu had to go, and because of it, he took with him a large number of personnel from the Resolution Department.

Chen Chuan tapped his Realm Pass and immediately saw a negotiation video that had been uploaded onto the department’s platform.

On one side of the long negotiation table were politicians from both the Department of Administrative Affairs and the municipal government. Across from them were the main members of the Union’s representative team.

The meeting room was brightly lit. Occasionally, cameras flashed.

A number of security guards stood around, and most of them were from the Resolution Department. As a lead investigator from the Resolution Department, Han Fu stood behind the politicians in charge of negotiations.

After just one glance at it, Chen Chuan raised an eyebrow. Han Fu might have looked the same, but something about him was off.

The video only focused on the Resolution Department officers for a few seconds. Most of the video was on the Linacrox Union diplomat—Lieutenant General Aqimo.

He was around sixty years old, had a stern, cold countenance, and graying hair. Despite clearly being a mixed blood, he had the Linacrox Union’s national emblem on his chest. It had a blue ring and silver ring intersecting with each other with a 3D lightning bolt in the middle.

Aqimo was a hardliner in the diplomatic delegation, and as evident from his military rank, he was from the military.

After Percival’s death, he had been pestering the Department of Administrative Affairs and demanding that all those involved in Percival’s death had to pay a price.

However, the Great Shun Republic had always been at odds with the Linacrox Union, so even if the municipal government and the news media kept stirring things up, the Department of Administrative Affairs just ignored Aqimo.

Chen Chuan finished the short video and left the Resolution Department to take his limousine back. On his way, he drew up his contact list and contacted Ling Jianxing.

“Mr. Ling, you called?”

“Lead Investigator Chen, I told you before that I can prove my words to you, didn’t I? I believe that it’s time. Do you have a minute?” Ling Jianxing asked.

Chen Chuan’s gaze sharpened. “Oh? I do have time right now.”

“Come to the university, then. I’ll be waiting for you.” Ling Jianxing laughed.

“Alright. I’ll be there soon,” Chen Chuan replied.

He checked the time. It was 11:40 p.m..

Once he reached his limousine, his security team saluted him, and the logistician opened the door. When he settled down, he said, “To Martial Valor University.”

The limousine moved ahead of the others, and the rest followed.

Sun Rao and Wei Yuji finished their first patrol and returned to the parking lot.

Two hours later, they had another round of patrol, and this time, it was going to last until the sun rose. They didn’t stop by any place for food because of this and just took a tube of nutritional paste, parked at the parking lot to relax, and listened to some programmes in the Realm Pass to relax.

Just then, Sun Rao saw Chen Chuan come out and watched him for a while. His eyes moved with the limousine.

“Stop staring. He already left. You need to accept who you are and stop having impractical dreams.”

Sun Rao took another tube of nutritional paste and slurped it in brooding silence before he asked, “It’s been a long while since you joined. Why are you still patrolling with me? With your strength, you can go on missions that can display your worth more easily.”

“Central City is dangerous, and I’m not ready to face it for now. That’s why I think patrolling suits me more,” Wei Yuji countered.

“Dangerous?”

“Isn’t it? And it’s only going to get more so going forward.”

Sun Rao said nothing. Wei Yuji was right. Plenty of things had happened over the past year, and Central City seemed to have become more complicated and dangerous than before.

“I’ve been studying Chen Chuan’s promotion trajectory. It’s not complicated. He managed to get to his current position entirely due to his own power, and all his feats are genuinely amazing. If he had failed even once, he would have died. I don’t want to take that risk,” Wei Yuji pointed out.

“I thought you were really bold. You didn’t listen to me and went over to question Sancheng Huang,” Sun Rao shot back.

“I wasn’t being bold. I can simply recognize my own strength and other people’s. As for you, while you seem like the type to follow the rules, your head is actually filled with wild dreams,” Wei Yuji said and drew circles around his temple.

Upon being exposed, Sun Rao felt his face burn, and he raised his voice. “Everyone should have dreams!”

Wei Yuji nodded. “It’s good that you acknowledge that it’s just a dream. Listen to me. Don’t try and fulfill dreams that are too far out of your reach. It’ll be better for both you and other people.”

At 12:10 a.m., Chen Chuan’s limousine stopped in front of the Arcane Palace.

He got out and cast a glance at the red figure on the roof before giving her a nod. Then, he motioned for his security team to wait before heading inside.

He had the Frost King Saber in hand as he crossed the hall and took the elevator to the ninetieth floor and the hanging garden where he met Ling Jianxing last time.

The elevator doors opened, and he walked out.

Ling Jianxing was standing at the center of the garden in a dark purple suit that made his graying temples stand out. He spread his arms and said with a smile, “Welcome, Lead Investigator Chen. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.”
