Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 4 Chapter 94: Encirclement

Book 4, Chapter 94: Encirclement

The pincer attack took away Lead Investigator Wen’s luxury of dodging. He stepped to the side and released his Heartborn Force against the powerful force.

Boom!

A wind blast shot out, and Lead Investigator Wen was forced back. This was exactly what he wanted. It was at that moment that he saw just who his attacker was.

He had a protective mask, and his goggles were so ridiculously big that they occupied more than 30% of his face. Aside from external augmentation devices, he wore a thick pair of boxing gloves. The man was built, and the muscles on his shoulders, back, and thighs were especially thick. In comparison, his waist looked rather thin.

Lead Investigator Wen recognized the man. He was a famous martial artist and mercenary from the Linacrox Union. His codename was Soldier Ant. The man had herculean strength and great success rate for his missions.

The Linacrox Union, huh?

His heart sank. He had been right. Han Fu was working with their enemies, and it was precisely what he didn’t want to see.

But he didn’t have the time to dwell on this. With Soldier Ant’s power, he retreated dozens of meters away. While neutralizing the power of the attack, he quickly regained his composure.

Soldier Ant’s refined force could disrupt mutated tissue to a certain degree. It could also interfere with mental energy, but Lead Investigator Wen could handle it if he were fighting against Soldier Ant only.

But now, there were two.

He heard wind coming from his side. Han Fu arrived in front of him and kicked at his face. He brought his arm up to block the attack again. This time, their refined forces crashed into each other in the air and exploded. Neither was able to injure the other, but then, Soldier Ant rushed over and threw a fist at Lead Investigator Wen.

He didn’t have time to adjust his footing and could only bring his arms up to parry the attack, but the refined force Soldier Ant used this time was completely different. As they clashed, a sticky feeling rose. Lead Investigator Wen was unable to retreat with his refined force and even became stuck to the ground.

Just then, he heard the sound of a sword being drawn. Han Fu swung the blade at him.

While Lead Investigator Wen was held back, his officers stationed at the firing positions were shot down. Judging by the angle, the bullets came from the sentry tower.

They had never expected bullets to come from the supposedly safe rear. When they realized what was happening, there was no one left in the main positions.

However, the officers were all well-trained and did not panic. They released the bioweapons, but before they could get out to cause chaos, mental energy swept through the battlefield, and all the bioweapons collapsed.

While all of the people had mental protections, some of them still fainted. Those who remained conscious swayed on their feet as their minds swam. During that short moment, something flew over, circled around them, and opened up bleeding holes in their heads.

It was a thin, long dart. It circled around them one more time before returning to a person wearing a cowboy hat and a white mask.

It was Skin Flayer, yet another famous martial artist from the Linacrox Union.

His eyes were trained on Lead Investigator Wen as he toyed with a small dagger between his fingers. A peculiar look appeared in his eyes.

They had been preparing for an ambush here for a long time. It was set up by the Linacrox Union and Han Fu to specifically take care of Lead Investigator Wen.

By now, Lead Investigator Wen had been cut twice. His wounds were deep and long, and blood kept pouring out. Fighting barehanded against someone armed put him at a great disadvantage, and to make things worse, he was fighting against two people.

Even though he had brought his sword, he did not have a chance to draw it. When he saw what had happened at the firing positions, he made his decision. Since he brought his team here, he had to be responsible and bring the rest back, even if that meant dying for it.

He avoided yet another attack and removed his overcoat. Two metallic clicks sounded, and threw out two pineapple-shaped grenades.

When Han Fu and Soldier Ant saw this, they retreated out of caution.

Boom! Boom!

The two grenades exploded in the air, but they only released smoke. No shrapnel came out.

With the smoke’s cover, Lead Investigator Wen released a retreat signal via the emergency channel. Not even domain interference entities could block this short but powerful signal.

Once he gave the order, his remaining people retreated, and even the armored cars in the distance left.

Two loud bangs came from his side originating from Han Fu and Soldier Ant. This time, though, Lead Investigator Wen could no longer counterattack effectively. All he could do was to stall for time, even if it meant getting hurt again and again.

After around ten minutes, Lead Investigator Wen felt that he was at his limit and that it would be meaningless to continue dragging things out.

Ruthless determination shone in his eyes, and he threw his overcoat at Han Fu, blocking his view.

Upon seeing this, Han Fu pulled back, but then, he felt something touch his sword.

Lead Investigator Wen had drawn close enough for the sword to pierce his chest, and used the Air Lock Force to clamp down on it.

At the same time, he extended his arms and grabbed Han Fu’s forearm as he fixed his eyes on him.

Han Fu’s expression changed, because he knew what Lead Investigator Wen was trying to do. He was trying to destroy his arm.

Han Fu was going to go back, but if he went back without an arm because Lead Investigator Wen used a unique Heartborn Force to destroy it, it would be difficult for him to explain what had happened.

However, Lead Investigator Wen had put his all into this counterattack. The Air Lock Force affected Han Fu through the sword, and he couldn’t break free.

Soldier Ant rushed forward and hit Lead Investigator Wen’s back and head.

A large hole was blasted open on Lead Investigator Wen’s back, while half of his head exploded.

Even so, Lead Investigator Wen held Han Fu’s forearm in a vice grip and released a wave of refined force, which caused his entire forearm to explode. Broken bones and flesh dangled from his upper arm.

Han Fu looked down and sucked in a deep breath before turning to Lead Investigator Wen. As he looked into his one remaining eye, he said, “Do you know why you lost? Because you trust too easily.”

Lead Investigator Wen might have appeared cunning, but he was an honest fellow. If there was trouble, he would always step forward and happily help his colleagues. It was precisely because of this that Han Fu knew that Lead Investigator Wen would fall for his trap.

Lead Investigator Wen stopped breathing. His body was a mangled mess, and that last attack had used up all of his remaining strength. Even so, he remained standing in his final stance.

Skin Flayer came over and cast a glance at Han Fu’s broken arm, then at the bits of flesh on the ground. “Want me to sew that back on for you? It’s going to cost you, of course.”

“No need,” Han Fu answered stoically. He had prepared for any injuries he might face.

He turned in another direction. A white-haired man had appeared there at some point. His face was covered in wrinkles, but his eyes were as clear as a child’s. Once he appeared, the noisy battleground quietened down.

The man was Dream Master, a Linacrox Union’s martial artist with a unique mental talent. He could change people’s memories to a certain degree.

“I’ll leave the unconscious people and those captured alive to you. I don’t want any mistakes,” Han Fu ordered.

“I’ll take care of it,” Dream Master answered in a hypnotic voice.

Han Fu pulled his sword from Lead Investigator Wen’s chest.

Skin Flayer came forward with eagerness shining in his eyes and pointed at Lead Investigator Wen. “Han, how about you let me have him? He might be your loot, but I don’t think you want anyone to figure out anything through your wounds, do you?”

“Do as you like,” Han Fu answered coolly and flicked the flesh and blood off his sword. Then, he walked away, though he soon turned around. “Clean this place up properly.”

Skin Flayer lifted his hat. “As you command.”

Chen Chuan was at the Resolution Department. The person-in-charge of the medical division was giving him a report.

“We’ve checked. Overall, she’s fine, but she had grown a lot of mutated tissue. If she didn’t guide their growth properly, they would take over the physiological functions of her normal tissue. Fortunately, it didn’t last for a long time, so this didn’t have too much of an effect on her. We’ve already removed the mutated tissue.

“It was a ‘good’ piece of technology. If she had been in a more advanced stage of her fusion, things would have been different. Thank goodness we managed to save her in time.

“Still, while we’re able to remove the mutated tissue, it’s much harder to heal her mind. Too many thoughts have been injected into her mind, and she’ll need to rest for a long time to recover. Her personality and habits might change too. Those will be hard to revert back.”

Chen Chuan put down the report and asked, “Did she take any drugs?”

“I didn’t notice anything. Perhaps it’s out of consideration for her mental talent, because long-term usage of drugs can affect the use of mental energy. I didn’t find any traces of hypnosis or implants either. It might be out of the same concern. After all, she’s just a girl who didn’t have any combat abilities.”

She sighed.

“What about the active biosentient entity?” Chen Chuan asked.

“We’ve preserved it using cryogenesis. When you brought it, though, it was degenerating rapidly. If we don’t perform proper maintenance, it might completely lose its vitality after some time.”

Then, in a praising tone, she said, “You did well by not extracting the girl immediately when you transported the active biosentient entity back. Otherwise, the active biosentient entity would have decomposed even more quickly, and we wouldn’t have been able to find any traces of it.”

Chen Chuan nodded. When he brought that active biosentient entity back, it had kept repairing itself, so to prevent Yang Ling from fusing with it, he kept destroying it.

He wasn’t sure whether pulling her out immediately would have any major effects on her, so he left her inside. Thank goodness it ended up being the right thing to do.

“Preserve it,” he said.

The active biosentient entity could provide evidence of what United Might was going to use it for. After all, the calibration done to the active biosentient entity could tell them exactly what it was meant to do.

“I will,” the person-in-charge promised solemnly. When she saw that Chen Chuan had no further orders for her, she bowed and walked out while shutting the office door behind her.

Chen Chuan put his hand on the Realm Pass and asked, “Officer Qin, how are things on your side?”

“We’ve finished interrogations. All of them were willing to testify, but they didn’t know much. I believe only the assistant knows the details, but she’s currently receiving treatment,” Qin Qingque answered.

Chen Chuan grunted at that. He had held back and only destroyed Mrs. Ling’s internal organs. He didn’t kill her because he wanted a testimony from her.

Once they got all the details, they could remove United Might from Jibei Road’s Central City.

While going over things in his head, he heard a chime.

He took a look at his Realm Pass.
