Book 4, Chapter 256: The Fight That Shocked The Entire City
Aunty Bai watched Chen Chuan for a bit before frowning. “Did someone ask you to do this, young man?”
Chen Chuan didn’t answer. Instead, he walked out of the pavilion and said, “I hope that you won’t let me down.”
As he spoke, faint light shone on his body. Soon, it turned into golden-white light that rose up like steam.
Aunty Bai turned back to face him. Jade-white light appeared around her as their biofields started pushing against each other, and cracks showed up at the edges.
At that moment, loud cracks resembling thunder came from the distance. They were deafening, which meant that the power of the explosion was incredibly strong.
Aunty Bai’s expression changed, because she could tell that the sound came from the armory. An explosion there meant that either an enemy attacked or someone from within had set off explosives. She could guess why they would do something like that.
However, Chen Chuan was standing in front of her, so she couldn’t divide her attention to think about it. “This isn’t a good choice, young man,” she said grimly.
“If you don’t want to fight, that’s fine too. We can simply wait here,” Chen Chuan said.
Aunty Bai said nothing else. She brought her sword sheath up, grabbed the sword’s hilt, and drew it out. A blade resembling a mirror came out with a whistle, and a blinding white light shone in the area. Immediately after, the sword arrived in front of Chen Chuan.
At the same time, three figures similar to her appeared on his sides and back. They thrust forward as one.
All four swords missed. Chen Chuan had vanished from his original spot. Only the rumbles from shattered biofields remained in the area.
Aunty Bai’s gaze sharpened. She turned around and delivered a horizontal slash. The spirit flames on her sword turned into a stream of light that was more than twenty meters long. With a loud whoosh, the stream of light swept across the entire lake. In an instant, the top layer of the lake evaporated. Steam rose from the water’s surface.
However, just like before, she didn’t cut anything. Before she could bring her sword back, she saw a glowing fist coming straight at her.
One of the three copies shot forward to block it.
Clang!
It shattered from the power of the fist. Then, the second copy arrived to block it, but it also shattered just like the first. The third copy rushed over, only to be met with the same fate. However, this bought enough time for Aunty Bai to bring her sword back.
In a flash, she swung her sword again. It was fast, ruthless, fierce, and at such a close range that it was difficult to avoid.
Chen Chuan watched the sword come toward him. The jade-white light flashing on it was so bright that when it shone on his face, it turned it snow white, which made his calm eyes stand out even more.
He showed no intention of dodging. Instead, he pushed down on the sword. In an instant, spirit flames flew out from the spot where hand and sword touched while burning away at each other.
Blocking a sword barehanded wasn’t a good idea, since mutated weapons could draw forth and gather more spirit flames. Due to their unique nature, the density of their spirit flames was usually higher than that on the martial arts master themselves. Chen Chuan’s spirit flame faded away faster.
However, he refused to let go of the sword and threw another punch with his other hand.
Aunty Bai was shocked. She had been alive for more than a hundred years and had never seen anyone attack so aggressively, fearlessly, and resolutely right from the start.
They were incredibly close to each other, so she didn’t have any room to dodge. She could only bring her other hand up to block.
Boom!
Sparks from the spirit flames shot out as they burned at each other.
Aunty Bai’s block was swift. While most of her spirit flames were gathered on her sword, she had more experience. When she saw that her spirit flames were burning away quickly, she used her sword to push against Chen Chuan’s punch before the spirit flames on her arm burned away entirely. Then, she used the momentum to retreat, which allowed her to break away and stop Chen Chuan’s offense.
However, to her surprise, Chen Chuan didn’t stop, but chased after her. The spirit flames on his fist shone even brighter.
Boom!
It arrived in front of her. Not only did it break apart her final layer of defense, but also pushed a wave of refined force into her.
It was a two-tier refined force.
Aunty Bai trembled. The refined force caused her body to go numb for a moment. The wind pressure increased, and she saw Chen Chuan closing in yet again.
She quickly moved into a defensive stance, but was a step late. Not much of the refined force had entered her body, so it couldn’t deal significant damage to her, but her mutated tissue was affected a little. This was enough to create a fatal opening in a tense and fast battle.
With a fist shining with golden-white light, Chen Chuan shot forward. This wasn’t a spar. While he wasn’t fighting at full strength, he wasn’t holding his strength and speed back. His spirit flames raged, and wherever he went, a ball of golden-white light flickered around him.
He was fighting in a way that was entirely against how martial arts masters usually fought. In Aunty Bai’s eyes, he had gone berserk.
She couldn’t dodge, and she knew that it was unlikely that she could block the punch, but she was a martial arts master practicing the path of the mental form, so fighting head-on wasn’t her only way of fighting. Light flashed in her eyes and pierced Chen Chuan’s mind like a drill. She intended to jolt him and destroy or weaken his attack. However, the mental attack was completely useless. It was as if it had sunk into a deep sea.
Once Aunty Bai noticed this, she only had the time to bring her arm up to block the punch.
Boom!
The punch extinguished all the spirit flames on her arm and tore through her flesh, then slammed into her face.
Even if she was heavily injured, as a martial arts master, Aunty Bai retained absolute calm. The sacrifice of her arm had earned her enough breathing room to turn her head so that the fist didn’t land directly on her face. Since she had predicted the trajectory of the fist, she was also able to gather all her spirit flames to the point of contact. Even so, her face got smashed in, and she was pushed backward.
Her eyes released a brilliant white light, and her mental energy grew stronger. Her sword responded to it and shone as well. Without even needing her to swing it, it jumped up on its own to swing at Chen Chuan.
It stopped him for a moment, and Aunty Bai used the chance to widen the distance between them. She shot across the lake until she reached the other side so fast that she left behind a deep gorge. It was as if the lake had been split in two with water rising on the sides.
Chen Chuan stopped and grabbed the sword. Then, he brought his other hand up to swipe it against the back of the sword. In an instant, all the spirit flames on it were extinguished. The struggling sword immediately froze. Chen Chuan flipped the sword over and threw it tip first into the ground before looking up.
Aunty Bai’s left forearm had completely disappeared. There were trails of golden-white light coming out of the stump. Half of her face was burnt too, and he could see the bone underneath, along with the golden-white light that stubbornly stayed around it.
They had only exchanged a few blows, but the air that was pushed outward from the area was so fierce that all the trees by the lake had fallen. The rumbling sounds echoing in the air had yet to subside too.
This was part of the residential area of the soldiers, so many people heard the commotion. Their windows trembled violently, while those of the closer houses even shattered.
The residents were stunned. Thunder? On a clear day?
Those who had fought in battle were more sensitive to such sounds and felt that there was something off about them, especially when the first ones sounded far too similar to large-scale explosions. Even though they didn’t know what was going on, they instinctively grabbed their weapons and told their families to head to the underground bunkers. In the meantime, they tried to contact the world outside through their phones and telegraph sets to learn what was going on.
Some of the braver ones ran to their roofs or outside their houses to observe their surroundings through binoculars. Soon, they saw the two people locked in a standoff at the lake.

After hearing the sounds, Han Kuang immediately had Han Cheng bring his family and Yu Wan’s family down to the underground bunker. Meanwhile, he and Nian Qian went outside to observe the situation, and they soon saw the shocking scene outside.
Chen Chuan and Aunty Bai were standing on both ends of the lake with brilliant light shining from their bodies. They no longer looked mortal.
“I-Is that Security Advisor Bai?”
While Han Kuang hadn’t met Aunty Bai before, the municipal government used her as their poster child, and she was idolized by many people.
At that moment, she looked to be in a terrible state. If not for her clothes and the light proving her identity and helping her maintain some dignity, he wouldn’t have believed that it was her.
“Is that... Xiao Chuan?” He then turned to Chen Chuan and found himself completely shocked.
“I-I think so...” Nian Qian’s breathing quickened as he saw the wreckage around the lake. For the first time, he was exposed to the strength of martial arts masters, and what he saw couldn’t be described in words, nor could it be accurately captured in a video.
“What are they doing?”
Han Kuang took a look at the pillars of smoke rising into the sky from the area of the armory. “Looks like something big has happened,” he said grimly.
***
Chen Chuan ignored all that was happening around him. All his attention was on the other end of the lake. “You’re too weak, Senior Bai. Honestly, I’m rather disappointed.”
