Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 4 Chapter 257: Light Cutting Through Filth

Book 4, Chapter 257: Light Cutting Through Filth

Aunty Bai scowled, and anger simmered in her eyes. Chen Chuan’s words seemed to have caused great emotions to stir in her heart, for blinding white light rose from her body to form several thin, long strands of light resembling tendrils behind her. After swaying for a while, they swung forward.

The light from the tendrils was reflected in Chen Chuan’s eyes and instantly became bigger, but the next moment, he struck the tendrils away. Spirit flames shot outward from the points of contact.

He stared at the tendrils and saw from the corner of his eye that his second self had turned a little fainter. Without a doubt, Aunty Bai had drawn power from the other world into the tendrils.

“You’re from the fusion faction, huh?”

He didn’t wait for the light tendrils to hit him again and stepped onto the lake. Just like how Aunty Bai had walked over to him, he walked to the other side of the lake. His golden-white light was reflected on the water, as if it had become one with the reflections of the white clouds in the sky. As everyone watched in shock, he got closer to Aunty Bai.

“Mind your tone, boy. Don’t be too arrogant!” she shouted.

She drew a long hairpin from her hair and wielded it as her weapon. Because of it, her hair fell down. At the same time, she flung her right arm, causing waves to form on the lake. The water under Chen Chuan’s feet surged and made him rise up and down.

Even so, he continued forward. Despite waves roaring under his shoes, he didn’t stop. The splashes from the water only seemed to be serving as platforms for his feet.

Aunty Bai didn’t stay still. With the hairpin in hand, she tapped a foot against the ground and disappeared into a ray of light before thrusting the hairpin at him.

At the same time, she formed multiple copies of herself with her mental energy. They turned into rays of light that charged at Chen Chuan, but they didn’t head straight toward him. Instead, they weaved around each other, causing everyone watching to be unable to tell which one was the real Aunty Bai.

Chen Chuan didn’t avoid them. While walking on the water, he headed straight for one of them. This time, he used the Furnace of Heaven and Earth, so he moved at a much faster pace than before.

He brought his fist up, and the spirit flames on his body burned even brighter. The rays of light reached him and attacked. Yet when they crashed into the powerful light around him, they shattered. When the final ray of light struck, a huge wave rose on the lake and tossed Chen Chuan up. He flipped around in the air and threw a punch at the light.

Boom!

Since he threw this punch from above, he sent Aunty Bai straight into the lake. The impact caused a huge pillar of water to shoot up into the sky and propel Chen Chuan further up. “This one isn’t any different from the last one,” he said calmly while looking down.

The pillar of water fell down, and the lake calmed down. Yet as peace was about to return to the area, ripples formed on the surface of the water, as if the bottom of the lake had started boiling. A white ray of light appeared deep below. It was so bright that it was dazzling.

Chen Chuan kept his eyes trained down. An outline of a woman that seemed to be entirely made of light was at the bottom of the lake. Since it was only an outline, he couldn’t see its facial features.

Aunty Bai walked down the path of the mental form, so she could switch her physical body multiple times or get power without doing that. She had taken the second option. This not only made her body go through certain changes that made it more suited for the path of the mental form, but her body also became nourishment for her mind when she was far enough down her path.

However, this required a solid physical foundation. If it wasn’t strong enough, she would be unable to complete her path. This didn’t mean there was no way to build a foundation later. One way of doing it was to draw external power into herself, such as using or stealing energy from existences from the other world to strengthen her foundation.

Yet merging with such power was a long process, and she would need to suppress it at all times so that she wouldn’t get corrupted. That was why she never dared to fight at full power. However, she was livid now, so she no longer held back and decided to fight at full power.

Two brilliant rays of light came from where her face was, as if she had opened her eyes.

The large woman then rushed out from the bottom of the lake, and her hairpin, which had turned into a sword, came straight for Chen Chuan.

Along with the hairpin traveled a powerful mental energy that pressed down on Chen Chuan so hard that it almost extinguished the raging spirit flames on his body. While it couldn’t restrict him, it affected his movements.

Just as the woman’s body showed up, a reflection of it became visible in the vapor that had formed above the lake due to their fight. Aunty Bai’s mental energy was attached to the vapor.

The woman of light drifted down silently and thrust her hairpin at Chen Chuan’s back.

Chen Chuan didn’t turn around to look. In the face of the pincer attack, he jumped up with the help of the waves under his feet and flipped in the air. The light on his body grew even brighter, casting the lake in a golden-white light.

At that moment, the attacks from both directions touched his body, but the highly concentrated spirit flames made the two women feel as if they had attacked a thick wall. Sparks flew out, but the tips of their blades weren’t able to sink into their target.

Chen Chuan had used a body hardening-type refined force.

Once he blocked the attacks, his counterattack came. He turned the body hardening-type refined force into firm force, and with a spin, he generated such immense power that all the spirit flames on his body surged out from his forearm and feet. Then, with a graceful twist, he attacked both of the women.

Crack!

It was as if something had shattered. Cracks appeared on the two women before they exploded. Sparks of light flew in every direction, and the shockwave from the impact caused the water underneath to shoot out in all directions.

Chen Chuan flipped again in the air and used the recoil to land on the ground. The light on his body faded away.

After a while, the water that had been pushed to the side returned to the center and fell back down from the sky. The residents who had come out felt a few drops land on their faces.

As the water surged, Aunty Bai’s body was pushed out from below. It was heavily damaged. She had lost one arm and a leg, so she was almost unrecognizable. Wisps of golden-white light rose from her burnt body.

Chen Chuan approached her slowly. Before the water droplets landed on her body, the light from his body evaporated them, and they rose into the sky along with the wisps of light.

He had used the Blinding Blaze in his final attack to strike at Aunty Bai’s mind. Many of the secret techniques from the purity faction were made specifically to target the existences from the other world, so they were incredibly destructive when it came to corruption and power from the other world.

Hence, almost all of the power Aunty Bai had fused with from the other world had scattered under the attack. Such violent destruction of it had caused incredible harm to her and put her at death’s door, but the great vitality of a martial arts master kept her alive.

Of course, Chen Chuan didn’t choose to spare her out of good will. His faction member had requested him to hold her back, not to kill her. If he did, it would only lead to problems.

He looked at Aunty Bai and said, “It’s no wonder he said that you only care about what’s happening now. It’s because you fused with the energy from some existence from the other world that strengthened you. You must have stayed in Central City most of the time and rarely fought against other people, right? But if you don’t fight and polish your skills, you won’t be able to win and understand what we’re striving for.”

“You only won against me, young man. You can’t win against them,” Aunty Bai said feebly.

She was likely referring to the existences from the other world, but she could also be talking about some organization or group.

“What exactly is making you think that they can’t be defeated?” Chen Chuan asked calmly.

Aunty Bai said nothing else.

He cast her another glance. “Senior Bai, before this matter ends, please stay here.”

He headed back to the remains of the pavilion, which had collapsed from the shockwaves of the fight, and pulled out the sword he had plunged into the ground.

If the operation went smoothly, Aunty Bai wouldn’t be able to resume as the security advisor of Shannan Road. She might even be detained. So, it was completely fine for him to take her sword as spoils of war. He was pretty sure that Aunty Bai wouldn’t mind.

Just then, he heard the sound of propellers and looked up. Multiple combat airships were flying in the same direction, though he couldn’t tell just which organization they belonged to.

Chen Chuan didn’t worry about it, because the side being attacked had just lost their top fighter, so there was no way they could turn the tide.

The purity faction wasn’t the only one participating in the operation. Various government departments were also involved, like Mrs. Ling’s organization. If he wasn’t mistaken, she should be from the National General Affairs Bureau, so all he needed to do was wait for the results.
