Chapter 2060 - 42: You’re More Important

Chapter 2060: Chapter 42: You’re More Important

Wufu placed her son on the bed and, seeing Ah Jiu entering, put her index finger to her lips and shushed him. Ah Jiu immediately lightened his steps and closed the door quietly.

"Is he asleep?" Ah Jiu walked over and glanced at him.

Wufu nodded: "I just fed him."

Ah Jiu stiffened, pulling her into his arms and said, "Lan City has been taken. Once we return, we’ll find a wet nurse."

Wufu frowned, "Are you displeased?"

Nursing can cause a woman’s breasts to change shape, and some men are not fond of this. Is Ah Jiu one of them?

"Why would I be displeased?" Ah Jiu held her arms, gently rubbing them, and said, "Wufu, your body is too depleted, too frail. Nursing will further drain your energy. Our son is important, but you are more important to me."

In aristocratic families, no child has grown up without a wet nurse’s milk, and few have been directly breastfed.

Ah Jiu’s concern was not pressured by family rules but was for her health. Wufu’s current condition wouldn’t hold up to personal nursing anymore.

As long as there is a wet nurse, the son will be well-fed, but Wufu’s health is singular, much more important to him.

He could go without a son, but not without Wufu.

She was his life.

Wufu felt a slight relief and huffed, "Just seeing you, and you’re already taking our son’s sustenance. If he grows up, beware that he might not be close to you."

Ah Jiu held her closer, feeling her bony back that hurt his hand, and his guilt deepened. "I believe our son is sensible; he’ll understand your situation and agree with my decision."

"In truth, even if I wanted to nurse him now, I’m unable. My milk is insufficient, and for the past couple of days, Aunt has been helping me feed him," Wufu said, leaning against his embrace.

Ah Jiu felt a pang of sorrow, holding her tight: "I’m sorry."

"You must treat our son and me well in the future," Wufu said, absorbing his warmth and nuzzling his neck.

"Yes, we will never be apart again," Ah Jiu said, "No one can separate us."

Wufu raised her head, meeting his gaze.

Ah Jiu tugged at her clothes, and Wufu glared, "What are you doing?"

This guy, doesn’t he know she just gave birth?

"What are you thinking? I’m checking your injuries." With his strength, Ah Jiu quickly removed her clothes. The once smooth and fair skin now bore fresh wounds, poorly treated, especially on her back where it seemed no proper care had been given.

Wufu could feel the chill on her back and hurriedly turned around. Sure enough, she saw unshed tears in his eyes and said, "Look at you, a man crying over this?"

"Didn’t you see the doctor? How is this?" Seeing those wounds, Ah Jiu felt as if they were carved on his own flesh, wishing he could suffer them instead.

It pained him to death, pained him so.

Wufu dressed and said, "Doctor Cheng is a male doctor. I’ve been using the medicine Aunt gave me."

Ah Jiu pressed his lips, "I’ll redo it for you later."

Wufu agreed, just about to speak when a clatter of hooves and noise came from outside.

The two exchanged a glance, on guard.

"Prince, Princess Consort." Yuan Ye requested at the door, "Young Master Han requests an audience with the Princess Consort."

Wufu was somewhat surprised. Young Master Han, is that Master Gui?

"He’s been searching for you, and upon receiving news, I informed him," Ah Jiu explained.

Wufu beamed a smile, reaching her eyes; she knew Master Gui wouldn’t betray her.
