I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 395: Strange Behaviour

Chapter 395: Strange Behaviour

Step...

Step..

Step.

As Yi Chen made his way in and started walking through the corridor, he found a few disciples who were standing around there with their rooms’ doors open, busy cleaning and arranging their newly assigned quarters.

Hearing his footsteps, their attention was naturally piqued, making them turn to look in his direction. The moment that happened, Yi Chen saw their eyes widen with surprise.

’Well...after seeing me getting stopped by the Patriarch and the rest earlier, it’s only natural for them to have such a reaction.’

Yi Chen thought to himself as he ignored those surprised faces and continued walking forward.

’100...099...098...’

He mentally noted down the room numbers written on the top of each door frame as he walked past them while thinking to himself, ’Since the ground floor only has a hundred rooms, then room 127 must be on the first floor...’

With that thought, he stopped looking around and started walking straight towards the end of the corridor hoping to find the staircase.

While at it, he naturally heard a few whispers from the disciples he walked past. However, he wasn’t in the least bit affected by it and kept walking forward.

’Compared to them, I’m more interested in that group over there...’

Yi Chen muttered inwardly while turning to look to his right. In the middle of the rectangular courtyard, a large group of disciples were huddled around something.

From the way the disciples standing on the outer periphery were trying to lean inwards, Yi Chen could tell that whatever it was that was going on in the centre was something that successfully managed to pull all their attention.

’Just what the hell are they looking at...’

Yi Chen thought, with curiosity evident in his eyes. However, that curiosity still wasn’t enough to make him go there and investigate.

As a result, he was about to turn his head away and continue walking forward to look for the stairs, but just then one of the several disciples who was huddled near the outer periphery turned around as if sensing Yi Chen’s intense gaze.

The moment their eyes met, an expression of surprise immediately formed on the disciple’s face, but compared to the reactions Yi Chen had grown familiar with by now, it was several times more intense.

’This...why is he staring at me so intently?’

Yi Chen couldn’t help but frown when he noticed the disciple’s gaze that grew more and more fervent with each passing millisecond.

’Could it be...’

Yi Chen instantly turned around to look behind him, only to see an empty corridor with a few disciples whom he had just passed by standing near the walls while their attention was still focused on him.

’N-No, there’s no one behind me...’

Meanwhile, the disciple who had just noticed Yi Chen suddenly grabbed one of his mates who was busy listening to whatever was taking place in the group’s centre.

"What?! Don’t disturb me!" The disciple’s friend immediately shrugged off his hand, not paying any attention to his words.

"Brother Fan...it’s important."

Not taking Brother Fan’s words into account, the disciple said the next moment, poking Brother Fan in the sides.

"Stop poking me, you pig! Can’t you see I’m busy listening to him?"

Brother Fan roared the next moment, irritation evident in his tone, but still too engrossed in the happenings of the group to even spare a glance at his friend.

Meanwhile, despite seeing his mate’s rudeness, the disciple wasn’t discouraged and called out to him once again, this time making sure to poke even harder than usual.

"You don’t understand...he’s here!"

The moment Brother Fan felt the intense poke near the sides of his abdomen, he finally lost all patience and exploded there and then.

"WHO’S HERE, YOU BASTARD?! Just why do you keep..."

However, before Brother Fan could continue further, his eyes followed the direction in which his friend’s finger was pointing before finally settling on Yi Chen.

Seeing this, his entire body tensed up as he couldn’t help but draw a sharp breath the very next second.

"...S-Senior Brother Yi Chen!"

He exclaimed at the top of his voice, making several other disciples turn around as well.

"This..."

"That...isn’t that..."

"It’s really Senior Brother Chen!"

"He’s here!"

From two it turned to three, and from three to six, and then, just like a series of tumbling dominoes, all the disciples gathered there started turning their heads one after the other in curiosity before their confused gazes finally found their way towards Yi Chen.

Meanwhile, feeling the large number of eyes, all of them radiating an intense amount of awe and admiration, Yi Chen felt even more confused.

’Just what...’

Creases began to appear on his forehead as he was finding it extremely difficult to make sense of what was happening at the moment.

’...While I know that after what had happened earlier it’s normal for me to stand out among them...but isn’t this reaction a little too extreme?’

It was right at that moment Yi Chen noticed a stir in the centre of the group, which was also noticed by the adjacent disciples.

Making way the next moment, they readily allowed the person whom they had been huddled around all this while to pass through.

He had an above-average face, moderately long hair, a toned body and a height much smaller than an average adult.

"Q-Qin Yao??"

Yi Chen couldn’t help but call out with confusion clearly written on his face the moment he saw Qin Yao making his way out from the centre of the group.

Meanwhile, meeting Yi Chen’s gaze, Qin Yao smiled brightly before rushing towards him the very next moment.

"Brother Chen, you’re finally here!" Qin Yao exclaimed with a cheery smile and was about to ask where he had been all this while, but was stopped by Yi Chen’s flurry of questions.

"Qin Yao, you...what were you doing in the centre of that group...and what’s with all their gazes? Why are they staring at me with such intense emotions?"

"Ah, that."

A proud smile instantly appeared on Qin Yao’s face the moment he heard that question as he answered while pointing towards the tens of disciples behind him.

"After you were gone, they all became extremely curious about you and kept asking me various things about you again and again.

Seeing that so many of them were interested in knowing more about Brother Chen, I decided to share all your accolades with them in a single sitting after we were done with our dinner.

Therefore, for the past hour, I’ve been sharing your entire story, from how you arrived at the Feng Clan, how you helped me at the clan when I was in need and your monstrous cultivation speed.

Just now I was narrating the Inter Clan tournament to them while specially focusing on how you single-handedly saved the Feng Clan by incessantly dealing with tens of Meridian Refinement Stage cultivators who were several layers above you in the Meridian Refinement Stage one after the other!" [A/N: I’ll start referring to ’levels’ as ’layers’ from now on.]

Qin Yao finished speaking with excitement evident on his face, as even his breathing had turned a little heavy because of his emotions as he continued.

"Needless to say, they all have become huge fans of yours, and that’s the very reason why they are all staring at you so intently hahaha!"

Qin Yao let out a chuckle after finishing his words.

The next moment, he glanced towards the group of cultivators who had been standing right at their spot all this while, hesitant to move even an inch, and said.

"Why are you all still standing there? Didn’t you all have a lot of questions about how Brother Chen managed to do it? Come and ask him yourself."

Qin Yao said with a smile on his face while gesturing for them to come forward.

The moment he heard those words, the last thread of hesitancy that had been holding them back finally broke as they immediately arrived next to Yi Chen.

"Senior Brother Chen, I also want to be like you."

"Hey, let me speak!"

"Why should I? Brother Chen, how long do you train daily?!"

"...Brother Chen, how were you able to beat someone at the Ninth Layer when you were only at the fifth?"

.

.

.

All kinds of questions flooded Yi Chen’s ears the very next moment, and instead of answering them, Yi Chen glanced towards Qin Yao, who was looking towards him with an expression saying that there was no need for Yi Chen to go out of his way and thank him.

"..."

However, suddenly remembering something, Qin Yao immediately waved his hands towards the disciples.

"Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait!"

Qin Yao shouted while continuously waving his hands at them before finally managing to quiet them after a couple of seconds.

The very next moment, he instantly turned towards Yi Chen and asked with interest brimming in his eyes.

"Brother Chen, earlier, why did the Peak Masters ask you to stay there longer? What did they want to discuss with you?"
