Chapter 396: Reaching his Room
The moment that question left Qin Yao’s mouth, several murmurs arose among the group of cultivators, as they too were just as curious as Qin Yao, if not more, to know why Yi Chen had been held back earlier.
As a result, dozens of gazes brimming with curiosity all converged in Yi Chen’s direction the very next moment.
Feeling so many gazes, Yi Chen took a couple of deep breaths to maintain his bearing and, while looking towards Qin Yao, answered.
"It was just because of curiosity. The peak masters had never seen someone with a peak-grade spirit root, so they wanted to personally see me and ask a few questions related to my cultivation journey and the challenges I faced while cultivating so far."
Yi Chen lied without batting an eye and continued.
"Once their curiosity was satiated, they told me to keep working hard so that I can soon become an Inner Sect Disciple, as I’m already at the Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage. That’s all there was to it."
"So that’s how it is... looks like I’ll have to push myself even harder...Otherwise Brother Chen will leave me behind."
Qin Yao nodded in realisation and muttered with a serious expression on his face. It was evident that he fully believed Yi Chen’s words, finding no discrepancy in them whatsoever.
However, that didn’t mean that others would be just as trusting of him, as right at that instant a question came from someone in the crowd.
"This...if it was just this that had been discussed, then why did it take Senior Brother Chen almost three hours to arrive here? Surely, the two things Brother Chen had mentioned wouldn’t have taken so many hours, right?"
The moment Yi Chen heard those words, his eyes instantly searched for the person in the crowd who had asked this question before finally landing upon him.
He was a cultivator who was in his early twenties, just three years older than Yi Chen. While he wasn’t wearing any luxurious robes, the way he was dressed looked sharp, and the ever-curious glint in his eyes made him stand out as a scholarly person.
However, despite these outer features, which were enough for one to have a respectable first impression of him, Yi Chen’s opinion of the fellow disciple fell to rock bottom the moment his eyes fell on him.
’Fuck! That’s why I hate smart people! If you had just kept that bloody mouth of yours shut, everything would have been so much easier...’ he cursed inwardly.
However, despite thinking in such a manner, Yi Chen didn’t let an iota of what was going on in his mind appear on his face. Instead, he started chuckling while staring at the disciple in an embarrassed manner.
"Hahaha...I wanted to keep it hidden as the matter felt too embarrassing to be shared, but it seems you’ve outsmarted me, brother..."
"Dong Yun...that’s my name, Senior Brother Chen," the disciple answered respectfully, feeling a little flattered that Yi Chen was asking for his name.
"So, it’s Brother Dong Yun..."
’This dog-like bastard...I’ll remember that name of yours.’ Yi Chen snorted with irritation while trying hard to prevent his face from twitching.
"...So yeah." Letting out a breath the next second, Yi Chen continued, "Everyone here must already have heard from Elder Yu Xong that once we become Inner Sect disciples, we must choose a peak to reside on, right?"
"Yes."
Almost all of them nodded their heads when they heard this, as this was something Elder Yu Xong had briefed them on just a few hours ago.
"So that’s also what the peak masters wanted to discuss with me. They wanted me to choose their peaks after I have entered the Qi Absorption Stage.
Therefore, one by one, they all told me the philosophy of their respective peaks, telling me how it would be a more suitable place for me to grow as an Inner Sect Disciple in the future."
Yi Chen answered, mixing a lot of lies with sprinkles of truth.
"Wow..."
"...This."
"Amazing..."
"Senior Brother Chen had just joined the sect today, and all the sect’s peak masters are already interested in him!"
"Senior Brother Chen, when you rise above, please don’t forget me here..."
Hearing the last comment, Yi Chen’s lips couldn’t help but twitch. ’Forget you? Brother...I need to know your name first in order to even consider doing that...’
Yi Chen thought, with a bitter expression evident on his face.
Meanwhile, sensing that Yi Chen’s mood had started to turn irritable, Qin Yao realised that it wasn’t the best time to have him interact with others, thereby telling others to stop.
"Alright. Alright... everyone, that’s enough for today. It seems Brother Chen has started to grow tired because of just how hectic his entire day has been. As for the questions which many of you have, you can ask them tomorrow morning as he’ll naturally be living with all of us in the quarters."
Qin Yao stated as the incessant questions coming from the group began to die out the very next moment as the excited mood in the air deflated.
Not taking their reactions into account, Qin Yao immediately turned toward Yi Chen and asked, "Brother Chen, what’s your number? I’ll take you there."
"Oh, it’s 127. What is your room number?" Yi Chen asked in return.
"Ah! That’s close to mine! My room number is 119, and as luck would have it, both of us are on the same floor!"
Qin Yao explained, with excitement evident on his face
That exchange naturally piqued the interest of several other disciples who started whispering among themselves after hearing Yi Chen’s room number.
"So, his room is 127..."
"Who lives besides him?"
"I want to exchange rooms with the people living beside Senior Brother Chen..."
"Dream on! Just who in their right mind would change their rooms after knowing that it’s Senior Brother Chen who is living beside them?!"
Not paying any attention to the group’s discussion, Qin Yao immediately started guiding Yi Chen towards the staircase before the two of them finally made their way to the first floor.
"Brother Chen, when I got to know that we would be staying in just a single room, I was quite devastated, thinking it would be extremely cramped inside. However, after seeing the rooms myself, I realised that that wasn’t the case at all..."
"Oh?" Yi Chen raised his brows in interest and continued listening to him.
"...Each individual room is so much more spacious than I had ever thought, and therefore, Brother Chen, you can rest assured that you also won’t face any problem adjusting in it."
With that said, Qin Yao continued explaining a few miscellaneous things about the residential quarters before finally arriving in front of Yi Chen’s room.
"127...Here’s your room, Brother Chen." Qin Yao said while gesturing towards the door and asked, "Do you want my help with the cleaning and arranging?" Qin Yao asked proactively.
However, Yi Chen just shook his head when he heard those words. "No, that won’t be necessary, Brother Qin. Thank you for your help."
He paused for a moment and continued, "Moreover, it’s already getting late now, so you should hurry up and go rest, since tomorrow is going to be our first official day as Outer Sect Disciples."
"Yes, I’ll do exactly that then, Brother Chen."
Qin Yao nodded with an expectant smile before finally leaving towards his room.
"Now then, let’s enter."
Yi Chen muttered as he took out the key and, after unlocking it, pushed open the door.
A spacious room, just as Qin Yao had described, came into view the next moment.
A bed was kept next to the wall to his left, with freshly prepared bedding neatly folded on top of the mattress.
On the other side of the wall, there was a wooden cupboard, while a circular mat lay on the floor in the middle.
Apart from these items, the room was practically empty, with just a window present on the opposite side of the entrance door.
"Mhmm, not bad at all." Yi Chen nodded to himself the next moment.
However, despite looking clean from a distance, Yi Chen could still notice the dust particles that must have entered through the window and were resting on the white flooring.
’Since I’m too lazy to be bothered, I might as well try that...’ Yi Chen chuckled to himself, thinking of a way to clean his room without moving even a finger.
Taking advantage of his spiritual energy, he swept the dust particles in the room in a particular direction with considerable force, making them all gather in a particular spot.
With that done, controlling them altogether, the dust particles flew out of the room the next moment.
’Easy peasy...’
Yi Chen muttered with a smile while leaning on the wall before focusing his attention on the bedding.
The bedding that had been neatly folded on the bed soon rose up in the air and started unfurling itself on its own before being neatly placed on the bed.
"All done..." He muttered with a smile while looking at his neat and tidy room.
Because of how exhausted he was after a long and tiring day, his eyes naturally fell on the bed, which he had just prepared after being done with cleaning.
It seemed to be calling him in its embrace.
However, Yi Chen didn’t get swayed by his feelings.
’Since I have received the 3x buff with so much difficulty, wasting even a day would leave a bitter feeling in my mind...’
While thinking this, he soon focused his gaze on the circular mat before sitting cross-legged on top of it.
"Oh? It’s more comfortable than I thought..." Yi Chen muttered with an impressed smile before finally immersing himself in his cultivation.
