Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 707 - 706: Name It After You

Chapter 707: Chapter 706: Name It After You

Just past ten on Saturday morning, Gu Lin, the deputy chief of cardiac surgery at the Affiliated Hospital, and Ni Leixing, a senior attending physician, made their way leisurely to a private room on the second floor of Xinlei Tea House near the hospital’s family housing complex.

Pushing the door open, the two of them saw Liang Zhao Kui, Deng Chunming, and Zhang Shi’an had already arrived and were leisurely sipping tea.

Gu Lin sat down in an empty seat by the tea table and chuckled. "I heard that kid yesterday couldn’t hold it until the end of the surgery because he had to pee."

"The kid’s out of shape. He’s not even as tough as us old-timers. He really needs to work on his physical fitness."

Liang Zhao Kui snorted, bluntly calling him out. "Mr. Gu, don’t flatter yourself."

"Everyone knows your routine. You start preparing a day in advance, eating and drinking less, and you even wear an extra-large diaper into the operating room."

Gu Lin immediately flared up and retorted, "Look who’s talking! You’re no better than me."

At this point, Ni Leixing stepped in to mediate. "Alright, you two, that’s enough. Why even bring this up? It’s not like we don’t all know each other’s little secrets."

As experts in cardiac surgery, the men present typically handled major operations that were both difficult and lengthy.

After so many years in the profession, every single one of them had developed some sort of urinary system issue.

Seeing that the two had stopped bickering, Ni Leixing changed the subject. "Mr. Liang, you didn’t call us all over here just for tea, did you?"

Liang Zhao Kui smiled faintly and took out several printed documents. As he handed them out, he explained, "This is the post-op report that kid sent me in the early hours of the morning. Have a look."

Ni Leixing took one and quickly scanned the beginning.

"Ensure seamless integration between organ transport and the surgery?"

Ni Leixing sighed softly. "I’ve thought about doing this before."

"But we have to plan for that one-in-a-million chance. What if there’s an accident during organ transport after we’ve already removed the patient’s heart?"

"That’s a responsibility we simply can’t bear."

Ni Leixing looked at Liang Zhao Kui and warned, "Mr. Liang, you have to talk this kid out of it."

"Sometimes, accidents aren’t the scariest part. Human nature is."

"And Yan is a tall tree that catches the wind."

Liang Zhao Kui nodded. "I’ll warn him. Keep reading. The next part is the most important."

Ni Leixing continued reading the report.

As he read on, he couldn’t help but let out a surprised "Huh..."

Heart transplant surgery has become a standardized procedure, with established requirements for every single step.

The lead surgeon might make minor modifications based on their personal surgical habits or the patient’s specific condition, but that’s about it.

But in his report, Yan Feifan proposed an entirely new surgical plan.

Two lead surgeons, working in tandem.

Yan Feifan’s report was extremely detailed. He described, step by step, things like the positioning of the two lead surgeons and how they could perform their respective tasks without interfering with one another.

Because the two surgeons would be working simultaneously, they would need staggered workspaces, which in turn meant the required length of the arteries and veins harvested from the donor heart would also have to change.

Yan Feifan had considered this as well and even provided reference data.

The report also included more than a dozen hand-drawn diagrams to accompany the text, illustrating how to achieve the staggered, non-interfering positions for a simultaneous dual-surgeon operation.

Ni Leixing reread Yan Feifan’s description two or three times and simulated the procedure in his mind. When he looked up, he saw that Gu Lin, Zhang Shi’an, and the others were all deep in thought.

He mused aloud, "Yan’s proposal is well-conceived and presented. At first glance, it seems highly feasible."

"But there’s one serious problem..."

"This surgical plan requires two experienced cardiac surgeons working together with exceptional coordination to complete."

"That’s a clear waste of manpower."

Gu Lin tapped his knuckles rhythmically on the tea table and said, "According to Yan’s calculations, with two surgeons collaborating like this, the operating time can be cut from over six hours to just four."

"With that kind of efficiency, it wouldn’t be a waste of manpower."

Gu Lin chuckled. "If this plan is actually feasible, don’t you think it’s practically tailor-made for us?"

"We can manage a little over four hours. It would even allow us to maintain a high level of performance for the entire operation."

Liang Zhao Kui chuckled. "That’s what I was thinking, too."

He sighed again. "There’s no use fighting old age."

"After yesterday’s surgery, I got home and my family spent a good hour or two giving me massages and a hot foot soak."

"But even now, I still don’t feel fully recovered."

Liang Zhao Kui pointed to the documents on the table again. "Putting everything else aside," he said, "and regardless of how many lead surgeons are involved, cutting the operating time by two hours is fantastic news for heart transplant patients."

Just then, Zhang Shi’an stood up and said impatiently, "What’s the use of just sitting here talking?"

"Yan gave us the plan, and it’s incredibly detailed."

"Let’s go. We’ll head to the hospital lab and run a practical simulation to see how feasible this really is..."

Yan Feifan climbed out of bed just in time for lunch.

The previous night, he had been focused on shortening the duration of heart transplant surgeries, mulling over how to improve the procedure.

As luck would have it, an idea came to him quickly, and he got into the zone.

By the time Yan Feifan had hammered out the plan for the dual-surgeon procedure, it was already past two in the morning.

He emailed the finished post-op report to Mr. Liang, then slept soundly until almost noon.

When he got up, he discovered that Yu Chuanbai and his fiancée had already arrived.

Yan Feifan noticed that, compared to the last time they’d met, Yu Chuanbai had gotten much tanner and thinner.

A bit of conversation revealed that Yu Chuanbai had been in Su Bei all this time, personally leading the company’s sales team as they traveled through cities and towns.

They visited every single medical institution, large or small, to pitch their infusion controllers.

At the dining table, Yu Chuanbai spoke with confidence. "Honestly, the goal wasn’t sales volume. It was mainly to train and develop the company’s sales team."

"Right now, the company’s sales channels are heavily dependent on the Baining and Baiyulan groups."

"We’re in the honeymoon phase of our partnership for now, so negotiations are still easy."

"But if a conflict of interest arises down the line and they try to squeeze us on our sales channels or demand better terms, our situation will be much better if we have a team that’s ready to fight."

Yan Feifan approved of Yu Chuanbai’s foresight and awareness of potential crises.

Speaking as a major shareholder, he offered some words of concern, "You still need to look after your health. Skyscrapers aren’t built in a day."

Yu Chuanbai chuckled. "Feifan, you should come see the company."

"You don’t even have to supervise the employees. Every single one of them voluntarily works overtime."

"When the employees are all striving so hard, I, as the general manager, have to lead by example. I can’t afford to slack off."

He added with feeling, "Glorious success is right there in front of us. That’s more effective than any grand rhetoric, promises, or incentives. The employees are all fired up and charging ahead, refusing to be left behind."

Yan Feifan laughed. "I’ll suggest that Song Yi prepare big red envelopes for everyone at the company."

"They’re definitely looking forward to the red envelopes."

"But they have an even bigger goal..."

Yu Chuanbai said, his voice full of fighting spirit, "Feifan, everyone in the company is united with a common purpose. We’re striving to take the company public within five years."

Yan Feifan agreed. "I also hope we can smoothly achieve our goal of going public..."

Yan Feifan didn’t do any work at lunchtime or for the rest of the afternoon.

He, his sister, Su Ye, and Xiaoyu spent their time with Yu Chuanbai, his fiancée, and Su Ru, just chatting and catching up.

Since it was the weekend and Du Qiu had gone home, and since none of them were particularly good cooks, they decided to go out for dinner.

On the way to the Jinxiu Grand Hotel, Yan Feifan received a call from Director Liang Zhao Kui.

"Feifan, your plan is actually feasible."

"We ran a simulation. Due to our lack of coordination and a few other things, the full procedure took five and a half hours."

"But it proved that your plan is viable..."

Liang Zhao Kui’s voice was full of excitement on the call. "We’ve unanimously decided... to name this surgical method after you..."
