Chapter 759: Chapter 758: Brimming with Confidence
With only rumors and speculation to go on, Yan Feifan could only ask her to conduct a secret investigation for him to see if she could uncover any concrete leads or evidence.
This time, Li Yun didn’t make any excuses over the phone about reporting to her superiors or waiting for a decision from her leadership.
She stated directly to Yan Feifan in a serious tone that she would mobilize her organization’s resources to secretly and thoroughly investigate the matter.
After ending his call with Li Yun, Yan Feifan also made an agreement with Wang Chuan.
The matter was to be kept strictly confidential and not mentioned to anyone.
Unless, of course, the investigation confirmed their suspicions.
After all, if a story like this were to spread through the hospital and into the public, it would trigger massive negative speculation and create considerable social repercussions.
Without conclusive evidence, neither Yan Feifan nor Wang Chuan could afford to face such consequences...
A little over an hour later, Yan Feifan performed a basic examination on Tang Qing, who had just woken up from the anesthesia.
Today’s procedure, her second, was not the final one. She would still require a refinement surgery in another month or two.
However, this third surgery would be much less extensive than the first one and the one she had today.
According to Yan Feifan’s plan, if everything went smoothly, the third surgery would be a minor cosmetic procedure.
Tang Qing wouldn’t even need to be hospitalized; she could come in and go home on the same day.
After confirming that Tang Qing was fine post-recovery, Yan Feifan saw that it was time to get off work and headed straight back to Zuimo Court.
Today was the last day before the National Day holiday.
The National Day holiday didn’t hold much real significance for Yan Feifan. He still had a considerable amount of work to do the following week.
When Yan Feifan returned to his residence, he was surprised to see Tian Yu running frantically toward him from the kitchen.
"Mr. Yan, I just heard you were sick a couple of days ago? And that it was serious?"
Yan Feifan patted Xiaoyu’s head and chuckled. "It was just a fever and a cold from the change in seasons. I’m all better now."
He noticed her mouth was greasy and couldn’t help but chide her, "Were you sneaking food from the kitchen again?"
Tian Yu giggled, accompanied Yan Feifan to the living room sofa, and sat down before wiping her mouth and hands with a tissue.
"I wasn’t sneaking food. I was helping Mrs. Lan taste the dishes."
She then exclaimed, "Mr. Yan, Mrs. Lan’s cooking is so delicious! It’s a million times better than our cafeteria’s food. It’s unbelievably good."
Yan Feifan smiled. "I tried your cafeteria’s food once, on the day I took you to school. It tasted pretty good."
Tian Yu said with a huff, "Mr. Yan, don’t even bring that up. The cafeteria food was only decent for the first few days of the semester."
"Then it went from bad to worse. It’s gotten more and more disgusting."
Yan Feifan let out a soft "Oh," then said, "If it’s really that bad, you can come here for dinner."
"It’s only a few stops away. You shouldn’t get lost."
Tian Yu’s face blossomed with joy. Acting like a spoiled little girl, she began nuzzling her head against Yan Feifan’s shoulder.
"I knew you were the best to me, Mr. Yan!"
Yan Feifan quickly pushed her head away, saying with a look of mock disgust, "Your hair smells like cooking oil. Don’t get my clothes dirty."
"Go help in the kitchen..."
Around 6:30 in the evening, Yan Ziruo, Yu Suye, and the evening’s dinner guest, Yu Youwen, all arrived together.
According to the original plan, Yu Beihua had also been invited to this family dinner for Yu Youwen.
Unfortunately, Yan Feifan had suddenly come up with the idea the previous night to send a patient to Baining Hospital for an examination.
With his connections and convenient location, Yu Beihua was the natural choice to be the doctor in charge of coordinating and escorting the patient, a responsibility he readily accepted.
But while the dinner table was missing Yu Beihua, it had gained a little foodie: Tian Yu.
The young girl had originally planned to stay and play at the Yan Family’s home during the weekend of Shu Lei and Liu Xia’s wedding.
But Mr. and Mrs. Tian, figuring the Yan Family would have many guests over those two days, had picked Xiaoyu up and taken her back home.
Now, with the National Day holiday starting, the little rascal had run straight over with her schoolbag right after her Saturday classes ended...
After everyone sat down, with hosts and guest taking their respective seats, Yu Youwen said very politely, "Mr. Yan, thank you for your generous hospitality."
"Before I came, my cousin Youyi made a point to tell me that you, Mr. Yan, are a rare medical genius. He said that after receiving your guidance, he was finally able to take a step forward after being stuck for a long time."
"Over the past two days, as my understanding of the penile reconstruction surgery has deepened, I’ve come to a profound realization..."
Yu Youwen shook his head and sighed lightly. "Mr. Yan, your unparalleled talent is truly something to behold. It’s impossible not to be impressed."
"I hope that in the future, Mr. Yan, you won’t hesitate to offer your guidance."
Yan Feifan chuckled. "Dr. Yu, you’re exaggerating. I’ve just had a few fortuitous insights, that’s all."
"As for guidance, that’s saying too much. Let’s call it a mutual exchange of ideas!"
After a brief pause, Yan Feifan continued, "As for the penile reconstruction surgery, Su Ye is the one leading it now."
"The procedure still needs input from various other departments for it to be further refined."
"Dr. Yu, we’re practically family now, so Su Ye will be counting on your full support in her work!"
Yu Youwen chuckled. "Mr. Yan, at Baining Hospital, in a professional setting, we don’t distinguish between generations or seniority."
"The same goes for here."
"Su Ye is my superior now. If I don’t listen and follow her instructions, she has every right to send me packing."
Yu Suye smiled, pressing her lips together. "Uncle, you’re joking. I wouldn’t be so bold."
Yu Youwen’s smile faded. "Mr. Yan, Su Ye, before I came here, the hospital director specifically spoke with me."
"He said that if they could have found a suitable candidate from the younger generation, both in terms of specialty and skill, this learning opportunity wouldn’t have come to me."
"I cherish this opportunity immensely, especially now that I have a better understanding of the actual results of the penile reconstruction surgery."
Yu Youwen declared solemnly, "Su Ye, just treat me as your work assistant."
"Don’t hold back. Criticize me when necessary, order me around as you see fit. I won’t have any complaints whatsoever."
Yu Suye raised her glass of red wine. "Uncle, since you put it that way, I’m going to take you at your word."
"There will surely be times in our work ahead where I might overstep, so I’ll apologize in advance."
Yu Youwen raised his own glass of red wine and drained it in one gulp.
"Su Ye, I was once a student and an assistant, and now I have students and assistants of my own."
"I understand that the stricter a mentor is, the more they’re looking out for you."
"Su Ye, don’t worry about our family relationship or status. Just approach it professionally and do what needs to be done."
Yu Youwen then glanced at Yan Feifan and said, half-joking and half-serious, "Su Ye, you have Mr. Yan as your powerful backer, plus you have solid skills of your own."
"Forget about someone from my generation, the ’uncles.’ Even if it were someone from your grandfather’s generation, you could still tell them what to do."
Yu Suye chuckled mischievously. "I wouldn’t dare be so presumptuous. If I actually did that, I’m afraid I’d be exiled from the family."
Despite her words, Yu Suye felt a surge of confidence.
’On my turf, I call the shots.’
This made Yu Suye recall her time at Baining Hospital. She had assumed that, given her consistently outstanding performance, people would be fighting to mentor and guide her.
Instead, what she received was a cold shoulder and one polite rejection after another.
Now, just over half a year later, she had completely turned her situation around. She had improved dramatically in every respect and was now qualified to guide an associate chief physician from her own family clan.
’All of these changes were thanks to the constantly achieving man right beside me.’
At this thought, her gaze toward Yan Feifan grew increasingly tender, as gentle as flowing water...
