Chapter 1705: Cloud Boss and Little Cousin Extra (15)
Since Fan Mingjue had dinner at Yun Hezhi’s house, he was frequently "reproached" by his wife when he got home for going out for a walk only to end up eating and drinking at someone else’s house, reeking of alcohol, and being sent back home. How embarrassing!
Fan Mingjue wasn’t sure how he ended up drinking so much, considering Yun Hezhi and that lad named Zheng Lansheng both needed to protect their voices and weren’t drinkers, yet they took turns filling his glass.
Yun Hezhi: "Uncle, I apologize for not being able to drink with you as much as I’d like. Allow me to toast you with tea instead, feel free to drink how you see fit."
Should he have accepted the drink?
The main thing was, the liquor was indeed excellent, not only did he drink, but he took it down in one gulp, thoroughly drained.
Then Zheng Lansheng turned up with a glass:
"Uncle, what happened today was a misunderstanding, please don’t take it to heart, I toast to you."
Should he drink the apologetic glass?
So after all that back and forth, how could he not get drunk?
Fan’s mother spoke with Fan Zhengyu and suggested that she invite Yun Hezhi over for a meal at their home someday.
**
That day, because of other people’s errands, Fan Zhengyu ended rehearsal early and went directly to the Peach Garden. She knew Yun Hezhi had a performance today and wanted to surprise him and then go out for a date. Knowing he would be particularly tired afterward, she specially bought a box of desserts.
Since it was a surprise, when she got to the Peach Garden, she pretended to look for Zheng Lansheng as a cover and successfully got backstage.
"Little sister-in-law, why are you here? Looking for me?" Zheng Lansheng came out in makeup when he heard it was the Miss Fan.
"No, has he finished the performance?"
"My brother didn’t come today."
"..."
Fan Zhengyu couldn’t have gotten it wrong; they contacted each other at noon.
"Oh, sister-in-law, don’t misunderstand, my brother was supposed to perform today, but he seemed unwell and is resting at home, I’m stepping in for him for this show."
"Unwell?" Fan Zhengyu frowned.
"I also don’t know what’s happening. You know in our profession, catching a cold, fever, or losing your voice is the worst. I was planning to check on him after the performance..."
Before Zheng Lansheng finished, Fan Zhengyu hurriedly left the Peach Garden and went directly to Yun Hezhi’s place.
The door was just closed, not locked, the old door made a muffled creaking noise as it was pushed open.
The garden’s osmanthus trees quietly budded, a white porcelain teapot sat on a stone table in the yard, the tea inside long cooled. Fan Zhengyu instinctively lightened her footsteps and pushed open the door to one of the rooms.
His bedroom faced south with excellent natural light, it wasn’t dark inside.
As the door opened just enough to fit a person, her wrist was suddenly grabbed by someone—
Fan Zhengyu’s heart leapt, she instinctively gasped and tried to dodge, and the grip on her wrist slightly eased, putting some distance between them.
"It’s you." Yun Hezhi was only wearing thin pajamas, his voice somewhat hoarse, clearly unfit for singing opera.
"Are you just having a cold, or...?"
The sunlight from outside fell on Yun Hezhi’s back, half his body cloaked in shadow, giving him a somewhat dreamy mystery.
Strangely enough, there was a hint of a sickly charm about him.
He stared at Fan Zhengyu, speaking in a gentle voice, "Come a little closer..."
Yun Hezhi’s voice was extremely pleasant, and even with an illness, slightly hoarse, it could easily stir one’s nerves. Fan Zhengyu was somehow compelled to move a step forward.
"Come closer still."
Another step closer...
Yun Hezhi chuckled softly, stepping forward himself, the distance between them immediately narrowed to mere millimeters. He bent over, lowering his head slightly, his chin resting against her neck, reaching out to draw her into his embrace.
"I was just thinking of you, and here you are."
The surroundings were very quiet, apart from the gentle sound of wind, only the breathing of them both, one light and shallow, the other hot and heavy due to illness.
Soft and gentle, the heat scattered all around...
Intertwining, entangling, Fan Zhengyu’s breath and heartbeat, gradually becoming a bit chaotic.
She could clearly feel his feverish temperature, her ear and neck were touched by an extraordinary level of heat.
Inching, creeping over her.
"Boss Yun..." Fan Zhengyu tentatively reached out, grasping the fabric at his waist.
Yun Hezhi slightly pulled back, the heat from his neck fading, but facing her, his breath was hot and disordered, this warmth came crashing onto her.
"I just had a dream that we broke up."
"It’s just a dream; sit down on the bed first." Fan Zhengyu, noticing his unusual complexion, helped him sit at the bedside, "How could I break up with you? Besides, we’ve met each other’s parents, and our feelings have just been so strong, that kind of thing won’t happen unless one of us stops loving the other, then a breakup might happen..."
