Chapter 319: Chapter 289: Group 3 is in Trouble
After dinner, the six of them agreed on a night watch rotation and went to bed.
Li Qian’s watch was scheduled for the last shift, from four to six in the morning.
Seeing that he had nothing to do for the time being, Li Qian simply crawled into his tent to rest.
There was no internet access inside the Dimension Plane, so he couldn’t use his VR glasses to read.
Most importantly, one had to conserve their strength and stay sharp inside the Dimension Plane, because a battle could break out at any moment.
The night passed without incident. When his alarm went off before dawn, Li Qian got up on time.
As he stepped out of his tent, he saw Ami Liya by the campfire, staring into space.
Since he was on the last watch and the sky would be light by the time he was done, Li Qian went ahead and packed up his tent.
"What are you thinking about?" Li Qian asked as he walked over to greet Ah Mi.
"Nothing, just random thoughts," Ah Mi answered casually.
Li Qian reminded her, "There’s still time. You can go back and get some more sleep."
"Mm." Ah Mi nodded and got ready to head back to her tent.
Li Qian walked over to the campfire, looked at the small folding stool on the ground, and chuckled.
He wondered which clever rascal had brought it, as it reminded him of riding the old green trains in his past life.
With another chuckle, Li Qian sat down on the small stool without hesitation.
He took a bottle of mineral water, toothpaste, and a toothbrush from his Space Necklace and began to wash up at a leisurely pace.
Since it was nearly dawn anyway, he figured he might as well just start his day.
After washing up, he took out a piece of bread and began to eat it at his leisure.
"You seem pretty relaxed." Senior Brother Du appeared from out of nowhere and teased.
Li Qian smiled at Senior Brother Du and offered him a piece of bread. "You’re up early, Senior Brother Du. Here, have some."
"Not bad," Senior Brother Du said between chews after taking the bread and tearing off a piece. "It’s fine. You get into certain habits after spending years in the Dimension Planes."
Li Qian was curious and asked, "What kind of habits?"
"Sleep more when it’s safe, and stay vigilant when it’s dangerous," Senior Brother Du said.
Li Qian sensed that he was intentionally sharing his experience, and a flicker of gratitude showed in his eyes.
"But logically, since we’re just operating in a novice zone while you guys protect us freshmen, there shouldn’t be any danger, right?" Li Qian added.
"Haha..." Senior Brother Du let out a hearty laugh. "You’re pretty self-aware. And you’re right, this Moon Shadow Forest is, strictly speaking, a novice zone."
"But Dimension Planes aren’t like online games. There’s no shortage of accidents and randomness. A so-called ’novice zone’ is only relatively safe. It doesn’t mean you can let your guard down completely."
Li Qian didn’t fully understand, but he nodded slightly all the same.
And so, the two of them ate breakfast and chatted about matters concerning the Dimension Planes.
Through his conversation with Senior Brother Du, Li Qian found his understanding of the Dimension Planes had deepened.
After about half an hour of conversation, just as Li Qian stood up to gather some firewood, his temporary communicator watch suddenly lit up.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! The watch’s screen flashed red, followed by a piercing alarm.
Seeing this, Senior Brother Du instantly shot over, moving as fast as lightning. His expression changed drastically when he saw the display on the communicator watch on Li Qian’s wrist.
"Group Three is in trouble." After a single glance at Li Qian’s communicator watch, Senior Brother Du spoke in a grave tone.
"Damn it. I have to go help. I’m leaving you in charge here." Senior Brother Du was a man of action, making his decision the moment he saw the distress call on the watch.
"Okay." Li Qian nodded, saying nothing more.
From what the communicator watch had just displayed, the situation seemed grim.
Li Qian was well aware of his own combat strength: better than the average person, but not a top-tier fighter.
’In a situation that would force a senior team leader to send a distress signal, my going there would be of little to no help.’
Another crucial point was that within their group of six freshmen, his combat strength was among the top.
With Senior Brother Du gone, he had to take on the responsibility of protecting the others.
"What’s going on?" Every freshman had a communicator watch, so the others had naturally heard the piercing alarm as well. They rushed out of their tents one by one, with Ding Ganmao being the first to speak.
All eyes fell on Li Qian. It was his watch; he was expected to have more information.
Seeing the confusion on everyone’s faces, Li Qian immediately explained, "Group Three is in danger. They sent a distress signal."
He continued without a pause, "Senior Brother Du has already gone to help."
"What? Something happened to Feifei’s group? No, I have to go help!" Ami Liya’s face filled with anxiety upon hearing Li Qian’s explanation.
"Yao Yan is in Group Three too! Is she in danger...?" Wu Mingming looked equally worried.
Seeing the group getting agitated, each one looking like they wanted to rush over that instant, Li Qian rationally advised, "My recommendation is that we stay here."
"Senior Brother Du has already gone. They’ll be fine..."
Wu Mingming shook his head repeatedly. "But what if they’re not! What if something bad happens!"
’It’s obvious his relationship with this Yao Yan is very close,’ Li Qian thought. ’They might even be a couple.’
Li Qian could understand the feeling, but panicking was useless right now.
"If something bad happens..." Li Qian’s expression was tinged with helplessness as he looked at Wu Mingming. "If something bad does happen, what could we possibly do if we went there?"
Those words were like a basin of ice water dumped over the top of Wu Mingming’s skull, chilling him to the bone.
Li Qian’s words were cruel, but they were the truth. If a situation was dire enough to make a senior team leader call for help, they would be completely useless if they went.
They might even become a burden to the upperclassmen—a liability.
"Then... what should we do?" Wu Mingming asked, stunned by Li Qian’s words, his face a mask of helplessness.
"It’s simple. We wait!" This time, it was Ding Ganmao who spoke.
Clearly, he agreed with Li Qian’s assessment.
"Just waiting around isn’t a solution either. We could sneak over and check out the situation..."
Wang Zonghan offered his opinion, "We can stay on the outskirts and observe. If there’s an opening for us to help, we take it. If not, we fall back!"
